I’ve been training BJJ at SBG Bozeman for just over 6 months now and can confidently say this is the best gym in Bozeman. If you’re looking for somewhere to learn or improve your jiujitsu in Bozeman this is the place to do it. The community is great and the coaches all have their own unique abilities to offer. Coach Ricky is the most technically knowledgeable coach I’ve trained under. Basically any question you could have about a technique he already has a master plan to do it perfectly and can explain it really well. His focus on fundamentals makes classes easy for beginners but allows more experienced people to find new methods or tighten up technique. Coach Aaron’s knowledge and experience with wrestling brings another important facet of jiujitsu to classes. His understanding of dynamic movement and top pressure has helped me improve my own wrestling more in the past 6 months than in the previous year or so of training. Now I don’t get scared when former high school wrestlers look at me at open mats. The community here is super welcoming and friendly, every time you walk in someone is there to greet you. I’ve met a ton of great people here. It has been a great experience and I’d highly recommend anyone who’s thinking about trying jiujitsu to give it a try at SBG Bozeman.

SBG has been a great place for our daughter to learn bjj while making friends, but the best part is how the SBG coaching team takes the time and effort to incorporate real life skills for these young kids. Coach Jess and Coach Crosby lead by example and the kids respond well to that. Quality instruction is never going to be cheap, especially for kiddos, but in this case you get much more than what you pay for. We couldn't be happier with the decision to join SBG!

Dropped in yesterday. The gym is very nice and clean. Professor Rick taught mount escapes and was very systematic and easy to understand. He taught a lot of really effective details, most of which I had never seen. He then had us positional spar to drill the moves, and they worked well against a resisting partner. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. If I lived in Bozeman, I would train there full time. Highly recommend it.

Great atmosphere, very clean, lots of room on mats. Plan on doing some droppins with these guys talk to Aaron, we're going to do an evaluation. Really professional great to work with

Dropped in for a class while working in Bozeman and still be coming back. While some areas of the facility are under construction, it is going to be, by far, the nicest BJJ gym I have ever been in. Solid instruction all the way down to their blue belts. Definitely worth going!

I was passing through Bozeman and managed to join a foundations class last minute. It was a great experience! The facility was beautiful, even with ongoing renovations. I dropped in for a class while passing through Bozeman. I had a great experience under Coach Gus's instruction. He covered fundamentals simply and expanded on details as class progressed and students asked questions. It was nice seeing some new variations to techniques I was already familiar with. The room seemed really intentional with their drilling, was welcoming, safely pushed during rounds, and everyone seemed to have good technique. They seem to have established a good culture here. The facility, itself, is also really nice and undergoing some renovations. Overall, great experience. Will definitely train here again next time I'm in Bozeman.
Dropped in twice during a trip to Bozeman. Instructors were technical and friendly, as were the students. The space is HUGE compared to the gym I go to in San Francisco. Great to get a little training outside of my school's most common curriculum, and great to get some reps in. Thanks!
I am a two stripe white belt, I was in town for business and dropped in. Very welcoming team. Feels like a family. BJJ can be intimidating for the new comers…not here. New, large, very clean facility. Coaching was on point with specific emphasis on fundamentals. Great vibe. 100% recommend

I train BJJ in Phoenix and was on holiday here in Bozeman for the week. I wanted to keep the workout going so decided to stop by and give SBG Bozeman a try. All I can say is it’s nothing but perfection! The guys and gals working there were very polite and very excited to have me there. The coaching was amazing and I could just tell everyone there has a deep passion for the sport. 10/10 experience and I would 100% recommend for anyone who wants to start doing BJJ. Thanks again guys!
Big fan of this place. I dropped in for a Saturday afternoon class while visiting from out of town. Their facilities and mat space are some of the nicest I’ve ever trained in. Seems like a good spread of belts. I’m hoping to move back to Bozeman in a couple years and am really looking forward to training here.
Very large facility (compared to my home gym), great coaches, great atmosphere and vibe, very welcoming to me as a new transplant, 10/10 instruction. overall amazing gym!
I was passing through town and dropped in for the fundamentals class and the advanced class. The first thing I noticed is that this is the NICEST jiu jitsu facility I've seen. Very spacious, top quality mats, good tunes. And even though I've been training for several years, the coach Gus who taught the newbie white belts emphasized some details on some basic sweeps that I hadn't really thought about before. Excellent experience overall

My first time visiting from MN and was able to drop in for a couple of classes. Coach Jess was fantastic in her instruction and overall technique explanation. Very encouraging environment and would recommend SBG Bozeman to anyone looking for high caliber BJJ instruction!

Absolute great gym! My girlfriend and I came from out of town and wanted a place to train for the weekend. The coaches at SBG really made us feel at home and were extremely good at explaining the technique. Definitely a place I would recommend and also come back to. I’ve been training BJJ for about 7 years and dropped in for a few classes at SBG. SBG Bozeman is def one of the BEST and nicest gyms I’ve ever trained, coaches are extremely knowledgeable and the whole squad is super friendly and welcoming. I am very looking forward to come back to Bozeman again and train with them… Can’t recommend them enough!

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to train in Bozeman while on vacation. We happened across SBG and Cheryl called us to discuss classes. When walking in aaron greeted us with open arms. Giving us a tour of their new, incredibly large jiujitsu gym. Our fundamentals coach, jess was very technical and so kind to lend us some of her own gis! Ricky our cap instructor and owner helped fine tune those little details that matter to finish! To top it off, all the members were beyond welcoming! Coming from hawaii this is what we call ohana. We will be back on our next journey out to Montana!

This is a GREAT PLACE TO LEARN JIU JITSU!!! I'm a Black Belt BJJ and scene a lot of BJJ Dojos. This place makes my top 5 of my favorite places to train. Ricky, Aaron, and Gus are great instructors. The SBG system is excellent and they made me feel at home. I highly recommend this dojo.
SBG Bozeman offers up a very welcoming environment with fantastic coaching and instruction. I dropped in from out of town during a bachelor party weekend to get some mat time and a great experience. I will definitely be back the next time I’m in town?
While visiting town I stopped in and asked to participate in a couple classes in order to get a feel for the gym. I was greeted with a friendly but professional welcome, and after participating in a couple classes I was highly impressed by coach Ricky’s knowledge base and more significantly his ability to convey his knowledge in a digestible manner. It is also my impression that coach Ricky strives to create a positive, safe and growth oriented culture among his students. For these reasons I would highly recommend SBG Bozeman, especially to someone who is new to Jiu Jitsu as I believe it offers a solid community in which to start one’s journey.
My wife my daughter and I dropped in to check it out while we were looking at msu. Jiu jitsu is very important to her and good gym is a must. They welcomed us with open arms. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and the class was great. We would definitely recommend.
Super clean facility with great coaches and a family friendly atmosphere. There's always a smiling face to greet you, whether it's the awesome humans that run the facility or those coming to/leaving from class. We can’t say enough amazing things about SBG Bozeman! Coach Ricky and CeCe have taught our kids just as much (or more) in life skills as martial art skills. My kiddos love coming to class! My husband and I also started class a year ago- such a great group of people!

What started out as 1 SBG gym in Kalispell MT now has blossomed into 5 (Kalispell/whitefish/bigfork/missoula/bozeman) fantastic locations, with each gym being lead by a wonderful home grown SBG Montana coach. We love that its always community first and the atmosphere is warm, welcoming and exactly where you want your family to train. THE BEST PART is that SBG Bozeman's head coach, Ricky Davison, was a part of the very 1st class in the SBG Growing Gorilla's Kids Program in Kalispell. This program helped develop him into the leader that he is today and now SBG Bozeman and Coach Ricky will teach and grow the next generation of MT kids!

Scammers, will keep charging even if you cancel verbally.
We stopped coming to class 5 months ago. They kept charging us. When we pointed out we hadn’t been in class they wouldn’t give us a refund and said we hadn’t cancelled our membership even though my wife had talked to someone and told them we wouldn’t be able to attend class any more. Now we’re out almost $800 for a class our daughter hadn’t attended in months. Be careful when dealing with them. Their communication is terrible, and they don’t care to get in touch with you as long as your money keeps coming in. Unethical business. Would rate them less if I could.
