  We absolutely love Coaches McKenna and Nico. My 4-year-old and 6-year-old are both in their jiu-jitsu program, and I can’t say enough good things about them. They are both incredibly skilled athletes, and what really sets them apart is how amazing they are with kids. They strike the perfect balance of discipline, encouragement, and fun. My kids feel confident, supported, and excited to attend every class. McKenna and Nico are patient, attentive, and excellent at breaking down techniques in a way young kids can understand — while still building focus, respect, and resilience. You can tell they genuinely care about the kids and their growth, both on and off the mats. If you’re looking for coaches who are highly skilled, professional, and exceptional with children, you couldn’t ask for better than McKenna and Nico. We feel so lucky to have them as our kids’ coaches.

  If you’re serious about leveling up your jiu-jitsu game, book a private. The coaching is precise and honest, the pace is efficient, and the rounds and drills are intentionally structured to identify and fix weaknesses fast. My game has improved dramatically after private sessions with Coach Nico. I’ve trained with multiple black belts over the years, and Nico is one of the best I’ve ever worked with. You’ll see real improvement after just a few private sessions with him.

  I am deeply grateful to the SCJJ coaches for providing my daughters with exceptional martial arts training, invaluable individual mentorship, and a village of the most supportive parents and peers. Only 10 and 7 years old, my girls thrive as practitioners of the sport (the youngest even travels nationally for competition), but more importantly, they each have developed a sense of belonging, integrity, grit, and self confidence as a direct result of Nico and McKenna's coaching philosophies, programmatic framework, and gym culture. Cannot recommend this program enough!

  I can't recommend SC JiuJitsu enough! Coaches Nico and McKenna are absolutely incredible with the kids. They focus on teaching not only safety and respect but also proper body mechanics and technique. Their dedication and expertise make a real difference, and it's clear the kids adore them—and so do the parents. If you're considering it, sign your child up! You won’t regret it.

  We love Santa Cruz Jiu Jitsu! My 2 sons have been practicing with Coach Nico and Coach McKenna since they were in 3rd and 5th grade. They are now in 5th and 7th and still love it and are still growing. They have made incredible progress and love being a part of the Santa Cruz Jiu Jitsu community. They get very personalized instruction and learn to work with kids of all ages and skill levels. The coaches are kind, hold good structure and prepare the kids well for competitions for those who want to (no pressure). We can’t recommend Santa Cruz Jiu Jitsu enough!
