I've been taking samba classes at Rise since fall 2023. They are exceptional! Joshlean is brilliantly talented and creative in her ability to lead classes that engage, inspire and educate people of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds. Class is always fun, a great workout and something to look forward to every week. Furthermore, Rise is a genuinely welcoming, affirming, community-focused family environment for me and my daughter.

I have been a student here for over a year now. Words cannot describe how wonderful the Rise Training Academy is. My experience has been amazing this far. The owners (DeBoa and Contra Mestre Tinta Forte) have created a beautiful and positive environment. Contra Mestre Tinta, instructor Embuia and Instructor Com Dende teach informative and excellent classes. They are approachable, kind, dedicated knowledgeable and patient teachers. They often will stay past the time of class to teach more and to answer any questions that you may have. They offer a holistic approach to learning capoeira by incorporating other aspects such as playing instruments, singing songs in Portuguese, and learning the history of Capoeira. Along with classes, I really enjoy attending their events. The other students are very kind and encouraging. I highly recommend trying out Rise Training Academy.

I am incredibly grateful to Rise Training Academy. Professor Tinta is an exceptionally teacher - knowledgeable, supportive, patient with questions, and knows how to push you hard enough so you are challenging yourself, but not so hard you feel discouraged. When I started classes I didn’t have any background in martial arts of any kind but I’d always had an interest in Capoeira - the fluidity, music, and history. I was uncertain of attempting to learn new movement skills through video lessons, but amazingly, Professor was inspiring over zoom! And during the long winter of Covid, weekly training was a much needed bright spot of positivity. I find Capoeira beautiful to watch, but intimidating, and as a beginner I was skeptical I could succeed. But Professor Tinta was always able to highlight where I was improving and I had no option but to believe in my potential, too. I also truly enjoyed how he balanced a mixture of skills, strategy, and history in class, so it didn’t feel like a random gym workout, or only fighting technique, but an immersion into the whys of Capoeira and how all of its parts tie together. If you are looking for a place to study I cannot recommend Rise Training Academy highly enough.

I am challenged and pleased with my training. My daughter and I have fun together. She is 5 so Prof.Tinta allowed me to train with her. Its family bonding, its discipline and hard work. I have started training consistently since November and my kicks and coordination feels more comfortable. Here is the thing.. we are training in Texas !!!!!So our training happens with virtually(with Zoom) twice a week and we are still learning skills and "playing" with other students in training. Its a fufilling experience not only because Prof. Tinta is understanding and knowledgeable; its affordable. I suggest more children learn especially girls that enjoy flipping and backbends. He is consistent and even when I got sick for two weeks he shared videos with me for inspiration. Join in.
