I’ve been training here for years! Prof. Ante is amazing—patient, supportive, and never pressures students. Great mix of training partners, so you get to roll with people of all sizes and skill levels!
When I first started at Rio Pro, I was excited to try something new and out of my comfort zone. I thought I may test out what a few classes looked like, never with the intention of continuing Jiu Jitsu long term. It was not until I experienced the fullness of the community at Rio Pro that I found a place I couldn't imagine walking away from. Under the instruction of Professor Ante, I was given the confidence to train without expectations, and learn without judgement. He is intentional to make each student feel as they belong, encourage them at the level they are, and support them in their own athletic ambitions. The safe and welcoming leadership and team at Rio Pro allows their students to be themselves, and to bring their own authentic self to the mat. I am proud to train at Rio Pro under Professor Ante, and hope that if you are reading this in consideration of joining the team, that you take the chance!
Rio Pro is a very welcoming atmosphere. To me it is like a second family. I look forward to training everyday and could not imagine a better instructor, person, and mentor than Professor Ante. I came in with no prior knowledge and after two years I’ve grown a love for BJJ.
I absolutely love Rio Pro BJJ. Professor Ante is awesome great teacher and easy to approach. Everything is earned and his instruction and teaching is top level. Everyone on the matt is friendly and have all types of people who want to train from competitors who travel and compete at IBJJF to people just looking to find a new hobby. Great environment for all people and all levels. Also kids program is awesome with friendly and great instructors!!!
Looking for a great place to train BJJ? This is it. Ante is a great instructor and does an excellent job of making the instruction fun, understandable, safe, and applicable to both sport and defense. An outstanding place to learn jiu jitsu.
If you’re looking for a jiu jitsu school where the instructor cares about you and emphasizes that his students care about each other than go to RioPro Beachwood. Professor Ante sets the tone with knowledgeable instruction in a welcoming atmosphere. In my two years, I’ve learned a tremendous amount and made great friends. Finally no review would be complete without acknowledging Professor Ante’s jokes. They are 6 out of 5 stars! Come train!
Joining this gym has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Ante is an incredible instructor who is knowledgeable, patient and passionate about helping everyone improve. The atmosphere is very welcoming whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner. Ante takes the time to make sure everyone feels both comfortable and challenged, tailoring techniques to all levels. Highly recommend this gym to anyone interested in jiu-jitsu!
Having trained at Rio Pro in Beachwood, OH, I can only echo all the positive sentiment of other reviews. Professor Ante is truly one of one in his knowledge, approachable teaching style, and compassion. A gyms culture is only as strong as those who set it, and Ante has a masterful job establishing a gym that has the level of still and competiveness needed to learn and improve, with absolutely no compromises on safety. Everyone cares about everyone who trains and going is truly a bright spot in my day.
I feel like I was destined to train here. I've been training under Professor Ante at Rio Pro for 4 years now, and I couldn't imagine training anywhere else. I've heard stories about other gym cultures being toxic and unfriendly; however, my first day on the mats at Rio Pro felt like I had been training here forever. Everyone talked to me, introduced themselves, and pitched in answering any dumb questions I posed. Professor Ante genuinely cares about the art, but even more so cares about his students. He takes the time to cater to each individual student during drills. Any questions that may arise during this period he answers; but, he also reiterates with the entire class group to ensure we all have a grasp on the concept. I greatly appreciate this space, and look forward to training here every day the building is open!!
The instructor is knowledgeable and caring. Prof. Ante always places safety first. The community is extremely supportive. I feel very safe to train with everyone at this school.
Rio Pro is a great place to learn and train! The atmosphere is great and safe! Professor Ante is amazing! He is very detailed in his instruction and he genuinely cares about all of his students.
Awesome place, lots of fun! Schedule and location is great, teaching is top notch.
Rio Pro is an excellent school if you’re interested in learning this fine art. It’s refreshing to see folks of all ages train and get better everyday. The most impressive aspect of the school is the culture. Everyone is kind, compassionate and readily available to help. This is leadership at its best! This is all due to Professor Ante. Come train!!
I’ve been training at Rio Pro Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for nine years, and it’s been an amazing experience. Professor Ante is one of the greatest coaches and mentors I could ask for. The school has a wonderful, family-oriented atmosphere that makes everyone feel welcome and supported.
As I reflect on my two year anniversary at Rio Pro this week, I am excited to see what else I can accomplish under the guidance of Professor Ante. He has created a fun environment to learn and grow in during this journey. He leads from the front! Always there to listen and help you understand any technique so you can adequately defend yourself in competition or in the world if necessary. The balance of technical ability and conceptual knowledge that he possesses is a ode to his work ethic as a practitioner and instructor in jiu-jitsu. If you are thinking about trying jiu-jitsu, as Professor Ante says, come train!
Whether you are looking to become a high level competitor, learn more about self defense, or you’re just looking for a hobby to be more physically active, there is a place for everybody here at RioPro. Professor Ante is someone who genuinely loves the art of BJJ, and inspires everyone around him to love it just as much. His unyielding positivity and warm demeanor is contagious, and has fostered an incredible community of practitioners. It’s easy to see that Ante truly loves what he does, because he is an amazing teacher, and treats students of all levels like family. Whether it’s your first class, or you have been training with him for years, Ante does a spectacular job at making you feel welcome and part of the crew. I cannot recommend this place enough.
The teachers create a great environment for learning and the students create a great community.
I started at Rio Pro in Professor Ante’s class a few months ago and have had the best time! As someone with 0 background in any kind of martial arts, I wasn’t sure at first if I would get into it as much as I have. Having a leader like Professor Ante, who really loves teaching and is able to demonstrate/explain each part of the lesson plan in a detailed and understandable manner, is a big part of why I got into jiu jitsu. He cares about each of his students and is always very encouraging and sets every one of us up for success. I think this “tone at the top” also trickles down into the student body as everyone was so welcoming when I first started and also wanted to see me succeed. Various students with more experience than me have always offered to help me learn or walk me through a drill etc. and didn’t mind re-explaining things or that I was so new to it. I can tell everyone really cares about everyone here and that there is a strong sense of community.
Been training here for about 8 months. Great community and gym culture, the people here really take care of each other. Ante is a fantastic teacher and an even better person.
I trained at the Beachwood location for roughly a year. Not only the instructors, but all of the people there were unbelieveable! It is such a naturally welcoming atmosphere and something you genuinely look forward to going to. It feels effortless to make friends at this school and everyone just seems to care! I had a health condition come up that resulted in me not being able to train, and Ante was not only understanding but checked in on me! A real stand up guy with a real stand up school with real genuine people. This school is as good as it gets people!
I started at rio pro a few months ago with my best friend at the Beachwood location and we absolutely loved it! Ante is the professor that instructs the classes. He is a wealth of knowledge and truly knows what he is doing to best teach you as an individual even when it is in a group setting. The atmosphere is fun, positive, and encouraging that promotes growth and learning! I could not say one negative thing about rio pro and love it tremendously!
Dropped in tonight while in town on a business trip. Ante, and everyone else, was extremely welcoming and class was run very well, especially considering the large class size and limited mat space. Will be back next time I’m in town!
We’ve been sending our son here for about one yr. Each instructor is better than the next. They’re patient and take the time to explain things to the kids. They let the kids ask questions and actually listen to them. The classes have helped with my sons confidence and he looks forward to every class. I would highly recommend.
I dropped in for a Thursday night class while in town for work. You couldn't ask for a more welcoming atmosphere. Great class, fun rolls, amazing people. 10/10 would train here again.
My first day was fantastic and I'm looking forward to many more.
These people were awesome and super welcoming. My only problem is I need more time in my life. If I could I would go here everyday for hours. My interest in Juijuitsu spiked after going here. I can't wait to come back there and train again!

Kindest, most professional, wonderful teachers .. even with small children. Highly recommend. Thank you for all that you do. :-)
Awesome place full of awesome people. Very welcoming, friendly and solid dudes.
Great place to train for any age and any skill level. Top notch instruction in a friendly, safe, training environment. I hadn't trained for a few years and I'm very happy that I chose this school for my return to the mats.
Could not be happier with instructors, staff, and lessons. Originally signed up my then 7 year old to try a Saturday class. He has never done any combative style sports so I didn’t know what to expect. He IMMEDIATELY was made to feel like a valuable member of the team and he had a blast. He loves it. He’s 8 and we just signed his 6 year old brother up. They love it. It is challenging and fun. Alex, Casey, and Barrett truely care about their students and it shows. Apologize for missing a couple instructors! Now for the adults….fantastic place to train. I have never trained jujitsu before but have wrestled for years and have a 1st degree in taekwondo. Professor Ante is wonderful. Caring, knowledgeable, and I love his jokes. He presents the skills in a way to make them click. He’s always encouraging and you look forward to improving each and every session. You can train hard here. But I’m older and banged up. Last place I needed in my current condition is a meat grinder of a gym. This is not a bunch of alphas destroying the new guy. Just the opposite. These alphas want to share and teach. And want you to be part of the family for the long haul. For years. For decades. Because that is what Rio Pro is….. FAMILY.
This review is long overdue. I trained at Rio Pro for the past two years, until recently, when I moved out of state. I was relatively new to jiu jitsu when I signed up. From day one, everyone at the gym made me feel welcome. The staff have cultivated a friendly and supportive atmosphere which has permeated to the membership. Whether your goal is to lose weight, learn a new skill or win medals, the staff and membership want to see you succeed. It is a great place for all skill levels. I highly recommend Rio Pro if you are looking to start your jiu jitsu journey.
Best BJJ school in Cleveland... hands down!!! Professor Ante is down to earth and so knowledgeable. If you want to learn Jiu Jitsu in a collegial atmosphere this is the place.
I have trained at several other excellent schools before relocating to Cleveland and am a blue belt under Prof. Pedro Sauer. Rio Pro is the friendliest training environment I have experienced. The atmosphere is competitive, but everyone is concerned about the safety of their training partners. Prof. Ante has a unique ability to break down techniques and to help students make their game work for them.
Great place to train, family atmosphere, and top notch instruction
Excellent atmosphere, friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the art. Conveniently located. Great people for a great workout. Cannot recommend this place enough.
Great place to learn and train Brazilian jiu jitsu. Quality instructors promote a very welcoming and encouraging atmosphere. The curriculum largely covers sport BBJ, but also provides opportunity to adapt and perfect the techniques for other circumstances such self-defense or in the no-Gi class.
My daughters have been here four years. Their growth has been incredible. knowledge and friendly teachers. Could not ask for a better place to learn Jiu Jitsu. They are amazing with kids keeping them involved and having fun all while learning to protect themselves
I've been training here for over two months. Great atmosphere to train in. People from all walks of life with a common goal. Instructor Ante is a down to earth guy who treats you like family. The staff is super friendly and the students are easy going. You don't get looked down upon because you are a lower belt. My only regret is not starting my training sooner.
Just dropped in at Rio Pro in Beachwood. I had a wonderful time, everyone was extremely welcoming, very safe, and very tough. If you live in the area and are thinking about training BJJ I highly recommend this academy. Thanks very much to everyone I got to train with, and thanks Professor Ante for letting me borrow a gi and for your hospitality.
I've been a student at Rio pro for about a year and my son has been a student for two years and my daughter for going on eight months. The instructors are very thorough and knowledgeable of This art. Jiu jitsu is about more then promotions and rank it's a art a lifestyle and it helped changed my life and I thank RIOPRO BJJ for that!
Awesome place! Instructor is very good teaching and friendly! If you want the jiu jit-su. Yoy need to go here!
Great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Martial Art School. Awesome Instruction. Premier Facilities. Good Vibe!!
All and all nice and great... Training it epic ... If u want a martial arts Sports and technique, I highly recommend jujitsu
I posted a review a few months ago and it never went public. So I am trying again. My son had a traumatic experience at Rio Pro, where the childrens' instructor Alex banned our son after the second class because of his "attitude" and that he didn't get a tissue right away when Alex asked him to when he saw our son's nose was running. Our son's attitude wasn't great during the first class. He was much better the second class but he was "louder" than the other kids and didn't get the tissue right away. When my husband asked Alex if he would reconsider banning our son for 6 months, Alex yelled and threatened my husband and pointed his finger at him. Our son cried when he heard he was kicked out of the class and said if he knew that would be the result, he would have gotten the tissue right away. To be fair, the other 2 instructors in the class were much nicer. We found a new Jiu Jitsu home for our son at another studio. I am sure this is a good place to learn if you are compliant from the get go, but it wasn't a good fit for our son.
The instructors that are actually at the school are great! The owner is a guy name Ze and he lives in Brazil. I met him one time and he told me to keep with jiu jitsu and to keep paying that monthly bill so he can keep partying in Brazil. He also told me thanks for the BMW. Jiu jitsu is about honor, respect and loyalty...... Everything Ze does not display. Ways to improve..... Show up and teach some classes or provide more classes.
I signed up for a 13-month membership and enjoyed the classes. Unfortunately, due to my pregnancy, I had to stop attending. I sent a certified letter as instructed to inform them of my intention to drop out, expecting a refund for the remaining months. To my surprise, I was informed that memberships are non-refundable, something that was never mentioned when I signed up. It turns out it's buried in the fine print of the contract. While they aren't technically wrong, it's incredibly frustrating and feels like a sneaky way to trap customers. They did credit my account for the remaining time, but I won't be able to use it. Their handling of the situation left a lot to be desired, and I feel misled. I hope they reconsider how they communicate their policies to future customers. I don't know how to reply to the response from the owner so I will add it here: I appreciate the clarification regarding your policy and understand that it has been consistent for many years. However, I still feel that the details about non-refundability were not made as clear as they could have been at the time of enrollment. While I understand that the contract is reviewed and initialed, the emphasis on such a critical aspect might benefit from being more explicitly communicated, especially for first-time members like myself. I recognize that your policy offers a time credit for unused months, which is a fair approach under normal circumstances. However, pregnancy is a unique situation, and it would be helpful if there were more flexibility in cases like this. Thank you again for your understanding, and I hope my feedback can contribute to improving the experience for future members.
