I started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 50 because I work in the psychiatric area of healthcare. The staff are often subjected to violent patient interaction. I wanted to feel safe and be able to protect myself, co-workers, and patients from assaults. I never imagined that I would still be taking twice-a-week private lessons with Professor Rai nearly 3 years and over one hundred and twenty lessons later. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has a seemingly infinite variety of take-downs, grappling moves, and submissions. The strategies change considerably depending on your attacker’s/opponent’s knowledge, size, and strength. Everything builds and connects with earlier lessons. My speed, stamina, and endurance have increased by 50%, which I measure using a timed warm-up. I have also noticed considerable improvement in my balance, agility, reflexes, and overall energy. I have dropped two dress sizes while making no other lifestyle changes besides training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I feel the most fit I have felt since my late twenties. BJJ remains interesting and challenging. Professor Rai is a fantastic teacher. He tailored a self-defense strategy to my needs, addressing the high-risk and dangerous situations I face at work. He is always professional and prepared. Focusing on the best techniques for success, he elicits your natural strengths and edits your greatest weaknesses. Professor Rai is especially talented in knowing how far to push you for peak performance, and when and where to stop. Rilion Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy members are friendly and welcoming. There is an authentic community feeling, bolstered by competitions, barbeques, get-togethers, and activities. Many classes, open mats, semi-private, and private lessons are offered. The time and money spent learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an investment in myself and my future quality of life. This middle-aged broad plans to keep rolling with no end in sight.
Posted 9 months agoI have to say this school is truly an amazing school from the instructor who is always there for every class and who truly cares for his students. It’s great to have an instructor who watches you drill/roll while helping you correct your technique or how to get out from a tough spot. This instructor really wants to see you improve but also have fun with it. The other great thing is the environment this school has every team member has welcomed me with open arms and has shown that they want you to be part of the team. This is great, especially for people who are new because they are able to be more relaxed, enjoy their first experience and having them wanting to come back. If you are in the area, at least give the school a try I promise you will not be disappointed.
Posted 8 months agoI have been training at Rilion Gracie for a few months and can not say enough good things about this gym. Coach Rai is an incredible instructor, he explains all of the techniques thoroughly and breaks everything down so well that even more complex concepts are easy to learn. He also really cares about all of the people he trains, he checks in with you regularly not just about jujitsu but about how thing in your life are going. The culture of the gym is amazing, everyone is willing to help and eager to learn. Every time you step on the mats you immediately feel welcomed and part of a team. If you want to learn jujitsu and all around improve your life on and off the mat this gym is the perfect place.

The atmosphere is welcoming, whether you're experienced or just beginning. The facility is clean, and the training is top-notch. Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in a supportive and disciplined environment!

The professor is extremely professional, personable, and knowledgeable—his attention to detail and ability to break down techniques make learning Jiu-Jitsu both effective and enjoyable. He’s also very empathetic, creating a welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of experience level. The facility is spotless, with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, which is a huge plus. There’s a great selection of classes, both morning and night, making it easy to find a time that fits my schedule. The members are friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help new people get comfortable on the mats. If you’re looking for high-level instruction in a great atmosphere, this is the place to train!
