The best Jiu-jitsu academy in the Bay Area period! All the coaches have a great attention to detail, and make it fun/ welcoming. Super high quality training partners, who really make it feel like family. Ralph would regularly be in the gym and is an awesome dude who is always watching and giving little tips on how to improve our move.

Came in for my first class but accidentally signed up for a more advanced one. Despite this Tay, one of the coaches, took time aside from the main lesson to help me out and show me some basics. He also invited me to another introductory lesson free of charge to get the full experience. It showed a lot about the gym and Tay himself to be willing to help despite my mistake of signing up for a non introductory class.
BJJ is like the strongest drug, you try it one time and your hooked. But it does also help that the instructors are great - they will make you challenge yourself physically and mentally while being supportive of you the way that you are. Ralph is a legend, but a great guy and very humble. He builds a personal relationship with every one of his students - though he has hundreds of thousands at this point. But one of my favorite selling points is the community - this is a bunch of people that all want to learn and improve, no one has anything to prove, and everyone is always willing to help anyway they can - on the mat or in the real world. This community sucks you in and you become everyone's friend - I heard of people getting jobs though the contacts they make here, people helping each other's businesses and work, and everyone hangs out together. There is just something fun about trying to submit someone on the mat, discussing how to improve, and then getting a beer to hang out. So come to Ralphs for the BJJ fun but stay for the instructors and community.
Awesome vibes at the Jiu-Jitsu gym! The trainers are absolute pros, mixing serious skills with loads of encouragement. Each session is a sweaty blast, focusing on top-notch technique and safety. Totally recommend for anyone looking to level up their fitness game in a fun, supportive crew!
My brother and I are black belts and we wanted to drop-in in this iconic place of jiu-jitsu in San francisco I don't have enough words to describe the experience, how nice were the guys at the academy, Summer, Kurt , Elia and the whole BJJ crew The classes are highly technical, plenty of BJJ black belts on the mat, I would recommend anyone white belt or black belt to go here We made friends there who will accompany us to the ADCC, BJJ camaraderie is the best Thanks again

Great gym with good people. Very welcoming to new students and spreading the art form. I personally take the no-gi class and get into experienced rolls as a novice practitioner. I took their gi fundamentals class and had a blast in there as well. The Gracie family will have you in good hands. 👍

My daughter Alessandra loves Jiu Jitsu classes at Ralph Gracie. She loves personal training with instructors because she rough houses in a way that she could have if her father was still alive. She has learned so much here and we look forward to continuing her training!

I’ve trained at a bunch of other places in the city, but this place is the best place to learn technique and detail. Just one beginner class and I knew they were operating on a different lvl in the best way. If your starting out, this is a good place to get the fundamentals and strong foundation.
I never expected to love jiu jitsu as much as I do, but the academy has become like a second home. I’m a pretty small woman and was expecting the sport to be intimidating, but everyone at the gym —from the staff to the students— is incredibly warm and welcoming. Ralph is a legend. Not only does the academy produce high level fighters, but he has created an environment where the team really feels like family. There is a women’s class in the evenings which is a great way to dip your toe in if you’re a female wanting to get started in the sport. My favorite class is 7am (M-F) taught by Tay - it’s such a good workout, amazing technique, and the best way to get your day started. I highly recommend RGSF if you’re curious about trying BJJ or if you’re visiting SF. It’s never not a good time!
Amazing coaches and teammates. The community here makes you feel welcomed and motivated. The mat and equipments are cleaned and maintained at a frequent basis. One small thing - I hope there could be more toilets available in the men’s bathroom.

I have been training at RG BJJ for a little over four months, and can no longer imagine life without training here. The classes are engaging (and cater to a wide variety of skill levels), the professors are fantastic, and the community at the gym is something special. Located two blocks from the Civic center Bart station, on Howard Street. This is the headquarters for Ralph Gracie and his cousin Rhalan Gracie, whose family started Jiu Jitsu in Brazil. Competitive training for both Gi and no Gi training. They also provide excellent striking classes, for those interested in pursuing mixed martial arts (MMA training).
This place is awesome. Strong team and students. Everyone is respectful, all the teachers are super experienced and helpful. Kind environment. Could not pick a better place to train!
I’ve been training here for a little over a year and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I love the instructors and students here. You will quickly find out that this place checks a lot of boxes for you. You will develop a new skill, get a great workout, build an awesome community, and grow as a person in many other ways. Ralph himself is a legend in jiu jitsu and it’s an honor to learn from him and his predecessors. He’s very involved in the school - comes to many of the classes to help instruct and he’s at every event. As a woman, I feel very safe here and there are a lot of other women who train here who have become my good friends. The guys who train here are great too - I’ve never once felt uncomfortable and have made many guy friends as well. The upper belts are always willing to teach the newer belts from the first day forward. Even during my first two weeks, I felt like I belong here. You won’t be disappointed.

I was visiting San Francisco for a vacation purposes and to visit a BJJ gym during my visit. I chose Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu gym...I could have not make a better decision. I have not ever been welcomed as a gym visitor such manner than Rhalan Gracie did.. in addition this place has only kind hearted bjj practitioners and fun to roll with. Highly recommend everyone to choose this gym while in San Francisco 👌
Was in town and dropped in for a Saturday NoGi class. Learned a couple of excellent techniques I’ll be taking home with me and the place is full of purple, brown and black belts so I got some very productive rolls in. Highly recommend this place and will come back next time I’m in San Francisco 🤙

TL;DR: Great gym for gi and no-gi. Mats are great, there are showers, environment is inviting, instructors are top notch. Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu San Francisco is a great gym. The mat space is very large. There are showers for bathing after training sessions! I travel sometimes and make time to visit gyms when I do, but I’m happy to call this place my home gym. First, the skill level of BJJ players there is great. There isn’t much dogma, or constraints to learning, people love the sport and art and authentically strive to be better. It doesn’t feel “competitive”, but rather, gym members are... motivated. They care about their art and strive to improve themselves. It isn’t much of a place of egos, but rather, one of dedication, humility and hard work. Second, the people are great. There is a wide range of skill levels. There are often visitors from other gyms and they are very welcome to train. The atmosphere is one of camaraderie, sharing and learning. It’s a very positive attitude and experience. Gym members are cordial, welcoming and friendly. Great people at all skill levels, beginner to advanced. Finally, the instructors are top notch. It is such an honor and privilege to have as instructors such as Mike Murrell, Tay Crivello and Rhalan Gracie. The instructors know their craft very deeply. There are classes for all skill levels. The instructors will zoom in with the appropriate level of detail for individuals while drilling. The instruction is consistent and follow a theme that can go for weeks (or months). It’s the kind of instruction that makes people really understand both the fundamentals and the advanced cases. The instructors pay attention to the students and help them achieve their goals. Whether it is competing or just improving their game. Highly recommended!

I love coming to Jerry and Rhalan's classes - they're hard and also make me want to learn more and more. The culture is supportive and welcoming and doesn't take itself too seriously, but also a good amount of order and structure and respect. The instructors and fellow students are great at pushing me to learn new things and realize my limits were in my head. Recently the curriculum has gotten even better with the focus on street applications and takedowns.

In town for a short period of time and dropped in to this school. Amazing people, a huge number on the mat and at least three black belt instructors present including Professor Kurt Osiander, who I had seen on many YouTube videos and who I always wanted the chance to meet. The warm ups were grueling and the instruction was spot on. The instructors paid attention to the students rather than just showing he move and then ignoring, and it felt very much like personalized instruction. Highly recommended for the fun, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Oss!
