I’ve always been interested in martial arts but hesitant about the physical confrontation involved. If you share that feeling, I’ve found a great place that might change your mind. The atmosphere here is built on two principles: love and love ( :) okay love and understanding). The community is incredibly welcoming and supportive, nothing like the testosterone-fueled environments you might expect ( or at least I was afraid of like many gyms). Instead, it’s all about learning and sharing the art of Jiu-jitsu in a friendly setting. The scheduling is flexible, and the pricing is reasonable with a four-month contract. They also sell all the necessary gear, like Gis or kimonos. If you’re unsure, they offer a trial session for free to help you decide if it’s the right fit for you. Regarding the facilities, they’re straightforward with basic gym equipment for weightlifting, along with separate changing rooms for men and women. The men’s showers are open, which might take some getting used to ( I personally like to have my own space kinda thing so it’s fine since there’s not much traffic usually). The location above a garage means it can get a bit warm, and unfortunately, there’s no water fountain, which is a bit of a letdown (room to improve). Overall, don’t let any initial hesitation stop you from joining. The community is exceptionally welcoming, striving to make everyone feel like they belong to a safe and supportive group. It’s a place where even the most reserved can find comfort and camaraderie. Give it a try—your heart might just melt like mine did. XOXO

Professor Keel and Coach Emera are two amazing coaches dedicated to the success, learning, and enrichment of everyone who comes through the doors of Ottawa Jiu Jitsu Club. There are all levels of students here and everyone is welcomed from kids classes to beginners to international competitors. Professor Keel provides detailed instructions each class with plenty of time for drilling and practice. Everyone I've had the pleasure of training with here is respectful and kind. Classes are offered every day and several times a day so you can surely find one that will accommodate your schedule.

I moved to Ottawa in Summer 2022, and visited this gym by recommendation. After my first visit I knew this was the place to be for learning Jiu Jitsu. Coaches were super welcoming since my first day, and they are very knowledgeable about the sport. There are Jiu Jitsu classes almost everyday depending on your goals and there are also other combat sports available like wrestling, striking few times a week. The environment is welcoming to everyone regardless of your size, experience, gender. You will find someone to train with!! They also provide classes for kids few times a week which looks super fun time for children.

This is the place. Professor Keel is not only an experienced practitioner but also a very talented teacher -- those are two separate skills. He leads class in a very relaxed manner but his instruction is top notch. He doesn't just explain the "how" but also the "why". On top of that, the community inside of the gym is extremely welcoming. I've been to two classes and each time people walk up to me and introduce themselves. The more experienced students present as humble and approachable, in spite of their consistent tournament successes (just check their instagram for proof). I'm extremely grateful that this is the place I started my journey.
