Self defense and Jiu Jitsu are only a small portion of what they will teach you there. Children, adults, seniors and whole families, should go! it is a life changing experience. An experience every single individual should try. Not to mention how amazing Prof Fabio, Coco and everyone are!! A family environment❤️ Changed my life 🙏🏼
Posted 1 year agoJiu Jitsu has become such an important part of my daughter’s life! It has given her the courage to stand up for herself, bolstered her self-confidence, provided a safe place to grow and learn, as well as bringing wonderful friendships into her life! We have tried many different sports, but Morumbi has been a far superior experience. After attending for this last year, I have watched my daughter gain so many valuable skills that go beyond just Jiu Jitsu - like accountability, responsibility, and integrity. We highly recommend Morumbi because of all they have to offer!
Posted 1 year agoIn the short time (approx 1 month) that I’ve been participating at Morumbi I cannot believe the fun I’m having and the health benefits… I’ve lost some weight, my endurance is improving and the skills I’m learning and friends I’ve made are a testament to the positive impacts jiu jitsu can have on your life. In particular, I’m so stoked on how the professors and coaches at Morumbi have welcomed my son and I into the fold and truly care that you are grasping the skills and enjoying the process!
Posted 1 year agoAfter about 4 months I’d not only dropped 20-30 lbs but gained muscle mass too. Great group of people, very knowledgable professors, and you can have the confidence that you’re not only exercising to move your body, but also learning a useful skill at the same time.
This place is great. Family friendly teaches kids discipline focused self-defense, perfect and fun for all ages, and the professors coaches owner and his wife play a big part in teaching this community together. My daughter's teacher said to my daughter how great that this program helps her in school.
I started training at Morumbi Ventura about eight or nine months ago and have had a great experience. Good people and great instruction. A friendly environment where everyone is working hard to grow and learn while also being kind. Ive had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone. (I’ve also visited the Thousand Oaks location and have had the same experience)
An amazing environment to kids, adults, women, men, learn the best martial art, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! Professor Fábio Leopoldo and his team are great on and off the mats, a great role model for life and how to overcome its challenges. Osss
Like family. Everyone is so nice, helpful and super respectful...
A very good training academy. My little brother trains here, and now he can always take me out using many different holds and takedowns.
Professor Fabio and coach Dini are both very good at what they do as far as training goes, but even more, they are also both very friendly and create a very welcoming family friendly positive environment.
I recommend training here for anyone ages 3 years old to 93!! The best place to train martial arts for adults and kids in all of Ventura county! I've trained here since 2014 and absolutely love it. The Instructors are amazing, the staff is attentive and professional, and the facility is spotlessly clean. I bring my 4-year old daughter with me to class, and am excited to have her learn and sign up too!
Morumbi Jiu Jitsu has seriously been life changing for my son! Not only has it helping him to stay active, but the professor and all his staff have helped my son be more respectful at home and school, increase his confidence and self esteem, and helped him with focus. Additionally, my son has met friends and feels like he is part of a team. The professor truly cares and will contact us and even my son’s teachers at school to ensure things are going well in every aspect of our son’s life.
I started attending Morumbi BJJ in December 2020 and I LOVE it! The staff and the professors treated everyone like family. Professor Fabio is kind, playful, a great communicator, and extremely patient. He has consistently gone out of his way to make me feel like I belong. Morumbi BJJ has a coaching culture. Everyone, from white to black belt, is intent on helping others improve and succeed. The new Ventura facility is gorgeous. It's clean, bright, aesthetically pleasing, with plenty of room for rolling.
We joined Morumbi back in June 2017. I was supporting my niece in her training class in June 2017. Having experiences in mixed martial arts being a Brown Belt in Tae Know Do trained in Japan and Muay Thai in Ventura. I highly recommended my sister to have my niece to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu when my sister was looking for a martial arts for my niece to learn and experience. Morumbi helped and gave my niece the confidence, respect, strength, teamwork, and realization that she’s capable of anything. Being an uncle I am happy and pleased that Morumbi helped her development for this I am grateful. In my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey I experienced brotherhood, growth, family, and support. Looking for a place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Ventura with 6x World Champion Professor Fabio Leopoldo come by and check it out.
Everyone at Morumbi is amazing! They offer a variety of classes for our entire family. I highly recommend Morumbi and they’re awesome Team!!
The best place to learn and practice BJJ for all ages, great instructors, training partners and environment!
Many years later and a few academy later I still yet to find an academy as good as Morumbi Jiu-jitsu. Thank you Fabio!!
Great and best in town Professor coaches.
Amazing place to train and learn the art of Jiu Jitsu from the best instructors around. I highly recommend and the academy/family environment has been a very positive life changing event for our family.
I got to drop into their kettle bell class. The class has a real team feel to it where improvement is recognized and encouraged. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The coach is knowledgeable and helpful. So no matter your fitness level you will be challenged. If you want a great work out with thoughtful instruction and progression this is the place. P.s. fridays you workout outside and it's Great!
This Academy is not your normal gym. It is professional and you are part of a team. The staff is warm and friendly, not scripted, but genuine. You make friends while learning and getting fit. I feel blessed that I found this academy. Team Morumbi! 6 months and lost 15 pounds!
Great coaches and staff. They care about their students and everyone is very welcoming.
Since day 1, this has been one of the best life experiences I’ve had personally & we’ve had as a family. My son is 4yrs old and goes to the kids class 2x a week, I go to adult class 3x a week and on Saturday’s my little son and I take the Parents & Me class to have fun together and share the experience. It’s done wonders for my son’s focus and the perfect outlet for his high energy. He has so much fun. My comfort level with the staff & coaches has exceeded my initial expectations. I’ve personally shed pounds quickly, learning something new every day, felt completely respected since class #1 and it’s a helpful atmosphere. There are rules and a code of conduct in a Jiu Jitsu School, so you have to leave your ego outside the doors...you will get worked out hard, you’ll follow the instructions, have to keep up the best you can as you grow...but it’s done safely. (That’s the point!) No big ego trips & “tough guys only” attitudes like some of the reviews I’m reading. Makes me wonder if it’s their competition doing some of the short 1 star reviews. Highly recommend trying them out for yourself and formulating your own opinion. A+
Top of the line School. I love being here at Gracie Morumbi. Not only are they helping me tighten up my Jiu Jitsu game but they have also helped me with weight lose. They help me and gave me the motivation to quit smoking and I have quit. Its a clean fun safe environment filled with amazing people. the Professors and Coaches are extremely helpful patient and knowledgeable. This is a place you can go to and it doesn't feel like an obligation to go to practice it actually feels like a 2nd home I love it here and guarantee anyone who goes will not regret it.
Top notch coaches and great family atmosphere!
Absolutely unbelievably good environment for kids. They have been so kind, friendly, and patient with my son, I truly may not have believed it had I not been there every time to witness it. Thank You Morumbi Academy.
Morumbi Academy definitely is a great school! For sure one of the best places to put your child to learn jiu-jitsu! I recommend.
I absolutely enjoy the feeling when you walk in those doors of feeling welcome and my son just started and the positive feedback for him to is totally awesome thank you coaches:)
Pros: (subjective of course) -Clean -Good number of classes -Head Instructor is legit champion -Keep things as safe as possible -Large group of students of all abilities Cons: (subjective too) -Expensive vs. competitors (paying month to month especially so) -No real time do drill, work on things on your own with other students or ask questions after class. Class beings...do the stuff they teach, class ends. bye. Open mat is just structured sparring. -Expected to bow to pictures, one of which is Ryan Gracie, watch "Letters to my Father" on YouTube and other stuff, is this the guy you want you or your kids to bow to? -Some instructor yelling when just saying what they'd like would do. -Really push students to vote for best martial arts school: reminders, emails, etc... -Insist black belts always called Professor. -Can only wear their uniforms, and only white. Not everything fits well. No outside stuff visible allowed
I'm not sure why people are complaining about Morumbi Academy but from my experience their classes are conducted fairly well, but the instructor can be strict. Their program isn't like your typical Americanized martial arts and you do learn how to protect yourself... however, it's extremely hard to keep up with some of their classes as a beginner. Prices of their program is pretty expensive compared to other schools around the area. Overall they are not that bad but there are better BJJ schools!
Went in to check out a class nd they wanted high mat fee so i left 🤘
Disappointing Experience at Morumbi Jiu Jitsu I had high hopes for Morumbi Jiu Jitsu, especially for my child, but unfortunately, the experience fell short. One of the most concerning issues was the pairing of children for sparring and drills. It seems there was little consideration for the varying experience levels among the kids. As a result, my child felt overwhelmed and discouraged, which is the opposite of what we were looking for. Additionally, the focus on teaching techniques seemed to overshadow the importance of making learning enjoyable for the kids. Training should be a fun and engaging experience, especially for younger students, but the environment felt rigid and overly technical. I believe that fostering a love for the sport is just as important as mastering techniques, and this balance was unfortunately lacking. I hope the management takes these issues into account to improve the experience for future students. For now, I cannot recommend Morumbi Jiu Jitsu based on my child’s recent experience. Also $350 a month is outrageous.
Posted 1 year agoI inquired about taking classes for my daughter and I, am told to stop by any evening to chk it out. I stop by and walk in w my daughter and ask can I use the restroom real quick and then I’ll discuss classes. I’m told by front desk “Lupe “ no you can’t use the restroom. I then say no thank we won’t be interested in classes now. Not the kind of 1st time experience I’m looking for.
No respect for the neighborhood. Super loud at all times. If they arent outside yelling, they have a leaf blower going. No joke, a leaf blower. To clean the parking lot. Zero respect.
We didn't have a pleasant experience trying out this gym. The instructors are extremely unprofessional and rude. We won't be coming back.
Damn they beat up the new guys really bad here. I didn't feel a welcomed trying out a class. If you're into jiu jitsu and want to be a bad ass then this school might be a good fit for you but if you're just here to lose weight and come here to learn then you should look for another gym.
I was recommended to try out the Gracie Morumbi for self defense for my son and was treated with complete disrespect from one of their head instructors. This place is ran like a cult, they will pretend to serve you under their best interest but reality they will try to brainwash you and your kids to give up everything for BJJ. Really disgusting environment.... definitely not the kind of martial arts school I would have your kids partake on.
