Kimura Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Boston

At KimuraBJJ we passionately study and train in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and continuously strive for excellence to further advance the art. We believe that it is not about winning and losing but about the integrity and effort put forth in the pursuit of our goals.

  • I've practiced at Kimura BJJ for about half a year in 2024. With just about 4 years of experience in BJJ in total and a blue belt with 3 stripes I'm not really advanced, but not an entire freshman neither: I have regular experience from 3 other American schools, and 3 European ones. I can responsibly write that Kimura BJJ is a great BJJ school and recommend it to anyone who wants to check the sport. It is also offering morning, noon and evening classes, so scheduling is not an issue. The instructors are super professional and able to teach both to recreational and competitive students. The number of black belts is, arguably, the highest among schools in the Boston area, and it is typical that at least 2-3 black belts come to any class. Both gi and no-gi classes are offered, and in both cases taught by several different instructors, so you can choose your preferred instruction style. I've had a chance to learn from Bryan, Dave, Marv, McCormick, Nick, and Stan - all helped me understand different aspects of the game. Classes typically take 1 hour, sometimes followed by an open mat. Most, if not all, classes involve live rolling. Most instructors take good care to teach a specific curriculum, intentionally developed and introduced over weeks to really well introduce specific BJJ concepts - this approach is super useful, and works well for groups containing beginners, advanced and expert practitioners. The rolling culture is friendly, and people are eager to help each other grow, as well as adjust to the needs of others. The school is dog-friendly and, on occasion, a dog or two wait in the reception area for the owners to finish their training.

  • I have been a student at Kimura BJJ School for over 2 years and it has been an amazing experience. The instructors and students are some of the greatest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, and continue to meet the more I train. The instructors are some of the most knowledgeable and dedicated people I’ve ever met. The students of all levels are all dedicated to self improvement within the craft and helping others achieve their goals as well. Everything from the warm up exercise routines, to the lessons and sparring Kimura offers something for all levels and they are very accommodating to anyone new to the sport. At Kimura there are lots of options for training Gi or no-Gi at different times throughout the day, and Judo technic offerings a few days a week. I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few Grappling competitions to cheer on my Kimura classmates, and the support from all Instructors, Students and other school spectators is so supportive of all competing. In the studio or at competitions, the energy within the Kimura family is noticeably warming and supportive of all who are training or competing. As a novice, new to the sport, and to the world of substance abuse recovery, training at Kimura BJJ has become a new healthy addiction for me, that offers both physical and mental challenges that have helped keep me on a better path in life. And I recommend trying BJJ or martial arts to many others in recovery as well. From the first emails I had connecting with Joe and my first BJJ & Judo classes at Kimura I have been hooked, and to reflect on where I was, to where I am now has been an amazing and gratifying journey thus far, both in my training, as well as my personal life. I look forward to continuing my learning and training of this beautiful sport through Kimura for years to come. It is such an honor to be part of such a dedicated and respected school as Kimura is.

  • Kimura is a spectacular place to train juijitsu. The entire team is a very welcoming and accepting crew. I have only been training for a little over a year but truly feel apart of the family culture that Kimura embodies. I have been through a lot in my life, especially this past year, and this gym has helped give me a sense of purpose- all the individuals who train here posses great character and help to motivate those around them. Overall, training at Kimura has made me a better person. Highly recommend.

  • This is a fantastic place! My son goes there for 9 months and likes it a lot. The instructors are not only knowledgeable, they are also magnificent teachers. The sparring in martial arts was very challenging for my son psychologically, and instructors guided him carefully, talked to him and listened to him a lot, and now he is fully into it! I really appreciate the work of Kimura's instructors. Thank you!

  • My daughter and I have trained Kimura Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Boca Raton for nearly 5 years. It has been a wonderful time of growth for both of us. We have become more confident and are part of a community that cares for us. Our passion for the sport has grown and helped us to be in the best shape of our lives. Though we have both competed and won medals, our main focus is lifestyle BJJ and enjoying the camaraderie of our fellow students. Kimura is a family. Having said as much, we have had the opportunity to travel north and also train with our Boston Kimura family. Everyone was super welcoming! Marb, Andrea, Nikki…just to name a few, encouraged us to train and paired us up nicely. The women in Boston were kind and matched our level of technique and power. We love the Boston gym and look forward to training every time we wander north into the cold. 😂😉
