GT BJJ is a great gym! I’ve been here for four months and it’s the fourth gym I’ve trained at. Instructors are third degree black belts so technical knowledge is way high. Class format changes but mostly instruction, practice and drilling followed by sparing. A mix of age and reasons for training. There are many good reasons to train here. In my opinion no gym is ever perfect but GT Bjj is a great place to learn and they have a lot of white belts, blue belts and a couple purple belts brown belts and four or five black belts so expect a challenge and an equal opportunity no matter where your at in your game. I highly recommend training at this location if you are trying to learn technical grappling and Brazilian jiu jitsu! Let the good times roll!!
Friendly and family oriented place to train jiujitsu. Beginner friendly. Had a great time training here💪🏽
Been going for about a year now, everyone is very welcoming and ready to take you under their wing, great training partners that are willing to work with you on whatever part of your game you're trying to get better at. The instructors Todd and Greg are extremely knowledgeable and more importantly they really care about the martial art and the people. Overall great and fun environment.
Clean, friendly and informative. The instructors make the class enjoyable and interesting. My only regret is that I didn't start training here sooner. If you are looking for improved physical and mental health, I highly recommend GTBJJ.
I started about 7 months ago, I came in very nervous from not have any martial art background but the instructors and class is very patient and runs at a great pace for everyone to understand. The mats are always clean, class is always fun. I recommend GTBJJ to anyone with or without experience.
I started training at this gym over a year ago. Walking into this gym was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I was very nervous my first time coming, not knowing what I was getting myself into. Everyone was so welcoming & very patient with me. Everyone is so willing to go out their way to help you learn. If you are looking to get into jujitsu, or you’ve been training for some time & want a new place to train I highly recommend coming out to check out a class & see for yourself.
GTBJJ is a second family to me. The instructors Gregg and Todd are amazing and care about each of their students. They are always walking around the class making sure that everyone understands the new moves that are being shown and have no problem showing them again if there is any confusion. Being a female, I have always felt accepted and comfortable from day one. The instructors even check to make sure that nothing inappropriate happens and that the women (and men) always feel safe. During drills you are always paired with another student that is more experienced than you, belt color doesn’t matter, and is relatively the same size for safety purposes. The academy is always clean and taken care of. I recommend GTBJJ to anyone that would like to start the sport or anyone that has trained for many amount of time. It is an academy for all belt levels. They are never driven by money to promote people, you only get your next belt by earning it and that should be highly respected.
Todd and Greg are amazing instructors and overall just great people. GTBJJ is a clean environment, safety focused, and a family like atmosphere. I have been training here for over a year and there is nowhere else I'd rather train.

I've been training at GTBJJ with instructors Gregg and Todd for over two years. When I was new to training I was welcomed into the group by everyone and always felt included. Gregg and Todd always make sure that newcomers are paired up with more experienced partners to help them during drilling. This is especially true for new females. Gregg and Todd always chose an experienced partner that would work with me to make sure I was learning in a safe environment. This academy has now become an integral part of my life and I look forward to each class I get to attend. I would highly recommend coming to GTBJJ to try out a class, you will not be disappointed. I am forever grateful to have joined the GT family that Gregg and Todd have created.
Our son has trained here for 2 years starting when he was 13, in the adult class. Having him here has been one of the best decisions we ever made. Not only has he learned bjj, but he has gained confidence in himself that he didn’t have before. He has been treated with the utmost respect by the instructors and other students and he looks forward to going 3-4 nights a week. Greg & Todd have been great role models for him and they have helped him improve in other areas like the classroom and his high school wrestling. The facility is always clean and well organized, and I always see them clean the mats in between each class.
I’ve been trying here on and off for two years. The family atmosphere is incredible. Every one helps everyone. I’d follow Greg and Todd’s school anywhere.
Highly recommend. Having trained at multiple gyms over the years, I have nothing but good things to say about GTBJJ. Great coaching, clean mats, and family like atmosphere. I would recommend to new and experienced practitioners alike.
I have been training here for over 2 years and nothing but great things to say about GT BJJ! Todd and Gregg are both excellent instructors who take the time to make sure you are learning correctly, and are always available to answer questions. There are opportunities to train 5 times a week which a lot of places don't offer. At GT BJJ there are: no complicated contracts, no specific gi requirements, no paying for belt testing, and the instructors roll with all students. I highly recommend stopping in and giving it a try, all are welcome!
Instructors are great teachers and welcoming. Students are friendly and offer good live matches. Rolls are good.
100% a great academy. Todd and Greg are top notch instructors! Friendly team always makes me feel welcome.
Gave 5 stars because I want to know if this place will train you to be pro mma fighter and have a career? any luck here?
Great kids class, great adults class. This place is a home away from home. Smaller gym where everyone knows everyone by name. 2 black belt instructors teach each class, showing various approaches on technices to cater for all body types. Belts are merit based, not money based. No testing days, no curriculum, no promotion ceremonies, no promotion fees. Priced ridiculously low, this place is a no brainer to join, or to stop by from out of town!
Todd runs a great kids class. He’s a great instructor who spends time ensuring the kids are learning correctly. We’re very happy to have our daughter learning here and appreciate Todd’s patience with her as she learns. Overall I’d recommend this class to any parent looking to get their kids involved in Jiujitsu.
I am a brown belt from the area who stopped in to check this place out and I had a great time. If you are in Akron looking for a place to train look no further. Great environment, excellent instruction, not at all pretentious. 5 star spot all the way.
I’ve been training with these guys for going on 7 years now.. Great instructors and a relaxed environment, it’s like having a second family
I've had a great experience with GT BJJ. I've Won some matches in two competitions that I've competed in so far and went to a few seminars with some awesome coaches and trainers. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to get started in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I started when I was 17 years old and I'm still here!
Been training in multiple martial arts since 1990. Todd and Greg are top notch instructors. The mats are always clean and the classes are very well run. No egos! Just a great bunch of guys and gals to train with. Thank you GT!
Trained here for nearly 2 years. Train here if you like dirty mats and high school level insults. I do NOT recommend woman train here. No professionalism at all.
GT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy is decent for people who already know Jiu-Jitsu and are seeking a gym to get more practice in primarily gi-only competition sparring. I learned everything I know from white belts and 1 purple belt at GT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy. GT is a NOT a safe place for women, people who look different than the instructors’ preferences, and anyone who likes to express themselves through their appearance. GT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy's instructors enjoy "locker-room talk" but they seem to actually enjoy bullying their members that do not look like them. All in all, if you're interested in learning Jiu-Jitsu, look elsewhere. My experience: I am a 5ft 130lb female; I have experience with kickboxing. I was recommended GT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy from a friend that is a member there. After researching Jiu-Jitsu online through google, youtube, reddit, and articles, my friend and I began to practice at home to see if I am still interested (since I have not done a grappling sport before). After gaining some confidence, I decided that I would start learning at GT Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy since it was close to my home and recommended to me. I learned through research, and my short experience there, how I should conduct myself when I am chosen to be a demonstration partner. (Keep your body relaxed and with not much resistance so the demonstrator can show the proper move set). The first 3 classes I was practicing the basics I learned through my friend. 4th class: I practiced with 2 different white belts that taught me many things. 5th class: I was asked by the instructor (a 155lbs Male 3rd degree black belt) to be used in a demonstration for a De La Riva Guard sweep. I was excited to be given the opportunity and accepted. After getting into his guard, as directed, he proceeded to, without warning, to sweep me with full power and gave me a concussion due to him slamming me on the back of my head.
