Gurkan is a true man of the sport - just gets right to it. Friendly, firm, and has exceptional knowledge and teaching skills. Dom is also an incredibly talented teacher.
The whole gyms culture is built on a foundation of respect and discipline without the pompous nature which sometimes comes with BJJ.
Great place to train and I love it
Ground Zero Gym is an awesome place to train. The people are welcoming, and the coaches are knowledgeable, patient, and always up for a laugh.
It’s perfect for all levels, whether you’re a beginner or experienced in BJJ, Muay Thai, or MMA.
I started BJJ a few years ago wanting a hobby and found that whenever you turn up to Ground Zero you get great coaching, a great atmosphere, and a supportive group of people!!
My son and I have been training at GZ since 2024 and we honestly couldnt be happier with our experience. From day one the coaching has been outstanding. The coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and genuinely focused on helping everyone improve regardless of their level or experience.
What really makes this place special is the community. The environment is welcoming, respectful, and very motivating. You immediately feel comfortable walking through the doors and everyone, from the coaches to the members, creates an atmosphere where you truly want to keep showing up and getting better.
It is not easy to find a gym that combines high quality coaching with such a positive culture, but GZ has managed to build exactly that. My son and I both look forward to every session and we are very grateful to be part of this team.
Training at Ground Zero gym has been one of the best things I ever done. When I first walked through the doors, I was nervous, uncoordinated, and 100% sure I’d embarrass myself. But Mav greeted me with the kind of warmth and encouragement that made me feel like I belonged from day one.
Mav is a great coach he knows when to push you, when to slow you down, and when to crack a joke right as you’re contemplating collapsing onto the mats.
The people at Ground Zero bring a real sense of community everyone wants to see you grow and become the best version of yourself.
This isn’t just a place to learn Muay Thai. It’s a place to rediscover your confidence, prove to yourself that you’re capable of more than you think.
If you want a gym where you’ll be challenged, supported, and genuinely cared about without any egos Ground Zero is a great place to start.
Great gym, great training and great community.
I started out at the gym as a complete beginner at Muay Thai and found it was very welcoming for all levels.
The training is great and each session is really diverse, often focusing on both the fitness and technical components of the sport. The head coach Maverick is a great teacher and makes the sessions both challenging and enjoyable and the other gym attendees are very friendly and very helpful.
I've noted some impressive physical (Fitness, flexibility, etc) and mental (Confidence, resilience, etc) benefits of the regular training we receive at the gym and I can honestly say it has improved my life outside of the gym.
All in all I would recommend the gym to everyone regardless of whether they're an experienced martial artist looking to compete or level up their training, or a complete novice looking to learn the sport or simply just improve their physical health.
Could not recommend ground zero more ! I’ve trained Muay Thai under Maverick for nearly 8 years and can vouch that he is the best coach you will find - he is dedicated, insanely knowledgable and always makes sure training is useful and fun! The gym itself has an amazing culture and is perfect whether your goal is to fight or just get fit and have some fun. Truely the best gym out there !!
Ive been training juijitsu and Ground Zero on and off since moving to Brisbane earlier this year. As someone that moves around a lot for work, this means I end up at different gyms all the time.
What I really love about training here is its always a welcoming environment. Even though there are many regulars, its still noticed if I've missed a few weeks due to work/injuries.
The level of the training suits all people too. Doesn’t matter if you are an old man like me who needs to start from guard all the time, or if you are a young whipper snapper who thinks he's the next champion of the nogi worlds, there are people who can put you through your paces.
So I highly recommend giving this place a go if you are interested, or passing through for work like myself.
Also they kick things, but I havent done that.
