Amazing place for kids with life skills you don’t learn naturally. Really well structured classes and actually teaches jiu jitsu in the right way for kids through lots of games and fun. Really glad we’ve found it for our 4.5 year old daughter. Amazing staff and super supportive environment.
My son recently started the 10-day Bullyproof program and absolutely loved it! The coaches and community are fun, welcoming, and very supportive. Coach Robbie is professional, approachable, and knows how to work with both beginners and more experienced kids. We’re really happy with the progress we’ve seen in our son and will definitely be continuing his enrolment. It’s been great to see his confidence and skills grow! God bless you all, Team Gracie! 🙏
Robbie is an incredible instructor with a great staff! Come check it out for kids and adults!
great training conditions for kids, very professional and friendly staff. impressive.
My 4 y.o son really enjoyed the mat munchkins class. They are very welcoming to new members. We love how they reinforce values and to remind the kids that BJJ is about avoiding at all cost and not attack.
I love training here and couldn’t recommend it enough. They have built a culture and community rooted in mutual respect, humility, encouragement, growth and safety. The team are welcoming, incredibly knowledgeable and possess an incredible teaching and leadership range. The value of training here extends far beyond self-defence and is definitely worth giving a go.
I’ve been training at Gracie Burwood for about a year now, and I’m incredibly grateful to Robbie and the entire Gracie Burwood team for their support, encouragement, sense of community, and plenty of laughs along the way. Robbie genuinely cares about his students, both adults and kids, and that same level of care and dedication is reflected in all of the trainers. From day one, everyone has been welcoming, kind, and supportive. Not only have I learned valuable self-defence skills and gained confidence in my abilities, but I’ve also found a community of like-minded people who motivate and encourage each other. Training here has been an amazing experience, and I highly recommend Gracie Burwood to anyone considering starting their jiu-jitsu journey.
Our family has been training at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Burwood for several years, across the Bullyproof, Women Empowered, and Combatives programs, and it’s been such a positive experience for all of us. It’s a great learning environment for both kids and adults, especially beginners. The kids classes are engaging, fun, and build real confidence - it’s even given my kids confidence in the playground at school when needed. The women’s classes are safe and welcoming, making them a great place to start, with a natural progression into Combatives to learn more techniques. What really makes this academy stand out is the wonderful instructors - Robbie, Ally, Keith, and all the other amazing instructors create such a supportive and friendly environment. Highly recommend Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Burwood to anyone looking for a fun, supportive place to train!
I love the real spirit of a warrior that Robbie and the team do so well at embodying. They really care about your personal development, while keeping you safe and having fun in the Jiu Jitsu journey. As an older grappler, with more chronic and serious injuries piling up, I appreciate how well they look after my physical and mental well being so I can keep training with injuries that would’ve been difficult to continue at other gyms. They have a nice inclusive, family environment. I give them my highest rating and recommend anyone thinking about Jiu Jitsu check them out.
Dear Robbie, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your incredible dedication and expertise in jiu jitsu training. Your deep knowledge of the art, combined with your patient and motivating teaching style, has made a profound impact on my son Abhee’s progress and confidence. Abhee is grateful to be under your guidance and look forward to continuing to learn and grow with your support. Special shoutout to Ally who always welcomes us at the door with big smile and going beyond in helping us when we needed support in tying up the Gi or questions we have with the training.
Posted 2 years agoMy home gym is GJJ Footscray and I had to switch to Burwood temporarily for 2 weeks to house sit for my parents. I was initially nervous about jumping ship to a new and unknown gym, but from my first email I could tell that this team was a well-oiled machine. Their communication was super prompt when organising my first session and on the day I was met with smiles and genuine excitement to see me from Maddie and Ally at the desk (and on the mat). The classes, whilst structured slightly differently to Footscray, were an absolute blast. Robbie and his team of trainers just live and breathe martial arts and they ooze passion for the content. I was extra impressed with his ability to memorise everyone’s names, even with a class of 20+ students. The culture and community was very strong, with blue and combatives belts coming to the beginner classes purely just to help those who are less experienced. There’s also heaps of classes to cater for all lifestyles and Striking Skills to encompass all aspects of martial arts. Thanks so much to the team again!
Posted 2 years agoRobbie has all the traits one would expect from an excellent teacher: patience, clarity of communication, passion, and an understanding that learning is doing. His classes are well-structured and fun.
Posted 2 years agoI was somewhat nervous about starting jiu jitsu having no prior experience with any martial arts, but in the women's empowered class I've felt exceptionally welcomed. Clear instructions, great feedback and a great vibe. I would highly recommend!

The atmosphere radiates warmth and camaraderie, catering to beginners and seasoned practitioners alike, fostering skill development and confidence. Plus, it's dog-friendly, offering designated kennel or outdoor space for your furry companion while you focus on mastering techniques on the mat.
