Wonderful BJJ academy, very welcoming and inclusive, amazing atmosphere. Professor Alexandre is fantastic, very knowledgeable and cares about the students. The other students are very friendly and always help each other. I feel part of the family. Should also mention, the facility is very clean, and conveniently located. The best place to learn self defence. I highly recommend!

Have been with Gracie Barra for over 2 years and never looked back! Professor Alexandre and his team are the perfect mentors you need to guide you on your martial arts training. With BJJ being an intense sport, you need a well structured program and lot of motivation & mentorship to get you through the initial phases. The entire Gracie Barra curriculum is structured to help the beginners to feel equipped with self defense techniques as well as make you fall in love with the sport. If you are someone who's interested in learning a beautiful art, check out this school for sure!

This school has been a part of my life for nearly two years, a place I discovered at a very difficult time in my life. I haven't regretted it for a moment. Gracie Barra is more than just a school, it truly is an extended family. The classes are exceptionally run, the atmosphere is friendly and fun, and Professor is a friend, mentor and father figure all rolled into one. Even though work and personal events have forced me on extended absences from time to time, whenever I return I am greeted with all the love and warmth of a family homecoming. Family, duty, and honour. These are the qualities this school embraces and embodies. Not the best school in Toronto, it is THE school in Toronto.

Gracie Barra has offered me, and many others, a safe place to practice self defence, build confidence, and learn Brazilian JiuJitsu in an open and accepting environment. I came in having no athletic experience, and have never once been judged or felt unsafe. The instructors and students at this gym work together to help each other out and learn together. Everyone at this gym has treated me like their own family from the moment I stepped in. I am grateful to Professor Alexandre for running this gym as an inclusive environment, and supporting everyone as we reach new goals in our lives. It’s a clean and lovely environment, especially for women looking for a safe place to learn how to fight. Plus, I get to wear pink on the mats!

Me and my 10yo son have been training at GB Downtown Toronto since 2019 and I can’t recommend this school enough. Professor Alexandre, a 4th degree black belt and student of Mestre Draculino, have successfully implemented an amazing atmosphere where everyone (from young kids to elders, mixing programs like women self defense and competition classes) can find a suitable way to practice and evolve in this great martial art. It’s amazing to see the comradeship and friendship of all the students grow year after year.
