I LOVE Gracie Barra South Portland. They’ve become my family and all want to see me grow and succeed! The heart of the professors shine through the way they teach and in the attitudes of the students. If you’re a woman interested in jiu jitsu, you’ll be safe and supported here by all- students and professors… you’ll also laugh a lot!

Gracie Barra is hands down the best place to start practicing Jiu Jitsu! Both Professor Mario and Ramone are exceptional at their craft and have mastered the art of teaching as well. They are not only highly skilled, but they also take the time to ensure each student improves at their own pace, regardless of skill level. The environment is incredibly welcoming, and from day one, you feel like a part of the family. Everyone, professors, coaches, and fellow students, treats you with respect and encouragement. It’s a fantastic place to train, learn, and grow, both on and off the mats. I highly recommend Gracie Barra for anyone looking to start or continue their Jiu Jitsu journey!

I visited Portland over the holidays and had the pleasure of training here. Professor Mario welcomed me into the class, and I was thoroughly impressed by his high-level instruction, the competitiveness of the team, and the gym’s cleanliness. It was a fantastic experience, and I’m looking forward to returning next time I’m in town!

Gracie Barra is a great place to start training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Classes are professional, the techniques are effective, and the environment is that of people trying to better their lives. Mario is the head professor with 17+ years of experience, I’ve known him for over 5 years and I travel 40 mins one way to learn his techniques. Try a class, and I bet you won’t regret it.
