This place is amazing! The professors and coaches are professional, helpful, and wonderful with the kiddos. You can tell that they are truly passionate about Jiu-Jitsu and the students definitely pick up on and reciprocate their energy. My daughter currently attends classes here and my husband used to attend (plans on coming back once kid schedules cool down). HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Very impressive facility, it's an extremely clean and welcoming environment with plenty of seating. The staff was very responsive from website contact form submission and responded to all my questions quickly in my many email replies. I signed up my 5 year old son for a Saturday free trial class and was immediately impressed by the coaches. They area all very passionate, patient and considerate with the kids. My son goes as much as possible and is learning so much so fast...as well as socializing with a great group of kids with solid focused supervision.

Open communication on fees, a number of class times to meet schedule, clean facility. The Professors are approachable, competent and demonstrate care in teaching all students (young, old, man and woman). As a middle aged-guy, it’s nice to get a bit of socialization with fellow classmates while getting in a tremendous workout. Be prepared, you will get out of your comfort zone.
When you first walk in you feel at home. The coaches and professors are super respectful and nice and makes you feel cozy. Easy sign up and lots of competition for everyone. 👍 highly recommend

Both head Professors are amazing here! My kids and I enjoy training here a lot! Professor Marcelo does a great job with people from beginners (me) to advanced competitors (my son). Professor Mariana holds a women’s only class that my daughter absolutely loves! An amazing place to grow and learn and watch your kids do the same. It’s always great to introduce new role models for your kids and GB Pearland absolutely has that.
This is a great place to train BJJ. Professors Marcelo, Isai, and Mariana are very knowledgeable, technical, and patient when teaching and demonstrating. Whether your goal is to simply be more active, learn self defense, or become a high level competitor GB-Pearland is a great place to train and grow.

Our kid has been going here for a bit now. Their kids program is a good size and the coaches do a great job. You can do classes on a monthly basis or punch card. Overall great experience.

Professor Marcelo is one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teachers you will ever come across: he possesses and teaches sharp techniques (old school and new school), he has an amazing positive personality, and he motivates even the laziest ones (like me). I love the people who train here and I love the mats - ample space and great balance of texture and give. I cannot recommend this school and Professor Marcelo enough. You should go check them out, they offer free trial classes!

This school is fantastic. The Professor(s) are top-notch, very technical, and encouraging. The higher belts that train here are also super helpful and are happy to share their knowledge and experience. They have created an environment in which you can push yourself as far and as hard as you want, so long as you leave your ego at the door. Professor Marcelo, in particular, is one of the best teachers in the game. Highly recommended.
My son LOVES this academy! He looks forward to coming each and every time. Professor Marcelo is wonderful with the kids and it's obvious they all adore him. Professor Victor is truly amazing with the students. He is always patient and extremely thorough with each and every student which I appreciate so much. Professor Diana has such a calm presence that allows her to keep the students focused while ensuring they fully grasp the lesson. Professor Stephan is very thorough thereby guaranteeing the student learns each move correctly the first time while still being friendly thus allowing each student to learn while having fun. While all the professors here are great I honestly can't say enough about how truly amazing these 4 are. They have a gift when it comes to teaching young children. I would recommend this academy any day.
Everyone is great here. I love the atmosphere. Coach Marcelo and Coach Mariana are good at what they do. Very family oriented and they don’t allow anyone to harass their student. They truly care if you are learning. I gone to many Gracie Barra and this has been my favorite location. It’s hard finding good coaches that truly care for their students. They are knowledgeable in what they teach. Highly recommend the woman self defense class as well.
Prof Marcelo, Prof Mariana, Prof Isiah and Coach Victor are all very helpful instructors. The people who attend treat you with courtesy. It’s a medium sized facility and very busy. It’s kept pretty organized. This facility and team has helped me become healthier, stronger and sharper, I appreciate the sport and the service they provide. I feel more confident because I now know a little more about how to defend myself if the need arises. I love the sport aspect of bjj because most of it is applicable to real life. The pricing is reasonable when looking at other schools. Although Prof Marcelo is a world class champion and recognized BJJ practitioner, he is very chill/ humble and reasonable, you cannot go wrong here. I’d recommend you join if you are near by.
This place is great!! The trainers are very respectful and teach in great detail. Victor and Marcelo are great instructors!! My son has learned very much in a very short period of time. We opted for private as well as regular classes. Great self defense classes!!

Signing our daughter up was one of the best decisions we've made for her. The entire team at GB Pearland is phenomenal and absolutely fantastic with the kids. Cannot recommend highly enough and we've seen massive growth in our daughter's skill in just two months of training.

my three kids come here. A 4 yr old boy, one 5 yr old boy and one girl 10 yr old. All have learned so much and self confidence is high. the instructors are so good with the kids. They make it fun and they are very welcoming to new kids. It’s a great workout for kids and they teach to walk away when bullied be confident and defend yourself if you have to.

This is my home. This is a family - based environment where you and your children may learn all the aspects of the Martial Art Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as developed by Master Carlos Gracie. Professor Marcelo "Uirapuru" Azevedo is the real deal. His discipline to the art and lifetime of passion for BJJ embody the Gracie Barra spirit. He teaches the "whole system" not just sport BJJ (the philosophies, the diet, etc.). Professor Marcelo is a mentor to so many and he is equally loved by the many children who attend. It's no surprise that most adults who train here eventually bring their children and most children who train here eventually convince mom and/or dad to train. If you're not sure, stop by and watch a class or better yet, try a free introductory class. You will not be disappointed.

Great place for my kid to learn how to defend himself. The Professor and coaches are good with the kids.
In order to give a proper review of GB Pearland, let me start off with a brief background on myself: I started training at GB Pearland when they first opened last year, in January 2016. Prior to training BJJ, the amount of physical activity I had was very limited; I would go to the gym during work lunch with some coworkers and primarily used the elliptical machine for about 10 minutes, pulled on some of the machines, and would stretch and chat with my coworkers for the rest of the duration. Also, I had no restraint when it came to food; I ate everything. Everything. That being said, I was still pretty small-stature, in my eyes, frail and dainty. My husband had been training BJJ for over 8 years, and not once did I care to try it, fearing I'd break, get crushed, bleed internally and/or die. Every time he wanted to practice/drill stuff on me, I'd respond to him with the latter why it was not a good idea. And then, fast forward to GB Pearland's grand opening in January 2016. Ultimately, I decided to sign up because I was interested in learning self-defense. I got curious, because again, I felt frail and dainty. Fast forward to today. I stuck with it. Learning Jiu Jitsu has been the best decision of my life. Let me tell you, I am the smallest person on the mats, but man do I feel mighty. My goal was to learn basic self-defense, but it has ignited my desire to learn more. I absolutely love the art. Professor Marcelo has been such an incredible teacher. He's silly, cracks jokes, but at the same time pushes us hard to do our best. He has decades of experience to share. He sets a good precedent, because everyone in the school has always been warm and welcome to me, and that extends to every student coming in to learn. It's like a domino effect because every one just wants to share knowledge, play and improve. Key word: PLAY. We work hard, but play even harder. I enjoy coming in every day to train, because it's like recess. Instead of playing on the monkey bars, we get to practice arm bars ;) BJJ has been the most efficient use of my time. Not only am I learning a practical skill, essential to life: self-defense. But, I am also getting stronger, mentally and physically. It has evolved my workout regimen by giving me a goal; now I go to the gym in order to condition myself in order to improve my jiu jitsu. I eat healthier now, again to improve my jiu jitsu. Overall, it's been a great journey pushing myself to excel beyond my prior limits. This is why I'm a firm believer that BJJ is for everyone. After seeing where I started from, to where I stand today; if I could do this, anyone can. You'll just have to work hard, which is easy to do when you're having fun too. If you are looking for a place to learn self-defense, I highly recommend coming here. That's what I did :)

Great school to train, for the kids and adults. My kids (and nephews) love Prof. Marcelo and all of the coaches. They're great with kids. As for the adult classes, you're going to get world class instruction from one of the best. Even though I get destroyed on the mats, I keep wanting to come back for more. It's fun. It's addicting. Give it a try, they offer free trial classes.

Professor Marcelo Azevedo has created one of the most fruitful environments at his academy for those who are looking to improve their lives through Jiujitsu, whether that be for confidence, self defense, getting in shape, or for goals toward competing at the highest levels. He's also one of the nicest guys and most motivational coaches I've ever worked with. He is able to get the most out of his students and makes me want to work hard towards filling my potential. This academy just opened in 2016 and it already is the best place to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Pearland. This location offers classes in many different time slots, which makes it convenient for everyone. The jiu-jitsu classes are led by professor Marcelo "Uirapuru" Azevedo. Professor Marcelo has 21 years of experience and is very detailed and thorough with his instructions. The yoga classes are led by Mariana, who is Marcelo's wife. Her class is fun yet challenging and you will leave feeling much better than when you arrived. The kids' classes are always packed with kids learning self-defense while having fun at the same time. The academy has a great positive atmosphere, where everyone can work hard and improve!
When a person loves what he/she does it reflects in their work. The case is no different with Prof. Marcelo. He cares about his work and the progress of his students. A true great professor with an abundance in accomplishments on and off the mats. You will learn and improve in more ways than jiu-jitsu.
Great place to learn. Professor Marcelo is a very humble instructor but is so inspiring, his approach is one of encouragement and honesty. He encourages you to go for it. He's not one of those instructors who downs and degrades students when they don't do the techniques right. He actually encourages you to try them, even if you fail so he can help you correct your mistakes. I would suggest GB Pearland to anyone.
My 8yr old has been asking me to find a school for him to learn the art of BJJ and after looking for over a year for the perfect school to no avail, one opens up right down the street! I am writing my experience so someone reading this can make an informed decision: 1. Professor Marcelo is a great guy. Very accomplished yet humble. He is a good instructor. I would maintain a lifelong friendship with him. 2. When I joined I thought I would be in a class with the beginners but there are no separate classes. There are two classes: one for advanced and the other for anywhere from beginners to those training for several months. 3. I was hoping for a self-defense training but the focus seems to be mostly on the sports side of BJJ. 4. The fee structure is complicated: - When I first called I was told the training begins from $95/mo but when I went to sigh up, the only offer was $145/mo (also, there is a $100 joining fee). - They make you sign up for 12 months (again, that's the only option) saying you can get out anytime you like for a legitimate reason. I got hurt sparring with my partner. My kneecap dislocated and I had to see a doctor. My doctor told me I should get better in few weeks but because of the genetic makeup of my knee, I was prone to dislocate my kneecap again. As much as I wanted to continue I had to decide against it. I shared this with them and they said they would put my account on hold for three months and then cancel (again, that's the only option). I went back after two months to cancel, they said they have to unfreeze the account in order to cancel, which means I will need to make one more payment of $145! I was disappointed because it was not told upfront. The reason they gave was that it was a business and they cannot take a loss. I am writing so you know upfront what I didn't know. I hope this helps you make an informed decision.
