Form Jiu Jitsu Academy

Welcome to Form Jiu Jitsu, offering world class instruction in BJJ for all ages and ability levels ranging from children to adults.

  • My son has been studying at Form for over a year and a half. He started with one class and now enjoys going to class 4 times a week and has even competed in a tournament. He has made friends in the process and learned a great deal about sportsmanship, perseverance and competition. All of he teachers know him, and all students, by name and are attentive to all needs and learning styles. All of the teachers are both personal and professional with him. Specifically, Coach Brenda is amazing as the instructional leader of most of his classes. She has been inspirational to him and sets a strong example of toughness and persistence. I highly recommend the teachers and learning goals set by them. It continues to be an amazing experience.

  • We love this place. As of this writing we've had our kids at Form for about a year and a half. The coaches and professors are invested both in seeing the kids grow in their jiu jitsu and in their personal development. They really are top notch - many of them have competed and won at the highest levels of BJJ, but they are all super humble, nice, caring, supportive people. I'd absolutely recommend Form to anyone curious about jiu jitsu either for themselves or their kids. My kids knew about me writing this review and wanted to offer their perspectives as well, so bear with us. From my son (8 years old): I like Jiu jitsu. I like the sparring and the racing in warmups. I like that it made me stronger. Sometimes when I when I get to the mat, I feel very happy. It is very nice to go to jiu-jitsu. The coaches and professors are nice, but they are also strict and stern because they want you to do well and know that you can do well. To the adult: if you want to send your kid to Form, it's very fun. But you need to pay attention. If your kids pays attention, they should be ok. Like, if they mess up the first time they try something, the coaches will show it another time. It is important to be paying attention so that you can listen and do the move well and be at the top of your class. If you wanted to jiu-jitsu at Form, all you have to do is sign up and get to know the place. It's pretty good. Remember, keep calm and carry on because it doesn't get easier we work to get better. I love going to Form. It is very fun! From my daughter (6 years old): I like to do Jiu jitsu because I like to get strong and do warm-ups. My favorite things are sparring rounds. Sparring means you can do any drill you learned over the past couple of months. Jiu-jitsu is mostly fun. You do have some tough guys in the little kids group, but we are working together. The kids are mostly nice. Professor Brenda is a black belt. She is a professor not a coach. She is really good and fun. Coach Savannah and Coach Morgan are my other coaches. They are really nice and good. You learn a lot. Competitions are sometimes hard and I failed getting medals twice. But then you just get better. My brother says "it doesn't get easier, you work to get better."

  • My 5 year old son and I love Form. I trained judo through college but have had some time off, and it’s been great to get back into a grappling sport with high quality instruction and a supportive group of practitioners. Many students train and compete at a high level, but there is room for hobbyists trying improve as well. Everyone is welcoming and friendly, with no ego or grandstanding. Professor Rick is a great teacher and leader and sets a great tone for practice. It seems like a great place for women to train as well, with many very skilled women students and coaches. The kids program is great as well, Professor Brenda does a great job balancing fun and accountability, and teaches even the young kids real techniques. The 4-7 year old group is popular with lots of chances for different rolling partners, sometimes there can be 15-20 out there but the coaches keep them in line and still provide individual instruction and feedback. The small independent feel of the gym is really nice too. The flexibility of schedule and month to month membership is great; we’ve paused a couple times for travel and other sports, but always come back. It’s nice to come for the kids class and then stay for the adult gi class. All in all it’s been a great experience; I recommend it to anyone looking to try out the sport first time or get back into it!

  • Form is the best gym in Baltimore. Everyone is super friendly and helpful while still being competitive, and it’s easy to learn at your own pace. Whether you come one day a week and or everyday Form never gets boring. I would definitely recommend Form to anyone thinking of doing jui jistu
