Great academy, I have a lot of fun going here and have learned a lot
Starting Jiu Jitsu at was something at 39 years old I was hesitant about even attempting. After my wife and two sons joined, I decided why not, I might as well give it a shot. What an experience it has been. The coaches here are top-notch and do nothing but foster a family oriented environment to train and learn in. My boys have excelled and have loved every minute of training. Not once have they complained about going to class or having to go train. I recently just got done with my first competition and was lucky enough to have Coach AJ Sams in my corner. It was truly a life changing experience. As someone who was hesitant to join Jiu Jitsu at almost 40, I can honestly say this was the best decision I ever made. The added bonus was a guaranteed date night with my wife every week. If you’re on the fence, come give Charles Gracie a try; you won’t be disappointed.
I can’t say enough positive things about Charles Gracie in Tracy. I’ve heard good things for years, but have now experienced it first hand. My daughters just started their lessons here and it has been an excellent experience. The instructors are all professional and friendly, the environment is competitive while also being extremely supportive, and they are welcoming to students of all abilities and backgrounds. Highly recommended.
Our family has been with the Gracie's for about 10 years. Both my daughters have been training with them since the age of 5. Throughout their time there, they have created a deep-rooted community of like-minded individuals who want to improve not only their physical health, but also surround themselves with positive, influential people. It all starts with the instructors at the academy. The instruction is absolutely top notch. All the instructors are actively engaging with the students to ensure they are maximizing the lessons of the day. The result of all of this is I have 2 strong daughters ready to conquer the world. I wouldn't want to know what their lives would be like without the confidence Jiu-Jitsu has given them. The facility itself is the nicest, cleanest, well-lit that I've ever been to. The mats are cleaned on a daily; restrooms and locker rooms are always clean and stocked.
We have been a customer for over 10 years. Solid instruction for both adults and kids. We love training and gaining skills here. We are so glad to have found a place to progress with. The owners are genuine and compassionate about what they do and it shows.
Our family has been training at the academy for 3 years now, and we couldn't be happier with our experience. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to helping each student improve, regardless of their age or skill level. The environment is welcoming and supportive, making it the perfect place for families to train together. Our kids have gained confidence, discipline, and valuable self-defense and the chance to bond as a family. I highly recommend Charlies Gracie Academy in Tracy. (No I’m not getting paid to write this 🤣) The coaches, teammates, camaraderie and environment are top notch. I have comfort in knowing that my boys can defend themselves if they are ever in a situation, they have gained more confidence and are disciplined that even their teachers at school notice. My husband and I both have busy schedules and we carve time out to train as well (dates nights at least 3x a week😉) Come and try an intro class to see for yourself, you won’t be disappointed!
Updated Review: 3 years later we're still here! The family still training till this day. Grateful to be part of the amazing tracy academy. We have 5 family members training here and will be 6 once our youngest becomes of age. The environment from our team mates and professors are amazing. Everyone has been helpful and patient since day 1! Only regret was not starting sooner. We checked out other academies in the area but even my kids chose to train here because of the attention and quality instruction they receive from their professors. We tried the free trial session and never got an ounce of sales pressure to sign up. This is perfect for anyone wanting to learn self defense also! I find comfort in knowing that my wife and kids know how to defend themselves in case they ever need to. Thank you Team Charles Gracie!
I started off doing MMA and Jiu-jitsu in the bay area moved to tracy and been out of it for about 10 years my kids wanted to join and I'm glade they did they really like it and motivated me to Join again Coaches are great, kids class women's class and men's class are all family oriented I highly recommend familys to sign up get your kids and self started this great tradition will live on for generations to come...
Charles Gracie bjj is the best bjj school in the central valley! Master Charles and all of the instructors are outstanding and I feel privileged to be part of the team. For anyone who is considering joining a bjj academy this is the best in the business, always clean always fun and no egos. Just show up and have a great class with a great team!
Charles Gracie academy has changed the lives of my entire family, we could have walking into any one of the many Jujitsu academies in Tracy, and just by chance we found Charles Gracie not knowing anyone when we moved here, it by far has been the best decision we made for our family watching my children grow in ways I never knew were possible and the staff here at Charles Gracie is 2nd to none

I trained there a couple of years back, is a great atmosphere and an amazing learning environment, me and my wife enjoyed our time there, was a great experience for us as a couple. I Can recommend this school and the Gracie Family with my eyes close.
My son's ages 13 and 14 and my husband have been members of Gracie Jujitsu for over 2 years. It's great exercise, the instructors are awesome and it has built great confidence in my boys. We are so happy to be a part of the Gracie family!
My kids love Gracie!!! We've been going about a year, my kids' confidence has grown, and they behave better at home. Jui jitsu gives them goals to work towards whether it will be getting stripes or earning the next belt. It's a very accepting & positive environment. The coaches are amazing with the kids, very encouraging to all skill levels. Gracie jui jitsu has done so many positive things for my kids. They love to train, love the coaches, they've made friends in their classes. I can't speak higher of this academy.

Fantastic gym. Always clean, the training is excellent and the whole group is welcoming and respectful.
The Charles Gracie Academy is top notch. My wife and I enrolled our son so he can build confidence, discipline as well as learn to protect himself if it’s ever needed. He is excited to attend every class and being able to see the focus he puts into it during the lessons is amazing. The coaches put a lot of effort to properly show them the correct and safe way to perform the maneuvers. The wife and I recently took the intro class and we’re both welcomed openly. The camaraderie not only with the instructors but the students as well shows what type of foundation the academy is all about. We joined immediately right after and can’t wait to develop ourselves personally as well as build new friendships along the way.

I have been training for more than a year now at Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and it has been an awesome experience. Fantastic instruction with many high level instructors. You will grow at your own pace whatever it may be. Great group of people who just want to get better and you will make friends along the way.
I've been going to Charles Gracie in Tracy for about a year and a half, as well as my 7 year old daughter, and we love absolutely everything about the academy. Top notch instruction! Friendly atmosphere. Everyone feels like a friend when you get to class. But don't let that make you think it's easy work. It's HARD! They push you in the best way possible. They want you to succeed and give it your all so you can be the best you can be at BJJ. Master Charles, as well as the other instructors are incredibly helpful teaching techniques, pointing out any errors, and answering any questions, so you can tighten up your game. I always leave class with a huge smile on my face, drenched in sweat. As for the kids classes, my daughter started when she was six (4-6 year old classes) and progressed to the 7-9 year old classes. The instructors, Coach Ruiry, Coach AJ, Coach Jeff and Coach Ryan are amazing with the kids. They make it so much fun. On the few times I was unable to take my daughter to her class, she gets genuinely upset and makes me promise to make it to the next class. That's how much she loves going there. And that kid NEVER stops smiling in class. If you're ever doubting if you should sign up for a trial class, please don't hesitate. Get out there on the mats and roll! You will NOT regret going to any of the Charles Gracie academies. OSS!
I had a short stint in Tracy, at the Charles Gracie Academy (being I am from AZ). While I was inexperienced and in my later years, I was treated with respect and also challenged. What a privilege it was to train under Master Charles Gracie and all the professors at his academy. Many don’t realize that you are training with and under Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu royalty. We have been with Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu academy in Tracy California for a year. My son is 10 years old and he’s been training for over 5 years. The instruction is well structured to allow students of all ages to learn together quickly. Master Charles Gracie and coaches are professionals and they truly care for every student. Great place! After reluctantly deciding to start training, the Charles Gracie environment has allowed me to be in the best shape I've been in 25 years - and it's been incredible mentally and emotionally. Incredible group of people and top notch training. Highly recommended for all ages!
First of all, I would like to say that the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu are evident to millions of practitioners around the world. It is a premiere and complete art of self-defense that is ideal for children and adults to learn. That being said, some academies are better than others in many areas. And it is in my personal experience and opinion that Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy is one of the best schools you could attend or place your children in. My children and I have trained here for 8 months, and in our time, we have grown as a family. Some of this has to do with the training of the martial art itself, however, the staff at the Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy set them apart from other options. Not only are they kind and considerate to people of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds, but they go out of their way to ensure you are learning in a safe and clean environment. Precautions were taken very swiftly by the academy during the COVID 19 pandemic, and it is an ideal training location if your concern is your health and well being. Not only this, but with the lack of physical activity children have been receiving due to the lock-down measures the state took last year, this Academy will be an ideal place for your children to unleash pent up energy and learn the most valuable form of self-defense in the world. We are very fortunate to have them in our community. If you are not in the Tracy area, you can always check their website for affiliated and other Academy locations. From personal experience, we have been to the Livermore and Tracy Academies, and both are wonderfully well kept facilities, and the instructors cycle around them frequently, working together to provide a consistent curriculum of Jiu-Jitsu. My kids beg me to go to Jiu-Jitsu and see their professors everyday, and I am more than happy to take them.
So glad I was recommend this place! I strongly believe girls should learn some type of martial arts to protect themselves. I’m so impressed by the instructors. My daughter loves this sport that she talks about never quitting. She’s sees her growth and knows it works. The facility is clean and they take extra steps to make sure everything is sanitized and cleaned before, between classes and after. We’ve tried another gym with my other daughter and it doesn’t compare to this place. This is top notch training.
Charles Gracie Academy has done wonders for our son. The discipline and values the academy instills in every student for every lesson are absolutely outstanding. We love it here so much! They are so great with the kids. They are patient but also teach them focus and listening. I really like how they have enough teachers to make sure that each student learns correctly. I would highly recommend to anyone.
I enrolled my daughter in this academy during COVID & I was surprised of how clean, cautious & efficient are the instructors with it all. My husband & I are glad we have her coming to this institute. Our daughter has learned a lot & she continues to get excited coming to her classes. Which is very important because children need to be kept busy with new & exciting teachings. It's worth every penny. Also, I must add this. The teachers are so friendly to all the parents & students. A smile goes a long way for sure!
Started training BJJ in 2013. Moved to Tracy in 2017 and been to this academy ever since. Having visited many academies around the country, Master Charles and the other professors at Charles Gracie are the best instructors hands down. Great with kids as well. My 12 year old is training BJJ and soon my 6 year old will be as well.
My kids started here about one year before I joined. They absolutely love it and I have seen them get more confident as they show up and train. If you are looking to get in shape and learn something new, look no further. Charles Gracie and all the instructors are professional and make you feel at home. It is a family environment where you feel safe to train. Facilities are clean. Training BJJ at this academy must be one of the best decisions I made in life. Not an easy journey, but very gratifying.

Nice facility. We were there for my kids belt promotion. They train in MODESTO. Was impressed by how clean and bright it is. Plenty of parking was nice as well.
I signed up two years ago and never looked back. One of the best choices I made. This academy, the instructors and the atmosphere has always been professional. Im proud and very lucky to be able to train at such a great school.
My son has attended Gracie Jiu Jitsu for the last 18 months. His self confidence has increased dramatically, and he is in a lot better shape than when he started. The instructors are excellent and have really given him a lot of one on one instruction. Charles Gracie has always been very nice to our whole family. Such a welcoming and positive environment. The instructors are friendly and inspiring. They teach respect, discipline, self confidence and teach students how to protect themselves. My boys both started young ages 4 and 5, watching them learn and grow in this sport has truly been amazing. They've learned so much and I feel great knowing they can protect themselves from bad or harmful situations. I highly recommend the Charles Gracie Jiu-jitsu academy to all.
I've trained here a number of years and here are my experiences. First, the place is extremely clean and the staff and instructors are very welcoming and professional. You are treated as family and the instruction is first rate. 2nd. I am a bit older and remember seeing the early UFC fights as a young adult. The Gracie name is synonymous with ground fighting and bjj. I was actually pretty shocked when I first came for a trial class to find that I was sharing the mats and being instructed by members of the Gracie family, as well as other high level Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. Charles himself is often in the academy, answering phones, greeting people and at times instructing classes. Words can not describe how cool this actually is to have been taught by a BJJ Coral Belt and member or the Gracie family. I guess my biggest endorsement for the studio is that in addition to becoming a member of the academy myself, I enrolled all three of my children, each now who has trained for several years under the guidance of Master Charles and his staff.
I've been training here for the last 6 years and this is a great environment for the family. Being a female in a predominantly male activity maybe a bit intimidating before stepping onto the mat, but the instructors and students are very professional and courteous. The women students have grown and we now have our first female Black Belt here at the Tracy Academy! This is not an easy feat. I've trained in 3 other disciplines for a total of 9 years prior to my training here. These Academies are extremely clean which is of the utmost importance in looking for a quality place to train in addition to great instructors. Professor Charles Gracie is almost always here at the Tracy location and has his door open to all willing students who want to train hard and learn the Gracie Jiu Jitsu system. Come and try an intro class and decide for yourself!
Visited Tracy for work and dropped in to get a good day of training. Charles was there and welcomed me warmly, along with all the students and 5 black belts on the mat. We did a solid warm-up, followed with drills, a shoulder lock technique from guard, and finished with some competitive rolls. Everyone was really welcoming, and gave me competitive rolls, without me ever feeling in danger of injury from an overzealous partner. The facility was amazing. Large, bright, clean, and well equipped. Thank you for the warm welcome. I hope to visit again soon.

My son has been going here since he was 11, my husband followed suite a year after and so far they both enjoy the challenges both physically and mentally that Jiu Jitsu offers . My review is based on my personal experience in the 4 years I have watched my son train here. The instructors are superb, there is an excellent balance of discipline, having fun and structure that the kids need. As far as the contract, yes there are contracts but every place has that. I would say, be informed, do your research . I would suggest, find out first if your kid likes the sport, go there, go for the one hour trial. Or better yet wait when they offer the 30 day trial. Ask around. Thats what I did, when my son told me he liked it and its something he can see himself doing twice a week I signed him up. It is a commitment for your child but it is also a commitment for you as a parent. I opted for the one year contract and paid for the whole year. (You get a discount if you pay upfront for the whole year). I like this academy because the owner has the technique and skills to teach Jiu Jitsu. (read the history on the Gracie family...) also they are big on safety . I do like the new location better, bigger and plenty of parking. I am not paid to write this review nor was I coerced in writing it. The only cons I can say is I wish they offer cold beverages on site .
Gish Fish sounds like a shill for a "rival" school. Not really a rival, since Charles Gracie is the only real jiu jitsu in town. This other place is an MMA school trying to teach just about everything. 'Jack of all trades, master of none," type place. Charles offer a clean, safe place with outstanding instruction. The new location at the outlet mall in Tracy is spectacular inside and out. Immaculately maintained mats, locker rooms and bathrooms. Tons of parking. Multiple black belt instructors, not to mention the man himself, Coral Belt Master Charles Gracie, teaches often. Anyone who doesn't like this place doesn't appreciate great jiu jitsu.
My son starred at 5 he is now 9 year's old. Charles and the staff understand he is still a child but still know how to push him. BJJ is his first discipline... He still does other sports. It also helps with his attention deficit order.

BEWARE OF CONTRACT: THAT WHEN YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT IT IS NOT WITH GRACIE JIU-JITSU. It is with a billing company called AFFILIATED ACCEPTANCE CORP. that has a BBB rating of B- (and 100% negative responses on the BBB website). The billing company also has a 2 ½ star rating with 91 complaints. Pretty much Gracie Jiu-jitsu takes a 0% interest lone (or line of credit) on your behalf with this contract. They no longer assume responsibility for billing and all questions have to go through AFFILIATED ACCEPTANCE CORP. Partially our fault for signing the document and not reading the fine print of the agreement entirely. It has been a nightmare working with Gracie’s office AND I WILL NEVER AGAIN BRING OR REFER BUSINESS to that establishment. The instructors were great, had great attitudes and worked awesome with the kids. BUT the establishment itself has made us feel as if we were not properly informed (scammed) and lied to. If finances or time restricts you from attending your practice or your son or daughter no longer enjoys the training you are stuck dealing with a very low rating billing company (as if you took a loan with them). I SUGGEST TAKE YOUR KID TO SOMEWHERE THAT OFFERS A MONTH TO MONTH FIRST.
Please dont sign this contract. This is a SCAM! A one year contract, however you must email in order for them to not automatically sign you up for a second year.... If your child is unable to continue going to classes due to school, or other sports/activities there is no way to work with these money hungry people. They only care about being paid. Charles will sit with you, get you to sign the contract, and sit back and collect. You think you are signing a contract with Charles, but in reality, you are signing with a totally different company, AAC. When we signed the contract, the training location was close to our house. However, half way through our contract, Charles moved the location much farther away.
