Black Diamond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Reno BJJ Training. Safe Adult & Kids Classes for All Skill Levels.
Reviews
Kevin Domingo
As a blue belt who has trained at most of the gyms in the Reno/Sparks area, I can confidently say that Black Diamond offers some of the best—if not the best—instruction, coaching, and attention to detail. The coaches take the time to work with you individually, making it a great environment for both hobbyists and those looking to compete. While it’s not as rigidly traditional as some other gyms, it still respects that aspect. Plus, it has the largest mat space I’ve seen so far, and Ryan keeps it clean and staph free.
We love Black Diamond BJJ!! This was my daughter’s first experience with JiuJitSu. The coaches are knowledgeable and made my daughter feel welcome and safe!!
Black Diamond in Reno is a Fantastic academy. In addition to the top level instruction, they made me feel welcome and treated me with great hospitality. I highly recommend this BJJ academy!
This school has a good team of helpful guys and girls with a variety of times to come learn Jiu Jitsu. My work schedule makes it so I have to train early mornings at 6:00AM and or sometimes can sneak away at 12:00 noon for my lunch break session. The environment was very accommodating for someone like me who was new to Jiu Jitsu.
Best jiu jitsu gym in Reno. I’ve trained at a couple different gyms, and I can confidently say that the coaches and members here are some of the nicest and most supportive people I’ve trained with. I always walk away with at least one nugget of wisdom I can incorporate into my game. Love it here!
Black diamond is the best jiu jitsu place because the coaches help you learn jiu jitsu because I am learning there to support them they are very helpful to everyone there and you can meet new people and do not use this to hurt or to be mean to it is bad you can hurt their feelings or injured them we help people learn not to harm them
Great gym, very friendly and welcoming students and instructors. No big ego’s with the upper belts they always help the lower belts. Highly recommend this gym.
This gym is awesome! I am visiting Reno from Milwaukee and decided to check out Black Diamond BJJ on a whim. For me, there are three criteria for assessing the quality of a grappling gym: pedigree, "aura"/culture, and instruction/pedagogy. Much like my favorite/home gym, RSMMA in Milwaukee, Reno's Black Diamond BJJ meets and exceeds all three criteria. Their pedigree is listed on their website and looks legit to me; so, check that out for yourself. But the aura/culture in the gym is awesome: coach Ryan and the gym members treated me like one of their teammates, even though they knew I was a tourist from another gym; they guided me through the lessons, told me where I was messing up w/o being jerks, and they made it fun! When we got to roll everything was very flowy and constructive (without being too easy); even the stronger and more advanced grapplers rolled in a respectful way that emphasized technique but did not sacrifice difficulty (we still got a good work out). In terms of instruction/pedagogy, they went through some high level stuff in a way that was accessible for every level on the mat. If I lived in Reno, this would definitely be the gym for me. I think its a relatively new gym and can only continue to excel and grow! So, if you live in this area and are interested in grappling (regardless of whether you are a pro, newbie, hobbyist, or just trying to get in good shape), check this gym out, get in on the ground floor, learn some cool stuff, and have fun! Black Diamond BJJ in Reno is going to be the gym I visit whenever I am in Reno.
Great learning environment, great jiu jitsu. Black Diamond has mid day and evening classes that are filled with amazing students. I really appreciate their time and effort in letting me drop in to talk about American Grappling Federation. They promised to send out some grapplers to test out our leg lock rules
I have trained here for almost a year now, having trained at other schools previously, and the quality of instruction here is phenomenal. Coaches take time to personally attend to your training, working with your specific goals, directly coaching you as you drill with other students, etc. I have improved like crazy since being here, and I've had a blast while I'm at it.
Great spot to come in and train at. Not my home gym, but they always are very welcoming and willing to share their Jiu-Jitsu. One of many great spots to train in the area.
my friend was six beers in when we decided to wrestle for the heck of it. Absolutely demolished me like I was a 5’2 110 cheerleader even though I have 60 pounds on him of mass. Turns out he uses this place. I’d vouch on it just due to first hand experience with their result
Amazing and clean facility with a great team of instructors! Whether you're a seasoned BJJ practitioner, or you sit at a desk all day and are just starting out the Black Diamond community is extremely welcoming!
If you're looking for a friendly, fun, and family feeling environment, Black Diamond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the place to be, if you want to learn BJJ for personal reasons like Self-Defense, Sport Competitions, and/or exercise for getting in and/or back into shape, come and visit BDBJJ, they have a handful folks there that can give you advice to live a healthier better lifestyle.
One of the top schools in Northern Nevada! Always welcoming, clean facilities, and top notch professional instruction. My family and I travel an hour to go to Ryan's classes at least twice a week. Completely worth the drive and time!
Black Diamond has some of the best and most well rounded instructors. It's a great place for kids and women who are interested in the sport. The atmosphere is safe and encouraging. I highly recommend Black Diamond.
I switched to this gym after training at a nearby gym and the difference is night and day! The instructors have a variety of styles and are all very knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. The students are all very respectful and friendly which creates a great atmosphere. I highly recommend training here for both new and experienced students, there is plenty to gain for all levels.
My husband and I took the self defense class and had a blast throwing each other around! The teachers were so patient and great at showing us how to do the moves. Highly recommend!
I have been training with my brother Ryan Jennerjohn since I was about 10-11 years old, I am 21 now. As my brother is the instructor and mentor here alongside John Magoo, it’s one of the best places to train. This is the most welcoming, open and helpful jiu jitsu place in Reno hands down. Everyone is welcome and everyone here wants to help each other grow, not only with their jiu jitsu, but to help them as a person and their futures, drop on in!!!
I’ve been training at this school for awhile now as well as a couple other BJJ schools in Reno. TBH I prefer this school the most because I get better instruction compared to the others. The two coaches here are gurus in all things Brazilian Jujitsu at a very high level. Both competition wise as well as self defense. I’m starting to feel like I can hold my own against an attacker and I have a great game plan from all the training. The class sizes at this school are generally smaller than most schools, and I appreciate the extra attention I get. I get all the help I want each class and end up learning more. The students there are chill and friendly. You can tell they want to help each other get better.
There is about twice the mat space than the other schools I’ve visited/trained at. The place is huge with room to spread out while rolling. I also like that they have multiple private changing rooms and multiple bathrooms.
This school has better value than the other schools and is less money per month to train than anywhere I’ve ever trained at.
I’ve always liked the Double Diamond area. I think the community out there feels clean and safe.
Very professional gym run by very knowledgeable jiu-jitsu instructors and has a friendly atmosphere. Great school for families, casual practitioners, or those looking to pursue the sport in competitions and tournaments.
Black Diamond is such a welcoming environment with a positive nurturing attitude. The students are super friendly and they all want to help everyone else succeed and improve their game. This is a great family environment where kids can learn from some of the best instructors in town. The BDBJJ curriculum combines old school and new school techniques to sharpen your skills, whether you want to be a world champion or you just want to improve confidence, self respect and be able to defend yourself in a bad situation. The instructors are encouraging and confident, so much so that they openly encourage you to check out other school's open mats to see if BDBJJ is right for you. The school is always clean with great amenities and tons of mat space. Stop by and see why Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the fastest growing sport in the world and why it is second, only to soccer, in worldwide participation. Careful though...you may very well get addicted to Brazilian jiu jitsu after your first class!
This.is.the.place. An incredible mix of progressive techniques and cardio that will take your Jiu Jitsu to the next level. Egos are left at the door, and everyone is friendly and helpful. Come join us, and see how your take downs and ground game improves!
As the saying goes, "Iron sharpens Iron", and the team at Black Diamond are an amazing bunch of highly skilled jiu-jitsu practitioners of all skill levels and belt ranks. I am very thankful to be a part of this team and train with such solid people whom I have grown to call my friends. Coach John 'Magoo' Villarruel and Coach Ryan Jennerjohn do a great job at fostering a family like environment. The school is always kept clean and the mat space is incredible! I highly recommend dropping in and checking the team out.
