Great teacher and always co-operative to help you improve. Price is fair also. You'll always meet an adept sparring partner whether it's bjj or kick-boxing.
Posted 1 year agoGreat place to train BJJ and the instructor has created a great environment to learn and to train. Ive been to other gyms where asking the instructor additional questions would prompt them to take private lessons than just answering the question and just generally making sure you understand the moves. Its just a great environment for newbies.
Posted 1 year agoI have had the opportunity to train with Nick for more than six years and have been doing jiu jitsu at Beltway Martial Arts for over two years. Nick is a fantastic instructor. He is down-to-earth, patient, and a fantastic martial artist. The atmosphere at Beltway is lively, supportive, and very welcoming. I highly recommend Beltway Martial Arts.
Posted 4 years agoI was in town visiting my family getting ready for a tournament which was rescheduled to the next day. I was so excited for the tournament and my blood pressure was getting elevated. I googled local Jujitsu places and I called beltway Jujitsu. The head instructor “Nick” picked up. On the phone he asked me the basic questions for new students which was pretty standard but at the same time. He seemed like a real down to earth person. He didn’t try hard sell or anything just a very down to earth guy. I asked about open mats and with positive energy he invited over. I said I could make it at 7 and he pretty flexible with time. I got there and there where other students there and they had already been rolling. I was welcomed in with a smile by Lynn and the rest of the student that were there. I met nick and he is a extremely friendly guy and very smart. I’ve been practicing Jujitsu for 4 years. He know his stuff and what’s more, I could tell he was matching me. Meaning he was being kind. It was my first time there, and he and his students welcomed me as If I had been for a while. I stayed afterwards for the kick boxing class because I was curious to know more about the school. His guidance was extremely appreciated and he was extremely patient with me even though internally am not patient with myself. He has a very safety oriented approach to training but that does not mean they do not train full contact. He and his students just seem very aware of how to be respectful in full contact and very controlled in they’re movements to both learn themselves but also aid they’re partners. I’ve worked as a trainer for over 4 years but his approach to the variations of bio mechanical movement in exercises far exceed some of the basic personal trainers in the industry. He mats a clean and place looks wonderfully presented with nice well maintained equipment. From what I can tell. He did not just build a school he also built a community for self improvement and guided growth. They have game nights. Would I recommend them. Absolutely! As a school in silver spring I would suggest visiting them or learning from them.
Posted 7 years agoI've been training with Nick for more than a year now after having studied at several other martial arts schools in the county. Nick provides effective, professional instruction in a fun, low-pressure atmosphere. This is a place to not just work out but to hone your craft in striking and grappling. Nick is a skilled martial artist and also a very skilled teacher. 5/5 sticking with the program for the long run.
