I have always loved martial arts but have never been motivated by an extremely strict, militaristic atmosphere that is common in many training environments.
When I expressed this and my interest in starting training again, I was directed swiftly to Zac and Keary's gym. Battlehorse has been my home ever since! The two of them place making a nurturing training environment above all else, catering instruction to the individual, not a rigid curriculum that may or may not work for your body type or skill set. The space is always pristine, care placed from the detailed class work down to organization of pads and gloves.
The care and commitment Zac and Keary put into the gym attracts great people, fellow students who are there to improve themselves and their training partners. Whether you are looking for a hard roll or just working through drills, it's easy to find a fellow student willing to jump in and work along side you.
I cannot recommend this space enough.
Battlehorse is a great place to start or continue your martial arts or fitness journey!
I've been Zac's student for a few years now, and he is an excellent instructor. He encourages us to pay attention to the little details that make techniques work, while helping us to develop our own unique style. Our class sizes are small enough that you get one on one work with the instructor, and large enough that the energy in the room makes every class fun.
Battlehorse accommodates every type of combat fitness goal, whether you are trying to be more active or want to become a professional athlete.
Personally, I enjoy hard training, competing in grappling tournaments, and helping our fighters in their camps. If you are looking for this type of training, Battlehorse has it too.
If you're looking for a great gym in central Illinois, definitely check out Battlehorse Martial Arts!!!
Best place to work out. Welcoming atmosphere. Feel great after every session. Instructors are always their to help, guide and encourage. Don't miss out this is well worth the time!!!!
This is the BEST martial arts gym I have ever been to! Zac has great and extensive knowledge of many different martial arts. This includes Muay Thai, Wrestling, and Jiu Jitsu. He is also a great teacher which makes learning easy. Whether you are completely new to martial arts or have been training for some time you have to stop in for a class. 10/10 I could not recommend it enough and I am very grateful for the BattleHorse Family!
This is a great gym with a really nice atmosphere that doesn't feel like a "bro gym" at all. I attend as a hobbyist who uses the classes as cross training for my other activities - so even though I don't intend on competing or even sparring, I've always felt very welcome and encouraged by everyone there. Zac is really good at knowing just how much to push each individual based on what their goals are. You can get a great workout in while also having lots of fun!
