No other place I’d want to get choked out more than APJJ. These guys are awesome and are super personal with you and make sure you feel good. Couldn’t be happier to join them! Highly recommend!
Dropped in for a 6am class with Justin Smith while visiting Asbury Park & had a great experience. The APJJ team is both a welcoming & challenging squad to roll with. They provided a clean, safe, & spacious environment to train in. Looking forward to dropping in again in the future. Would HIGHLY recommend to visitors, parents, or anyone just looking to try BJJ for the first time.
The best people, the training atmosphere is unmatched. The coaches are amazing. It's a great place with super encouraging and kind people who are great!
Would recommend this gym to anyone looking to train and learn from a great group of experienced guys! Super nice staff and welcoming environment to all, I will definitely be back!
Amazing staff and amazing owners! Great place to learn MMA in a fun and welcoming environment!
I went to Asbury Park Jiu Jit Su last night and I did a drop in for the gi class. Positive vibes, everyone very welcoming. The class was on an awesome Spider Lasso series which I enjoyed. I recommend training here or if you’re in the area and you want to get some training in, don’t hesitate!
The most awesome collection of black belts who want to terrorized the Jersey Shore. The coolest place to train in the area With high-level jujitsu black belt who fought in the UFC, Bellator ,Strikeforce, and M-1 Global. No Fake Belts here! These guys created an amazing environment that is very friendly to beginners as well as advanced practitioners. They also have a kids program as well as a women’s only program that will make your family feel comfortable training Jiu-Jitsu. Roddy and Ian are both Highly knowledgeable head Coaches!
Awesome place, great people. I would highly recommend this gym. Extremely genuine and knowledgeable instructors. #NoPolitics
Detailed one on one instruction, and a room fool of killers at all belt levels. Asbury has changed. It is now larger, cleaner, friendlier and krod showed some fantastic chokes this morning. Clap clap WOOOOO!
Passing through my hometown to visit family, I dropped in on a Monday night class at Asbury Park Jiu-Jitsu, and had a great time. Prof. Andrew taught a no-BS class that was comprised of a warm-up run, BJJ-specific movement drills, and a fairly-fundamental technique, but with some neat details I hadn't seen before. He also offered some great, targeted feedback to me after we sparred. Especially as a visiting student in a large class (roughly 40-50 people), I found it generous of Prof. Andrew to take a few minutes to show me something new and point out a few ways I could improve my game. Even though I was only at APBJJ for a single night of training (I meant to come in for a second class but was too sleepy to make it to the 6am the following morning), I instantly felt comfortable. I'd be happy to go back and train there again, and would recommend the experience for visitors to the area or those living in the nearby who might be interested in a traditional membership. For those looking for a traditional membership, as far as BJJ facilities go, this one is pretty well-equipped: the mat space is enormous and the cardio and weight equipment in the back is a huge perk for those working on strength/conditioning in addition to their jiu-jitsu. Last but not least, a huge plus for any women passing through Monmouth County to train or considering a membership at APBJJ: there was a *solid* showing of six or seven women, half of whom were blue belts and all of whom were exceptionally friendly, kind, and welcoming. Based on my experience as someone who's trained at a number of places around the country, a handful of tough, committed blue belt women is something I do not take for granted when visiting a gym: it's typically a show of a positive gym culture that supports women past the white belt "honeymoon phase" of BJJ. Thanks again for the hospitality and training, APBJJ. I look forward to coming back the next time I'm seeing family or otherwise roaming the Jersey Shore! 🏖
The owner nearly choked me unconscious. 10/10 would go again. Real talk best place to learn bjj. Supportive environment, clean, you learn good stuff that's been tested in major fight organizations.
High level instruction in a friendly and unpretentious atmosphere.
I first came to this gym with no experience and didn’t know what to expect but this gym has exceeded any expectations I could have ever had. As a young female i was fully included by both all the men and women in the gym and have never felt more at home, more safe, and more part of the family they have there. The owners and all the instructors go out of their way to make sure each person is comfortable and are extremely open to feedback, taking the time to go through certain moves if I, or someone else, is struggling with it, and make it known that each person no matter how long they have been, or their belt color, that they are just as much apart of this team/family. Absolutely love this gym!!
APJJ has a professional staff of black belts who enforce a safe and supportive gym culture. Truly "No politics." As a female athlete, I can't stress enough how the culture they built creates a safe and welcoming community for everyone, including women. It can be seen clearly in the fact that our women's program is continuing to grow. I can't thank the instructors enough. Culture aside, APJJ has top tier instruction from skilled professors, a large training facility, male and female changing rooms and bathrooms, and the toughest rolls at the shore.
I'm a white belt and I dropped in for a 6am no-gi class. I can't remember the instructor's name, but he was top notch. I got to learn a couple things from him that will remain a part of my game. They cleaned the mats right after class.
I love Going here. I came in with 0 experience and have only been encouraged by higher belts to get better. The whole team is super supportive Of one another and they really want to see everyone get better and grow into their own. APJJ is more of a community that welcomes anyone who wants to get involved in kickboxing, Jiu Jitsu, or anything in between. All levels are welcome and each person even the instructors will take the time to help you achieve the move you’re learning or will coach you during live rounds to help you grow and gain more skill. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to start or get back into it.
I have been to most gyms in the area and these guys are by far the best! Everyone is super helpful and the vibe in the gym is so good!
Whether you are new to Jiu Jitsu or you are looking for a new place to train on the shore, this is the place to go. From Black belt down everyone is happy to help and share their knowledge. The instructors are all extremely knowledgeable and work to get the most out of each team member. Best Friday night Open Mat around! Their motto is NO POLOTICS which is a perfect description. I've been training at APJJ for 2 years now and I'm confident to say that I'm not going anywhere.
I spend summers on the Jersey shore. I bought a ten pack and trained here several times over the course of the summer. I love the place. The culture is really positive and the instruction is incredible. K Rod and Ian are really high level guys . They embraced me since my first day and were really welcoming each time I dropped in. I also had the chance to attend several of Gus's classes in the morning, which I really enjoyed. Ultimately, APBJJ is a really beautiful facility run by down to earth, friendly people. I highly recomment.
Best place to train brazilian jiu jitsu at the shore. Everybody is welcome. Classes morning, night or private available all week.
Great spot to train. Gym is super clean. Instructors are very knowledgeable and friendly.
Attended an open mat. Very nice facility. Tons of space. The owner and head instructor were very welcoming. I got quite a few really good rolls in
I dropped in a few weeks ago for a midday gi class. Everyone was super friendly! I learned a lot about take downs, which are not my strong suit. What a great learning experience! Will for sure be there again! If you are in the Neptune City area, check them out!
If you’re looking for a gym where you’ll be welcomed right off the bat and fit into a group (more like a family) of people who genuinely want to help out and teach you a realistic sport this is the spot for you. Zero politics gym with a great group of people, perfect for all skill levels.
I just started training recently, 47 years old, knowing nothing at all about jiu jitsu. I can’t recommend this enough. The instructors have been super helpful, thorough and careful in explaining and executing maneuvers. Working with all skill levels and having a great positive energy in the place has made me more eager to attend and learn more. It’s a comfortable environment where everyone works as a team to help each other while getting a great workout, training as hard as you want to. I also liked seeing that there is no politics between academies and people from other academies come to train there, all are welcome. It makes for a very comfortable, humbling, learning environment. Thank you fellas, wish I started this 20 years ago!
This guy is a legend. I've been training for a long time and I'm so happy that he opened a place because it's next level training
