Arashi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has been a blessing for my marriage, my husband often takes the Judo class, with his best friend, under Sensei Drue on Wednesdays right after the children's class. His physical stamina and mental health are always in tip top condition if he's been training regularly. My husband has learned more than a martial art, he's earned the confidence to compete, and think quick and clearly under pressure. **Exceptional Review for Arashi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu** Arashi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is truly a gem in the Imperial Beach/South Bay area! Under the guidance of Sensei Drue, this dojo provides an incredible environment for children to learn not just martial arts, but vital life skills such as discipline and self-confidence. My son and daughter eagerly look forward to their classes every week, and it’s heartwarming to see them grow both physically and mentally. The schedule is perfect for our family, with Kids Judo classes on Wednesdays and Fridays and Kids Jiu Jitsu on Tuesdays. What sets this dojo apart is the welcoming atmosphere; there are no intimidating sessions, making it an ideal place for kids to feel comfortable and engaged. Additionally, the “Tiny Tots” class taught by Miss Candy is a wonderful introduction for younger children. This is a great place to for kids. They also have adult classes. The senseis are very patient & very knowledgeable. My child has become more confident since starting classes here.
The dojo continues to be a welcoming place filled with the same dedicated and supportive community I've always appreciated. The recent addition of new mats has significantly enhanced the experience. These mats feel incredibly nice and bouncy, similar to high-quality crash mats, which adds an extra layer of comfort and safety during practice. The combination of familiar, friendly faces and the improved training environment makes every session enjoyable and productive.
Sensei Drue is an incredible instructor with a keen eye for technical detail. Judo/BJJ moves can sometimes be intimidating even for experienced grapplers, but he will walk you through the details so you can perform every technique safely and confidently. I highly recommend Arashi BJJ for new or experienced students.
This is one of those secret, exceptional, Dojos that trains well. Those who train here are smart about how they train, those who train here are pushed to grow, those who train here are supported by veteran within and without the sport, Coach Drue, who rewards those students who show up with the effort, respect, and commitment the Coach offers those who train here. We LOVE Arashi and are SO grateful for Sensei Drue! We found the dojo on recommendation by a friend when I mentioned to her in passing that my son seemed interested in boxing. He's been doing private boxing lessons with Coach Drue once a week for over a year now and it's so awesome that it's hard to explain! Drue is truly an outstanding coach. Our son has spina bifida so uses a wheelchair--he isn't exactly a typical student. Before Kai's first lesson Drue was so thoughtful and went above and beyond to brainstorm ways Kai could physically get the most from the sport. Now Drue and our son have a well established bromance. Drue understands Kai has physical limitations and works with our son's therapists to understand them, but where Drue surpases a lot of Kai's therapists is in understanding Kai's potential and drive which are more like limitless. I attribute this to Drue's expertise and mastery of the sport he coaches. Not to mention his resilient military resume. Drue helps my son reach his potential by challenging him in the most supportive way. It's inspiring to experience and we are very grateful Drue was up for the opportunity to coach Kai.
Starting and training martial arts at Arashi has been awesome. The group of people you meet and the things that you learn are priceless.

Arashi is my first exposure to training any martial arts and going here is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Sensei Drue does an amazing job instructing and creating a welcoming environment, there is a real sense of camaraderie that makes you feel like your at home. I can't say how much I look forward to every training session. If you're looking for a place to train Judo or BJJ this is the place to go!
Sensei Drue works us hard and works himself harder! He's a coach that really cares about the environment he creates so his students can thrive. He will push you to surpass your limits! I have exercise-induced asthma, but now I can't remember the last time I needed my inhaler because Sensei Drue helped me get back into the best shape of my life. Here's to getting stronger!

I have been here for about 5 months now. This is the first dojo I have ever been to and the first time I have ever trained in martial arts. I was looking for a place where I could learn new skills, better myself physically, and surround myself with other good people who are also trying to better themselves.. Well now I feel like I am apart of family who push each other to be better in all aspects.. Sensei Drue is really respectful and helpful, but also holds you accountable for your actions.. I look forward to coming here everytime and I leave knowing that I worked for something.. whether that be a new technique or some more mental discipline.. My favorite classes are Monday Boxing.. Tuesday BJJ.. and Wednesday Judo.. They have a good selection of classes and schedule.. If you are looking to feel like you are apart of a group of people who want to better themselves.. then look no further 💪

Sensei Drue makes this dojo a perfect place to learn and teach your kids, not only discipline; but self confidence. My Son and Daughter love goin to class. Wednesday and Friday Kids Judo. Solid group of people that come in with a great attitude ready learn and train hard. I’ve worked with Sensei/Coach Drue for a few weeks now and he truly cares about the MA’s he teaches and is very patient. I’m a beginner and he has walked me through several throws, submissions, and punches step by step. Also - this place is CLEAN! I know for me this is a pretty big deal. Naturally you’ll spend a decent amount of time on the floor so it’s nice the cleanliness is a big priority.
I highly recommend this location for both adults and children that are looking to get into BJJ/ Judo. Whether you’re seasoned or a newbie (like myself and daughter) Drue will push adults/ older children to their limits while being detail oriented to advise them on the smallest corrections and Candy will show your little kids the patience they need to grasp a concept while keeping the sessions fun. To top it off - they got the most affordable prices in SD. Give this place a shot!
Drue and Candace are a great team as the Senseis. On multiple occasions I have had the pleasure of sparring and training with visiting senseis from other Dojos. The safety and proffesionalism that they lead by example with, is why I have my family in this Dojo and plan to stay. Their commitment to the students is shown through the effort they put into the Dojo everyday.
My son has been in the kids class here since Fall 2021 and loves it! The coaches do a great job demonstrating skills and providing personal attention to each child.
I drive 30 min (without traffic) to take my daughters to this dojo. I could take my girls anywhere else, but I choose to drive the miles because of how amazing coaches are. We have been attending for over 6 months and I have made some of the best friends bringing my kids here. It’s a family friendly environment and that was very important to us. The coaches are straight up with the kids (and parents), not always the most comfortable to hear, but I know that the coaches care about our kids. No one gets a participation award here you have to put in the work to earn your belt.
Sensei Drue is really great with the kids. Our boys have been training here for about 5 years now. He is consistent with his training methods and the kids love it! He is really great at pushing each kid differently based on personality and drive. Highly recommend this place!!

The only place where you can get belted in both Judo and BJJ. I love the classes, I look forward to them each week. Most of all, I love the coaching! Our Coach pushes us to the next level, each time, and I always feel a sense of accomplishment, after each practice. If you are looking for a place where they put in the time and dedication to their students then this is the place for you. I would not want to train anywhere else.
Highly recommend! Classes are amazing. Family friendly, and fun! The teachers are very supportive when it comes to teaching techniques to all ages, and very patient. Students are always great and respectful. You can train at the competitive level or just to learn to defend yourself. Different techniques and styles are taught different days, and you can go to all the classes when you sign up to see what you like most! I love going to Muay Thai on Thursdays at 5pm. Judo on Wednesdays is fun too-- those happen at 6pm!

My 5-year-old son started attending classes here over a year ago, and he has grown and developed so much through the patient, caring guidance of Miss Candy. He has real muscles and his coordination has improved SO much! It’s been amazing to see him learning different moves and the official names of them. His competitive spirit and general confidence have grown, too! My family is very grateful for all of the experiences and growth we’ve seen in our son!
Best gym I’ve been to in San Diego, immediately felt at home as soon as we walked in. Drue and Candy are very passionate about coaching and create a welcoming and motivating environment that is tailored to each students goals and personality. My son goes to the kids classes and I go to the adult ones; couldn’t ask for a better place for us to learn and grow together.
Coach Drue and Coach Candy are great people who really care about their students! I’ve trained jiu jitsu for 6 years at another gym that also has a judo program, but I go here for judo because Coach Drue takes time with each judo student, no matter their rank or age. I recommend this place to my friends in South County SD for 2 main reasons: 1. The children’s program. The kids have fun and gain confidence. 2. The adults that train here are super welcoming and look out for each other.
I have been a member of the Arashi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu team for three months, twenty-eight days, eleven hours, and thirteen minutes. Training there has helped me stand up to my 7-year old niece, tell my mom that I don’t really enjoy her green beans and stopped a park squirrel from continually chasing me. I’m just kidding, my mom still thinks I enjoy her green beans. More than my supposed enjoyment for my mom’s green beans is my true enjoyment to come to class. I train BJJ on Tuesdays, Judo on Wednesdays, and Muay Thai on Thursdays and will often do the open mat on Saturdays. Coach Drue, who teaches Judo and BJJ, has years of experience and it shows when he teaches. Often times I am trying a technique but something feels wrong in the execution and he quickly can see where I’m messing up. Coach Drue also makes safety a top priority and has these lens on when we roll or do randori (sparring in Judo). As a 40-year-old-not-getting-any younger-my-bones-creek-when-I-walk alpha male (before training at Arashi the bully park squirrel had this position), I really appreciate the emphasis on safety. Coach Dante teaches Muay Thai and he stresses technique as speed and power will come later. I have been doing the same jab and roundhouse kick for the last three months, twenty-eight days, eleven hours and thirteen minutes and finally it’s been coming together (through no fault of Coach Dante, I just take a while). Coach Dante really tailors instruction to your skill level. For example, last week after Coach Dante saw that my roundhouse was at an acceptable level, he started to introduce the refinement of kicking while my planted foot was on the ball of my foot. The added power of my kick caused people to think a minor earthquake happened. Some unexpected bonuses are that Arashi hosted a Christmas potluck and UFC PPV event and Coach Dante will sometimes take professional action shots of us. These photos make me look way more bad-to-the-bone than I really am. In short, I have a lot of fun training at Arashi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This fun mixed with having a great workout and learning how to defend myself keeps bringing me back every week.
One of the great aspects of this training facility is how they have mastered working with children. Their classes are tailored to bring out the best from each child (as well as adults), with emphasis on bringing out each individuals unique skill set that they may never have even known was inside themselves. I was lucky to be able to assist the cadre of instructors in this endeavor. You will not be disappointed in the results your children will exhibit, not just in their training here but in their everyday lives. So many parents speak of the drive and focus that their training here has brought out.

Strike first, strike fast, no mercy!.... NVM that's something else. But the discipline, patience and tough love that sensei Drue and the Arashi team show is like none other. My girls thrive in that environment and look forward to every class.
Such an amazing place and people. Great and affordable prices. My little brother is always eager to go and start training, he leaves each class learning something new while having a great time. We are pushed as students every training to do better and be consistent in what we do to master it. Nothing but good things can be said about the place and people.
Great Value. We practice several martial arts. Bjj, Judo, MMA and boxing. Very passionate owners. Great for kids and adults. One of the few Judo Dojos. So you can learn a unique martial art. Which goes hand in hand with BJJ. (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). I really enjoy the classes and techniques. Great work outs. And great people to train with.

This place gives you more than your money's worth!! Its affordable compared to all the other martial arts schools in SD, and Sensei Drue also offers great coaching for kids and adults alike. Though Sensei is tough on his students, he is fair. I'll recommend this place for anyone looking to learn martial arts and find a good crowd to hang around!
Attended the women’s Judo class. Sensei Drue made sure to push all of us, while making sure to cater lessons to our individual experience levels. The gym in general provided a variety of courses to take, and was always fun and professional! Even during quarantine restrictions, coaches reached out via facebook to make sure we could keep virtual lessons going, and stay in shape! Would recommend for anyone looking to improve themselves, people of all age (they have courses for kids as well), and people who appreciate a personal touch in their training!
