This has been a really good place to learn BJJ. Everyone no matter their rank is welcoming and helpful. The vibe is positive with a focus on leveling people up in skill. While the instructors have serious skills they don't lord it over you, their intentions are to make you better. The place is kept clean, the floors are scrubbed several times every day. Best of all is the policy that it's okay to ask lots of questions. Definitely a good place to train!
Best gym in the valley, possibly the whole of Los Angeles. Todd, the head professor is the coolest and most knowledgeable instructors ever. I’m not just saying that. His way of teaching allows you to learn and grow and learn about ground fighting very quickly if you take in every class. Everyone here is like a family. We accept everyone and embrace people’s talents. If you want to train, train to COMPETE, or just gain self confidence or continue you’re martial arts journey—— Look no further. Some of the top bjj champions trained here. They are high level.
Train here for 5 month already. Learn from legend!! Good for beginners and for professional as well
I trained here for 3 months in 2019 and got significant improvement during such a short period haha. I have to quit because of relocating to another city. It is definitely the best Jiu Jitsu school I have ever been to. Everyone I met here has a spirit and is respectful and inspiring. Gonna miss everyone I met here lol. Keep up the work!!!
I've trained at 5 different BJJ schools over the past 8 years, simply because I've had to move a lot for work. The Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is definitely one of my favorites. Todd, the head instructor is incredibly knowledgable and technical, along with all the other instructors that teach there. One of the things I like most is that the class sizes are relatively small but I can still roll with 2-4 different black belts on any given day. I can't say that about any of the other schools where I've trained. It's incredibly valuable.
I started training here in 2010 and months after training I got 4th place and the IBJJF Worlds in Long Beach under the direct teachings of Todd, Jared and Ben. I learned so much about the sport and the community and will always consider this place home! If you are interested in training with skill and intelligence this is the place. Leave ego at home and bring am open mind to be filled with knowledge from some of the best in the sport!
My wife and I had a private lesson with Professor Nathanson and his son. We had a wonderful experience. Both Professor Nathanson and his son were very inviting and the academy was clean. If you are looking for a place to train, give them a try.
The Academy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, under Todd Nathanson, is a fantastic place to train Jiu Jitsu. Classes happen everyday except for Sunday, and they will sometimes occur on Sunday for sheer love of training Jiu Jitsu. There are a lot of black belts at this place. Each one of them is a different flavor of badass, and a different style of mentor. Two common themes unite them: their love of Jiu Jitsu, and their generosity of mind and spirit to the other students. I love this place and its people. I joined as a total newb with no wrestling or Jiu Jitsu experience under my belt. After a year, I'm still a white belt, but far more athletic, knowledgeable, and confident. I would be there still had I not moved away. Highly recommended if you're interested in an intense and compassionate training environment with some of the most sophisticated practitioners of the sport. To my friends - I miss you all, and look forward to the holidays. Now train!

This is the first school i’ve attended, and where I was introduced to the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Right off the bat I was welcomed, and wasn’t treated as “fresh meat” by the higher belts. Everyone is very willing to take time to help you practice drills, or give advice on something you might be struggling with. Todd is an amazing instructor, who will give his students the tools to succeed. If you’ve never tried Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and want to, or looking for somewhere to refine your game this is a great place to check out.
If you have been looking for a place to train, whether it is to learn the art of BJJ and gain a new skill or just need a place to get back into shape you are done searching! Let me tell you this place is a Masterpiece! Best of the Best! For the past 6 years we have been training on the mats with this amazing family of Black belts! The Nathanson’s have such a great environment, needless to say it is the best place in the world to train and learn! There is not enough words to express the quality of training one can receive at the Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu(Todd Nathanson). The instructors here have extensive knowledge that they easily breakdown to each of their students. Such great experience, you feel like family here which will always set them apart from other schools. Have moved out to Pasadena but no distance or traffic journey is too far to come and train here!
As a third degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, I have to say if you want a friendly and welcoming environment with knowledgeable and caring coaches to start your brazilian jiu-jitsu journey, I highly recommend the Academy of brazilian jiu-jitsu for your jiu-jitsu needs. Todd is extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and patient and will make any body feel welcome at his academy without any politics regardless if you are new to jiu-jitsu or if you happen to be visiting from another school and just want some training when you come to visit town.
The best school, the best people. I wouldn't want to train anywhere else. Everyone is there to help the other people get better, not to always have to WIN. There is a feeling of camaraderie that can't be beat. World class black belts with incredible patience and amazing skill will make you feel safe and at home. We train hard, yet have a more casual atmosphere, with Todd Nathanson, a head instructor secure enough with his ego that you don't have to bow to a photo of him on the wall as you pass by, etc. Come by and check it out; you won't be disappointed!
I've been here since they opened. Great place to train for both tournament and self-defense. And on top of all of that, I've been treated with the upmost respect and kindness.
Trained here for almost a year and I got to say if you want to learn the real art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu then you should come here. I came in with no knowledge of the art and I can say I learned so much from this school. Without the basics, I wouldn't been able to win 2nd place in the All Americas and Naga competition. Highly suggest this school to anyone who loves or wants to learn the sport.
Literally one of my favorite places to be in the entire world. Everyone is super friendly and you will learn the concept behind the technique so you can understand why you’re doing what you’re doing. And Todd is the absolute best and always happy to help with any questions you may have.

Great instruction with very friendly black belts. The only place to train if you're in the San Fernando Valley. Todd Nathanson masters HOF inductee in 2009 provides very technical instruction. Glad to be part of greatness.
Great place to train and fantastic at the art. Come here if you want to learn effective techniques and to challenge your body and mind. At any day and time you could train with 5-10 black belts from all over the country. Great for tournament training or if it’s just a hobby. I am a black belt, have been to schools all over the US and can honestly say this is the best.
