My son trains at A-side for over a year and loves it. Professor Arman is incredible and built an amazing studio. Super clean. I would highly recommend for both adults and kids to join A-side.
This is literally the cleanest facility in LA. The crew was very welcoming and I loved the aesthetic of the school. 5/5
As a brown belt visitor this gym was very accommodating. Very cool and respectful professor and coaches. Highly recommend to drop in if you have the opportunity!
Dropped into a free open mat with my older brother. Great environment/clean lots of locker space and chairs and also has gym equipment! Instructor was very cool and rolled with my brother and let him work on him. Awesome gym!
A-Side is special. There are several things about it that I think are rare at jiu jitsu gyms. It's a family business. Professor Arman cares about every single student, from the gold medal winning competitors to the casuals who just want to learn something new and get in shape. He trains the competitors hard, but also invests in the people who only come in once a week. He rolls with every student, regardless of rank, while some black belts don't because they don't want to get submitted by their students. He's a beast on the mats but rolls without ego. They've cultivated a great culture there that will support whatever your personal jiu jitsu journey is.
Started my 4yr old son back in the summer and he absolutely loves class and has made new friends :) The studio and mats are very clean, Professor Arman is a great leader, and the community is really great to be part of. A-Side is A+
I was visiting from out of town and did both a private lesson with Professor Arman and a drop in class. I think the vibe of a gym really comes from the top down and you can feel that vibe as soon as you walk in to A-Side. The students, coaches, and professors were all very welcoming and made me feel right at home. The students encourage and support each other and you get the feeling that every one is there to learn and sharpen their skills. There is no ego at this gym. Professor Arman's instruction is also incredible. He's tough and will push you, but he does so in a fun manner. He's able to explain techniques in a way that even a beginner like me can absorb what he's teaching and understand not just the how, but the why. I will no doubt be making A-Side a destination whenever I'm in town. If anyone is looking to get started in jiu jitsu, or just want to check out a new gym, I would highly recommend A-Side. Come with a good attitude and be ready to learn and you'll be welcomed into their school like you were part of the family.
As a purple belt I’ve been looking for a gym with a family vibe, fun, safe training environment and good teaching for my kids. I can say without a doubt that I’ve found that for my son at A-Side. My son signed up with his best friend and now both are training 5days out of the week. They would train 7days out of the week if they could because they love it! They are having a blast and making friends while learning great Jiu Jitsu. The schools only been around for a year and they already have 2 teen world champs. Lots of good people training and i say this to make a point that the gym makes an actual effort to keep toxic people out. This can be hard to find sometimes where some owners will choose a profit over actually removing people who are hurting the safe training environment of the school. They also have a sick open mat on Sunday open to everyone. Lots of good rolls to be had 🤙🏻
A-side is an awesome gym to train at, very welcoming of all skill levels, great professor, and everyone who rolls there is kind and hardworking.
if you’re looking for your new jiu jitsu studio, you found it. id been searching for a while and i can confirm the classes at a-side are unmatched. all the professors are super knowledgeable and friendly, the conditioning is sure to level you up, and the vibe is super playful and supportive. great for new and experienced athletes, truly could not recommend it more.
I've been training at A-side for a couple months now. There are few things that stood out to me during my time here. First, it's a family business, and as soon as you walk through those doors, weather you're doing a trial class or you've training for a few weeks, you'll feel like you're a part of it. Second, passion. Arman is very passionate about jiu jitsu, it's place in the world, and how jiu jitsu can change the lives of people around him. It's easy to stay focused during exercises and practice because he explains things with so much passion and he's always paying attention to his students. Third, and this is the most important to me when it comes to jiu jitsu, transitions. Many places will show you a submission or a sweep, but a lot of times you may not know how to apply that, and most importantly how to realistic get there during a fight. Arman will not only show you the move but how does the transition starts. I think no matter your belt, that is very important for growth in the mats. If you're looking for a jiu jitsu school, I couldn't recommend A-side more. Just an added detail, this place is super clean. They have deodorant, mouth wash, band-aids, finger tapes and a lot of other products like that for their students to use. I've never seen that in any other schools, and I've been to quite a few.
This place is very welcoming to both old and new students . The vibe is amazing with the professor , coaches and other students , no egos , just straight training and helping each other get better. Also , its so clean inside , the mats are thoroughly clean every sessions . My family and I love this place . We highly recommend training here . Glad to be part of the A-side jiu jitsu team.
A-side is more than just a Jiu Jitsu studio, it feels like family! Arman and the other professors have been incredible with my daughter and I as we have just began our jiu jitsu training. I couldn’t recommend this studio enough!
Super nice, super clean academy. I've tried a few Jiu Jitsu studios around and Professor Arman is the best. I'm still very new to the sport, I consider myself to be starting from scratch and I'm almost 40. I was worried about getting one of two things: 1) You get a bunch of agro dudes with a lot of ego that want to beat up on white belts and flex all the time, or 2) I would see a bunch of OG's that are just there to hangout and roll half-a$$ed. I'm really pleased to say that since I started the first day they opened I've gone 3-5 times per week. The crew is really great and all the students are really supportive of each other. A good mix of belts taking the time and willing to teach you and let you work. Side note, I've lost like 10 lbs in 5 weeks of training, so that's a huge bonus. Getting down to the weight I wanna be, summer's coming! I really feel strongly that this is a great program focusing on details so I understand concepts. If I have the technique but don't know what the concept is I'm working toward, then I'm just a guy who knows a bunch of moves. Professor Arman, and the other higher belts, really are integral in helping me connect the dots to be a well rounded practitioner. Cannot not recommend enough!!
