609 Jiu Jitsu is an outstanding place to train, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced practitioner. Coaches Jose , Steve and Kate are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and dedicated to helping students improve both their technique and mindset. Coach Jose brings a lot of experience and technical skill, breaking down techniques in a way that’s easy to understand for kids and adults. Coaches Steve and Kate bring their own expertise and coaching styles that keep everyone motivated. They create a welcoming and supportive environment for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced students. The gym has a great atmosphere with a strong sense of community. If you’re looking for excellent training, friendly people, and a place to grow in both skill and confidence, 609 Jiu Jitsu is the perfect choice! Highly recommend!

I am a black belt from Balance Studios in Philly. I’ve known Steve and Jose for over a decade now as teammates and friends from an affiliated school. They’re great practitioners of the art. I was off and headed to the shore for the day, but didn’t want to miss training. I reached out to them and they welcomed me with open arms. Class was at 10:30. There were 4 black belts and 3 purple belts on the mat. Professor Z showed some great BJJ principles and ran a well organized class. The place is conveniently located off the GSP, ACE, and Route 9 and close to the SJ Shore Points. The mats are clean. They have a shower. The students were warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. I had a great time and will return. If you’re in the area def check them out.

I stopped in for a morning class while on a family trip down the shore, and am happy I did. Top notch hospitality. The instructor and fellow students made me feel welcomed the whole time. We had a great class packed with helpful pointers, followed by a few competitive rolls. The gym and changing areas were clean and well-kept. I strongly recommend this school to anyone looking to practice BJJ in the area. I look forward to going back for more training. Many thanks, 609 JJ!

Booked with Steve for a private self defense class. It was 5 people they spent lots of time going over situations and the basics. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. The gym was very clean. I may be a little sore, but certainly learned a few things. Thank you for the time and talent.

Great jiujitsu gym, I started here and trained here for two years and it was a great experience. Met some of the coolest dudes and gals out here in NJ. One of the best BJJ schools in South Jersey no doubt. Myself as well as my wife and daughter trained here. Kids classes are the best. Instructors are top notch, very knowledgeable and learned everything I know today from them. Highly recommend if you’re in the area either living or visiting in EHT. Free Open Mats on Saturday as well are a must attend. I’m sad I’m leaving the area and will miss the people I’ve met at this spot. This gym is a family. 10/10!

Train here!! I was in Brigantine for a family vacation and went to 609 on a Wednesday night. Professor Steve and all the students were extremely welcoming and I had a great night of training. The class was structured with a great warm up, high quality instruction and tough rounds to end the night. Whether you are in the area on vacation or live close by and are looking for a place to train full time, I highly recommend 609 Jiu Jitsu!!

An excellent place to train! Steve was very welcoming to me (a visitor from another school out of the area) and so was the rest of the class. The pace of the class was great - from the initial flow rolls, right up to the live rolls at the end of class; I felt like it was all forward progress and not just sitting around; I had the time and the reps to really get into the technique and think about how I could add it to my game. Overall: Clean facilities, generous mat space, and quality no-nonsense instruction. Stop in!

Second Woman's Self Defense class today. Lots of great techniques taught and lots of fun even when discussions get serious. The basics are reviewed each time, but every class is different, so we have a variety of techniques to keep ourselves safe (that we hopefully will never have to use). The coaches are honest, straight forward and truly care about the students.

I did an open mat for a holiday weekend here for some rolls & meditation. Overall a wonderful experience at the school. Students were welcoming, clean, knowledgable, and good to roll with. A noteworthy mention is how they were hosting a charity roll to support veterans, which I regretfully did not make that weekend however that in itself is a really good sign of owners who CARE hats off to YOU..I had the opportunity to roll with two bb's close to my age. It was a pleasure for me to roll with them, talk and hang in the parking lot. I hope to train again in the next couple months and thank you for the hospitality.

I initially bought a 10 class pass during one of their specials. I held off going for a while, because there were too many men, and I knew nothing about jiu jitsu or any other martial arts. When I finally decided to go I felt welcomed by everyone. All the coaches(Jose, Steve, Nate, Bobby, Fran, etc) are patient, encouraging and push you to do your best. 1.5 years later and I am in love with this place. 609 has become like a second home to me. I have progressed so much and know a thing or two about jiu jitsu/self-defense nowadays. I encourage anyone to enroll at this gym and especially women.

I trained at 609 for two weeks while on a business trip. Very convenient location, very close to Atlantic City. Great instructors. Three very knowledgeable black belts that were very welcoming and great instructors. The vibe was very friendly. I was able to observe the kids class while waiting for My class. The kids teacher seemed to really connect with the kids and had them doing fun drills that promoted sound BJJ fundamentals. If I lived in the South New Jersey area, this would be the place to train and learn BJJ. L

Super welcoming school both for my kids and I. We drop-in on occasion from our home bjj school in Philly as we frequent the shore near this absolute gem. Super reasonable, clean, and excellent instruction. I can't say enough positive things about the extremely useful, badass jiu-jitsu that my family and I learn at 609. I visited 609 jiu jitsu a few weeks back because I was searching for a place for my brother to train at locally. He has a mild case of cerebral palsy so he was initially nervous going to a new place not knowing anyone. I signed us up for a a few weeks while I was in town and he was welcomed with open arms. He became so comfortable with the great folks here that he said he no longer needed me during the intro classes. Since then he has signed up to become a member there and I can say I’m super excited he’s made great friends and a new family.

When I visited Atlantic City for a business trip, I looked for a studio to train jiu jitsu. I’m very fortunate to have found 609 jiu jitsu during my stay in the area. Sensei Komar, every instructor and students not only so gracious in welcoming me into the studio, they very generously shared their knowledge and inspired me with their acumen in mastering the fundamentals. I had a few “aha!” moments in relearning and deepening the fundamentals thanks to their patient instructions and camaraderie. I hope Sensei Komar can visit and teach the fundamental principles in my own home dojo. Thank you, and Oss!!

My wife signed up two of our kids a week before we found out we were relocating out of state. We bought two kimonos and paid for a month of classes (x2) in advance. They wouldn't refund any part of what we paid, but they did offer two free weeks of classes in case we move back to New jersey. Their classes are ridiculously crowded, so kids end up standing in line or sitting against the wall most of the time. Their idea of fitness is to have the kids "run" (as quickly as the smallest/slowest kid allows) in a single-file circle for a few minutes, stopping periodically to do a set of five "jumping jacks" or "squats". Knowing how to perform these exercises is left up to the kids. There are always plenty of coaches present, but there isn't much they can do in such a small room with so many students.
