My family has a student in the 5-6 YOA class. He has been there since he was 3. The instructors are excellent and very knowledgable. They also recognize special needs and pay extra attention to those students who need that type of care. My student is more focused, attentive, and able to grasp all aspects of learning in school, because of the discipline he has received in 1-Up. 1-Up is a great school and I highly recommend it.

Since enrolling my 6-year-old at 1UP, I’ve witnessed a remarkable transformation in both his confidence and self-control. He's more assured in expressing himself, handling situations with a sense of calm that I hadn’t seen before. His newfound ability to manage his emotions and think before reacting has been a breakthrough, showing just how much this environment has helped him grow. As for my 12-year-old, the impact has been equally profound. He's surrounded by positive male role models who not only set a high standard but actively engage with him, offering encouragement and guidance. These influences have completely shifted his perspective, motivating him to take charge of his actions and decisions. The changes in his attitude, responsibility, and overall behavior have been incredible. He's inspired in ways I hadn't anticipated, and I attribute much of this progress to the positive atmosphere and mentoring he's received at 1UP. My so has been attending 1up karate for two years. I have seen such an improvement in his attention and focus. He has improved in his stamina and confidence as well. We just had his 6 year birthday party at 1up yesterday. It exceeded all of my expectations. It was so personal and hands on with the coaches. Everyone had a great time. Most importantly, my son loved it. Mr. Felix and Mr. Steven were awesome with the children. There were about 18 children. Mr. Felix commanded their attention and ensured everyone was having fun. My son was able to cut his birthday cake with a sword and break a board with his knee. Deena and the crew set up and made the party so easy for me. I can’t say enough about how happy I am with 1up.

If you’re looking for the best dojo in the area, look no further! Original review: New 1Up family here, and very impressed with the culture at this Kenpo dojo - they are extremely welcoming to new students of varying ages, and do an excellent job of instructing group lessons while balancing an attentiveness to 1-on-1 coaching and encouragement depending what each respective kid’s natural strengths and what they need to work on (whether that be physical or mental). Great teachers, and you can see the effectiveness thereof in the kid’ enthusiasm.

We have been members of the 1up family since our son turned five 2 yrs ago. It has been an awesome experience to watch the focus, strength. teamwork, and growth just to name a few along with important life lessons some kids are lacking today in society while teaching self defense and cool moves along the way from the top notch instructors who invest everything they have into making there students better in life not just on the mat. This studio really does have the best of everything. They offer so many different cool events and are active in the community. My son has been attending classes at 1 Up for a little over a month. I must definitely say this is an incredible place. We were invited out during bring a buddy week and never left. Not only is my son learning techniques and training in the ways of martial arts but he is having fun while doing it. As a parent the gold that caught my eye about this place was the instruction and the lessons beyond the mat that were being reinforced. My son and I also stopped by one evening and were able to observe an adult class too. So, this place is absolutely an experience for everyone. I am overjoyed and proud to say that we were able to find a place in our community that care about it and it’s people like they do. Major respect to 1 Up Martial Arts.

My daughter joined 1Up Martial Arts a little over a month and I cannot express how much we all love it. She is always exited to go, and try her best during the class. I also have to give HUGE credit to the instructors, they're AWESOME, always paying attention to the kids. In each class you always see at least 3 of them running the class, correcting postures, and helping the kids to do their best every time. Is our first karate experience, but we have done other sports, and the commitment of this team with their kids is exceptional.

When I think of Martial Arts so much comes to mind. Simply put though, martials arts can be defined as any of several arts of combat and self-defense that are widely practiced as a sport. When I see my Son on the mat at this studio that's exactly what I see. Him enjoying a sport. Not just any sport, however, a sport that takes artistry to perform and master. When you think of the essence of Martial arts even more comes to mind and it, to me, has so very much to do with promoting a sense of personal growth in oneself, to promoting inner peace and self-love, and even more so to promote harmony through love for the world and love for all others. This studio has taught my family and I so much, it has become like a second home. My daughter has been a student here for the past several months and she absolutely loves it. She is in the 7+ class and now a yellow belt. Mr. Henry was the first instructor we met and he was so welcoming. The instructors are always so positive and encouraging. We also had my child's birthday party here and it was absolutely amazing! We love 1UP Martial Arts! My 12-year old started there more than 6 years ago, and has learned valuable life skills on and off the mat from the caring and dedicated teachers. And two years ago, I started training with the adult class myself! It is a great way to stay in shape and to feel more comfortable and confident in this wild world we live in. And the Parents' Night Out events once a month are awesome. My son loves them, and its nice to have that free time! What 1up offers is so much deeper than just martial arts training. Highly recommend!!! The instructors are all wonderful and great with kids and My daughter loves coming here and talks about how she loves learning the moves but also talks about how she loves listening to the talks the instructors have with the class before they begin. It’s just a wonderful environment with positive happy vibes and it’s fun and i was surprised but I’m actually seeing a difference in my daughter’s ability to focus on tasks at home and at school so I’m also very thankful for that! I’ve been with 1up for one year since my boy was 4, both my boy and I love the studio! The instructors and Deena and Sarah are so helpful, I love the way they are with those 3-6 years old kids. Don’t think 3-4 years won’t learn anything from karate, actually my son learnt following rules, respecting others, team working and of course many karate skills! I like they set up goals for each class, and they pay attention to each child. Earning stripes is actually a challenge but not a necessary thing. They encourage kids to be a better self! My son had his 5th birthday party at the studio, everyone was enjoying especially the kids. I have to say my experience with 1up so far is awesome! I highly recommend parents in winter park and nearby try their trial class, I think your kids and you will love them too!

This dojo is not like the rest. My daughter has had the same karate instructors for the entire time she’s been there, over a year and a half. They create a relationship with all that walk through the door to make you feel like family. The instructors are so dedicated to teaching the young minds, it’s inspiring! The lessons learned in between punches go far beyond karate. There’s also a mentorship program hosted by a lead instructor, Carlos. He teaches valuable information and spends time going through real life scenarios. Having someone else saying things to your kids that you normally would is so impactful for them! Highly recommend this place. Every class has a theme that benefits physical, mental and emotional health and the teachers deliver it to the kids in a fun and effective way. I have seen my son transformed already within in a few weeks of joining here. The teachers take personal interest in every student discussing with the parents on the things that can help your child. The teachers also provide one on one feedback to each kid at the end of the class, which my son loves, his attitude on how he approaches learning any new skill has changed for the better. This place also has fun planned activities for students and their families such as movie night and parents' night out, we feel like we are part of a community.

We became part of the 1UP Martial Arts family by chance. We had a birthday party for our boys and were so impressed with how they were with all of the children that were there, their mannerisms and professionalism, their genuine joy with the kids and how friendly they were with the adults. During that party it didn’t matter what they were promoting for the studio, we were going to sign them up that day. That was almost three years ago. Their vision, their goals continue to grow but how they are with our kids (and everyone else’s) has remained the same. They continue to make sure our boys grow and flourish and have a fun time doing it. But not only do they learn different topics of life to prep them for whatever social issues they may run into … they will also learn a little karate along the way 😉 They’ve always kept up with our kids off site from time to time with the occasional voice mail or text giving words of encouragement to keep them motivated. The many events they have for both the parents and kids are great. How they will pull a child or two aside after class and chat with them or help them with certain moves or learn new ones is an awesome thing to see. The comfort the kids and instructors have with each other is always a refreshing thing as a parent. The team they have is fantastic. While the communication is great and transparent, I can’t recall how many conversations I’ve had with them about random things outside of karate … movies, video games, music, coffee, costumes etc. While the kids have made their share of friends over their time with them, I feel like I’ve made a few friends as well. We are happy to be a part of this family. And more excited to see how they’ve grown since we started. Since then we’ve moved 30-40 minutes away. While we cancelled a lot of things because of the distance we wanted to make sure we still stayed part of this tribe. The value we’ve received over the years has made it worth the drive.

Still loving this place! They are amazing with my son. They have affordable classes and their communication is great. They post announcements on social media, their whiteboard, and they make sure to say them in person too which I really appreciate. Emails and texts are always responded to within the day. They take the time to work with my son and pay attention to his progress too. My son also wanted me to add that the Parents Night Out they have is super exciting and fun!

I absolutely love this place. They are wonderful with the kids. Ms. Deena who operates the front desk is super nice! All of the intructors are wonderful. They really focus on making sure the kids are enjoying their experience. I really love that they try to instill lessons such as responsibility and accountability. I am so glad we chose this place.. my daughter really enjoys it, she has been developing her skills in karate and discipline. I would absolutely recommend this place!

Our son is in the elite class, and my husband and I are in the adult class!The whole team from the owner ,Luke, The executive assistant, Deena, to the instructors, Carlos, Zack,Vincent,Henry and Felix are so invested in the students, and very knowledgeable ! I can't recommend this dojo enough! We began about a month before the big shutdown, and the staff was immediately making opportunities for the kids to continue online. Their ability to offer continuity, caring, and quality instruction meeting children where they are at and bringing them closer to their best selves is wonderful! As a teacher for over 20 years, I have seen many transformative moments where the shy student led a demonstration, the overly active student was calm and focused, the sore loser enjoyed playing a game they didn't win, the weaker student did 10 consecutive push ups....the list goes on! If you are looking for a place where your child will be surrounded by people who effectively train your child in Karate but also encourage them to seek their best selves...look no further and schedule a trial lesson. The studio itself isn't fancy, but it's just right for the amazing product within.

This place is fantastic! The teachers, Mr. Carlos, Mr. Zach and Mr. Elliot (and formerly Mr. Max) are enthusiastic, engaging and patient. They are effective at conveying the important values that are critical for healthy development, even to 3 and 4 year old kids, while still making things fun. My son really enjoys his classes, and has shown great growth as a result. I also truly believe that he does better in VPK as a result of his time here, so it's a win-win. The teachers do a great job of making personal connections with students and parents alike, and it's obvious that they care. I drive past 3 other karate schools twice a week to come here, and can't say enough great things.

I have never left a review for any business before this. However, I truly feel justified in writing this one. I don’t know much about karate or its instruction, so this review will not be about those things. What has impressed me Is the attention paid to getting to know each of the children. Most schools like this are just churning kids through to make a dollar while paying little or no attention to there development. That is not the case here. The instructors know all the kids by name. They pull kids aside to give them inspirational coaching. They focus on teaching life lessons and skills such as focus, discipline, respect, etc. This is a kids class, so the instruction is by necessity rudimentary. The kids play games together, burn energy, and have a good time while also learning to take instruction. They have a student of the day system to reward kids for effort and focus. It’s fun to watch the kids try for the student of the day honors. I’m pretty sure they spread the “love” around fairly equally. It seems most kids have roughly the same number of awards. Either way, it works. The kids are so proud. On multiple occasions the instructors have sent congratulatory or inspirational videos to us for our son. He watches them over and over. It makes his week. In short, my son loves it. I love what they are teaching him. I love how they go the extra mile to impact him. Thanks, guys. You are doing a wonderful job.

I have been attending the kickboxing classes at champion for about a month now and I LOVE it. The classes are small so you always have someone to check your form and progress. Plus the staff are all amazing! The environment is welcoming and they make being active fun, which is very important to me because I'm not the best with cardio. All in all you should definitely stop by to check it out, you won't regret it!

My daughter has been going to Champion Karate for a month now and we already see huge changes in her typically shy personality. Not only is she more focused, she is also so much more confident and excited to learn new skills. The instructors are amazing! Mr. Vincent, Mr. Carlos and Mr. Max are all so patient, caring and encouraging. Nikki made us feel right at home from the very first phone call. The instructors helped my daughter to become confident and excel in school. After spending 7 years in a school of bullies, she now holds her head up and is having the BEST year she has ever had. This is the ONE thing that means SO VERY much to her that she is willing to work hard at practicing, learning and studying it to become even better at it. FINALLY, something that does not include her iPhone that she enjoys doing! A BIG thank you to Scott, Carlos and Jamie for always inspiring her and being there for her when she really wasn't having a good day. Coodos to 3 men without children who have found a way to relate to every child in different age groups and inspire respect, determination and fun.

We absolutely love being a part of this community. All the instructors here are fantastic. Carlos started teaching our son at age 3 and he is so patient with him. All the instructors really make your child feel special but at the same time teaching them about respect, focus, coordination, and to never give up! We highly recommend!!!

I signed up my kid for a 3 week $20 promotion, but payment was not an option online, I figured maybe once there I would need to pay. It was a great 30 minute session and I could see my kid loving it. However I was told their marketing team does things differently and what they do is a complimentary class, not the 3 weeks for $20 that is being advertised. This is false advertisement, I’m not promoting fraud. What a dishonest place is supposed to teach about discipline???

My family attended this karate school for many years. The quality of the lessons is questionable if your looking for real progression and martial arts this is NOT the school for you . It’s more of a pay for belt / promotion dojo . More importantly the billing of this school is very unprofessional. They have high rates ( I was paying nearly $300 per month ) NOT INCLUDING graduation , mentoring and all the other upcharges they implement. Finally , we asked to be removed off autobill were told by Dena “no problem .. we have to keep card as backup but you can pay weekly” Well guess what they auto billed my card for almost $400 and the worst part is when we texted and called they didn’t get back to us for nearly three weeks . Dena stated “she was on vacation” Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy Well maybe I’f I wanted them to go broke and not learn a lick of karate .

This is an unfortunate situation to be in with this business but I feel it necessary to share the sheer fraud and theft by this company. We came in shortly before Christmas to see about signing our son up for classes. They did an excellent job misleading us and kiss up by setting up a cute tray for our son with some goodies on it. As he attends the first class that night we are pushed between one woman and im guessing the manager. They told us about their purpose and the packages they had. We made sure to tell them about our unique situation as we have a child with special needs so there would be days we couldn't bring him in. They assured us that it was ok and that any classes missed, could be made up for in another class. They said we wouldn't be charged for classes he didn't attend and since it was days before Christmas and they wouldn't have steady classes until after the new year, his classes wouldn't technically start until then and payment wouldn't start until after the new year either. They talked us into a package that gave us 6 weeks to cancel and we thought we found a good place with kind people. Boy were we wrong. He attended a couple classes all together but it was nearly every day they were attempting to charge our card for one reason or another which meant there were weeks we were charged, even though he didn't attend class. That started worrying us but it all proved to be a sham when just a couple classes in, they tell us our son will be graduating to another class and we needed to pay for graduation. What reputable karate club would graduate a child who has only attended a few classes. They hadn't even taught him the handshake at that point and never did. When we tried to reschedule a missed class, they changed things up and told us they only offer zoom classes for make ups. I could pull up karate youtube videos for free with the same outcome. We have spent days now being given the run around. They initially told us if we cancel, we would be refunded but after canceling days ago, they are still trying to charge our card, including just today. So now, my husband is at the location waiting on an officer to come out so we can file a police report against them. They are misleading people and over charging them and don't seem to care. That is theft by deception and false advertisement at the very least. I will try to update this review when everything is done. Its not even about the money, its principal and I won't stand for lying people. Wouldnt recommend this place to even my worst enemy.
