Joining 10th Planet Torrance has been one of the best decisions I’ve made! Sensei Marvin and Coach K are incredibly skilled, approachable, and dedicated to helping everyone improve, no matter their experience level. The gym fosters a welcoming and supportive environment that makes training both enjoyable and inspiring. The curriculum is well-structured, providing a great balance of fundamentals and advanced techniques. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and fully equipped for an exceptional training experience. I highly recommend 10th Planet Torrance to anyone looking to start their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey or take their skills to the next level!

My 11 year old has been training here about a year and my 13 year old has been training here about 6 months. Aside from it being their getaway from anything else going on with pre teens, it’s given my girls confidence and knowledge and above all respect. The way coach Kay and Sensei Marvin teach at this academy is unreal… I started training around their age and I truly can say my daughters have learned more in a year than I learned in my first couple years… the knowledge and repetition and all around want for these kids to improve and succeed is unmatched… if you’ve got a young kid thinking about getting into jiujitsu or you’re an adult trying to find something new in the area… this is the place! If you’re not from the area I’d still recommend the drive… best decision I ever made for my kids.

If you’re looking for a gym that combines high-quality instruction, a focus on often-overlooked aspects of the art, and a friendly atmosphere, 10th Planet is hands-down one of the best places to train in Jiu-Jitsu.

Coach K and Coach Marvin care about the development of their students. They are very encouraging and patient. They pair you up with other students that will challenge you but not crush you. It’s a very positive experience and appreciate the love and camaraderie. If you’re lucky coach Marvin will demonstrates some of his old school break dance moves 💪. I want to send a huge shout out to the other coaches who also show mad love and encourage all their students to be their best. I highly recommend this place for all children, families and adults. RM

If you’re around South Bay area thinking about No-gi jiu jitsu (submission grappling), just want to try a martial art, or some form of self-defense, then 10th planet Torrance is the place to be. They offer trial classes and variety of membership options. It’s no secret that to get better at something you need to put in a considerable amount of time learning and practicing. 10th planet Torrance understands this and is at the core of how they operate: (1) offering no-gi jiu jitsu classes that are topic specific everyday of the week; (2) emphasizing safety and cleanliness to everyone in the academy. I chose 10th planet Torrance because of these two facts. Comradery and getting better at jiu jitsu happen because of these two facts and certainly not without. Whether you’re on the fence, beginner, intermediate, or advanced, 10th planet Torrance can offer growth opportunities to your martial art journey (almost forgot to mention they have striking classes too!)

Sensei Marvin and Coach K are amazing coaches and people. I have been training here for about 8 months and loving it. They both love teaching and growing their students. You can see the passion they have for Jiu-jitsu. There is a lot of fun moments during the classes, however it is an intense environment as the coaches are detail orientated and strive to push yourself to be the best. All the coaches are amazing, and one of the biggest things preached is keeping everyone safe, healthy and injury free.

10th Planet Torrance has been an exceptional jiu jitsu gym in teaching the martial art. Sensei Marvin and the coaches there take pride in teaching jiu jitsu the correct and safest way possible and that’s why they are ahead of other gyms, the passion for the sport is felt in this gym and if you are thinking about giving it a shot this is the right place to go to. 5/5 would recommend to anyone that is interested.

10th planet Torrance is the best BJJ dojo in the South Bay. Professor Marvin & Coach K provide a safe, clean and fun atmosphere for all ages & skill sets. In addition to the best no gi classes there is a variety of classes from Samba to kettle bells. A clean BJJ DOJO is a happy dojo.

10p Torrance is my favorite gym to visit when I’m in so cal!! Marvin and Kay have cultivated a VERY clean, safe and welcoming environment to train in and provide cutting edge jiu jitsu technique. If you live in the area I would highly encourage you to become a member! 10/10 recommended 🎭

The knowledge this place puts out, the frequency of classes, the mindset of the coaches and details that Marvin shows during class is more than what you need in any level you are at in jiu jitsu. I am from Northern California and have been here multiple times and the hospitality gets better every time. Marvin and Coach Kay are awesome people with big hearts who love jiu jitsu. Take a class, camp or open mat.. super worth it

I took an introductory class with Coach K, and it couldn’t have been a more positive experience. I was new to BJJ, and, at 52, was concerned about getting injured. Coach K’s class was informative, safe, and a great workout. We were able to work on realistic moves while things remained controlled and under Coach K’s expert guidance. I would highly recommend 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu: Dark Arts Academy to anyone interested in trying BJJ.

When in for a free trial class 3 months ago signed up and never looked back. Coach Kay and coach Marvin very welcoming and very easy to talk to. There movement classes have definitely help me prevent injuries and ease my way into the more advanced classes.

A great place to learn the true “art” of Jiu-Jitsu! I’ve been training here for a little over 6 months now and have learned more than I could’ve possibly imagined in that time span! It has helped with my self confidence, and increased my cardio and skill set dramatically. When I started I weighed around 245lbs and have dropped down to 210-215 since then! Sensei Marvin is intense, but very detail oriented and all he wants to do is push you to be your best. Coach Kay has a wealth of knowledge as well and runs her classes smooth and efficient. Both coaches are always open to answering any questions you may have and working with you! Not only does this academy offer Jiu-Jitsu they are one of the few academies to offer Sambo and Wrestling, as well as a brand new kickboxing class on Fridays!

Great instruction and top tier teaching. I would recommend this jiu jitsu gym to anyone. Sensei Marvin and Coach Kay keep a high level of hygiene, place an emphasis on safety, and everyone at the gym is welcoming and friendly. I look forward to continuing my practice at 10th Planet Dark Arts!

I took a private lesson with Coach Kay, and it was amazing. She took the time to explain small details and tips to correct my form when she was demonstrating positions, movements, and submissions. I was able to apply the techniques that I learned when I rolled the very next day.

I just completed one of the Dark Arts Training Camps led by Marvin Castelle and coaches Kay and Jay. Everyone was very welcoming, kind, and patient. I’m a big dude and we were working on the meat hook. I thought the moves were just small flexible guys but they coached me through everything and encouraged me as if I was one of their own. I highly recommend checking them out for great Jiujitsu instruction and awesome gym culture.

I recently tried out the women’s class at Tenth Planet and really have enjoyed my time here so far. Coach Kirsten who teaches the women’s classes is an amazing teacher. From the beginning she was very patient with me in terms of explaining the warm ups and techniques since although I have some background Jiu Jitsu experience each gym has a different approach and teaching style. She is incredibly knowledgeable and is able to break down techniques in a way that helps you understand when to use them and how to use them. She can give tips and point out small adjustments in your technique that make a big difference in execution. The culture is very welcoming and warm and there was a sense of camaraderie and community which is wonderful no matter one’s level. The place is clean and well kept. Any questions I have had Coach Kirsten has been very responsive and supportive. Highly recommend!

The first place I trained out here in California; the hospitality and welcoming atmosphere made the experience so wonderful. I would recommend for anyone who is looking for nogi training in a great environment with amazing jiu-jitsu. 10/10 would recommend even if you're not from tenth planet! 🙂

His dedication and investment towards his students is a reflection of his love for the art and evolution of his students and the sport. Kirsten's patience, technique, discipline, and dedication to elevating and empowering women with a community and environment to learn and grow while keeping it welcoming towards everyone is remarkable. A great place to train whether you aim to be a decorated competitor, or are curious to learn for fun and personal development. Either way you can definitely learn how to be a well-trained and formidable martial artist by a couple of efficiently TRAINED KILLERS in their own right.

The gym itself is well maintained, and has a family oriented environment. I drive down from LA to learn from Coach Marvin, as the quality of instruction is well worth it.
