Training under Jen and Ruben has been a game-changer for me. From the moment I walked into the gym, I could feel the positive energy and the strong sense of community they’ve built. Jen brings an amazing balance of discipline and encouragement to every class. Her attention to detail in technique and her ability to break down complex movements make learning both accessible and challenging. Ruben’s energy is unmatched—he leads with passion, and his love for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu shines through every session. He pushes you to improve while always keeping the environment respectful and supportive. Together, Jen and Ruben create a space where beginners feel welcome and advanced students feel continually challenged. What truly sets them apart is their genuine investment in each student’s growth—on and off the mats. Whether you’re looking to compete, learn self-defense, or just get in better shape, you’ll find top-tier instruction and a family-like atmosphere here. Highly recommend training with Jen and Ruben if you want to grow not just as a martial artist, but as a person.

10th Planet Santa Fe is a great gym. Ruben and Jennifer are incredible instructors—they break things down in a way that actually makes sense, and they genuinely care about helping everyone improve. Whether you're brand new or have been training for years, you'll get solid instruction and great rounds here. The best part, though, is the culture. The gym has an awesome vibe—everyone trains hard but stays controlled and respectful. No egos, just a group of people who love Jiu-Jitsu and want to get better. If you're in Santa Fe and looking for a good gym with great instruction and a welcoming atmosphere, this is the spot. Highly recommend checking it out!

Best Jiu Jitsu in Santa Fe - I’m a black belt and recent transplant from Los Angeles where top notch gyms are everywhere. While I’ve always trained both gi and no gi, the instruction and level of training here far out weighs my desire for gi classes. No kool-aid, no mandatory house gear to purchase, just good vibes and great instruction. professors Ruben and Jennifer are super welcoming, great instructors, and their passion for the sport shows. I’ll be training here for the foreseeable future!

10th Planet Santa Fe is truly one-of-a-kind! Ruben and Jen are incredible people with huge hearts, and their passion for jiu-jitsu is unmatched. The depth of their knowledge and skill in the sport is awe-inspiring, but what really sets them apart is who they are as individuals. From the moment you step through the door, you feel like family. Jen’s women’s class is something special. She has an amazing ability to create a welcoming, supportive environment where anyone can thrive—regardless of age, experience, or skill level. She’s such a role model for women’s jiu-jitsu, and her teaching style empowers everyone to believe in themselves on and off the mats. Another thing that stands out about 10th Planet Santa Fe is how impeccably clean the school is. The attention to hygiene and cleanliness is top-notch, which makes training there an even more enjoyable and safe experience. Ruben and Jen’s dedication to fostering a strong, positive community shines through in everything they do. I always leave feeling inspired and having learned so much. If you’re looking for high-level jiu-jitsu in a place that feels like home, 10th Planet Santa Fe is where you need to be!

Ruben is an amazing coach, and 10th Planet Santa Fe is a great place to train. Ruben sticks with the same series of techniques for each class and ensures that students can use those techniques in increasingly realistic situations. This method of teaching allowed me to better understand how to implement the moves Ruben went over, rather than simply being taught a move and being left to figure it out. On top of that, Ruben curates an extremely friendly atmosphere but knows how to add a touch of competitiveness to get everyone to excel. All and all, the instruction at 10th Planet Santa Fe was among the best I've received—and I've trained for almost 10 years, off and on, in many different gyms across the U.S.

Many thanks to Sensei and coach Jenn for all they continue to teach me. The strongest of community leaders, these two. Making a real impact on people’s lives. Not keyboard compassion, but actual boots on the ground help that’s tactile and transformative. As coaches, their capabilities range all the way from cradle to grave. I’ve observed them teach young children, curious old-timers, and everything in between. The ability to harness the blood & thunder necessary to shape a professional fighter, paired with the soft touch required to nurture children and elders (and me), is exceedingly unique. Here you’ll find an aspirational melting pot of practitioners from all walks, molding each other into something different. Sharpening the blades of their souls against the human whetstone. No grit, no pearl. Here you’ll find a rarefied combination of world-class jiu jitsu and high quality people. MG June, 2024

I was down in Santa Fe and trained at three different schools. I have experience traveling to schools and dropping in everywhere I go. Right off the gate, the greeting I received from head Coach Ruben made me realize this school felt different. Ruben's teaching is in-depth, not rushed, piece by piece, step by step. I gained knowledge each time I walked into his classes. It’s not all teaching, as Ruben is clearly an advocate for letting students work on their skills in live rounds. The school is real, legitimately run by an actual black belt coach. No gimmicks. I would highly recommend this school. I would love to train full-time under Ruben as I know he would improve my game.

Stopping by for a weekend? An extended stay? Permanently in town? If you train Jiu Jitsu and don’t stop by 10th Planet Santa Fe you’re missing out! I had the pleasure of calling 10p home while staying in Santa Fe for the winter. It’s nerve racking to walk into a new gym, but Ruben, Jennifer, and all their awesome students made me immediately feel like part of the family! My game significantly improved over my 5 months, and the friendships made there will last long after I leave. Their classes - beginner, intermediate, and advanced - provide value to a practitioner of any skill level. Open mat always offers technical, high level rolls, and on Thursdays, competitors, sport-focused hobbyists, or anyone else looking to polish their game can dial in the details during positional sparring. 10th Planet Santa Fe is a treasure I recommend to all who love Jiu Jitsu!

I have trained across the US at multiple gyms and I have to say 10th Planet Santa Fe is elite. Ruben and his wife offer cutting edge high level jiu-jitsu and a great family environment. I can’t say enough good things about Ruben. I first met Ruben when he was coaching out of 10th Planet Orange County, and even though it has been 3 years since he and his family relocated to Sante Fe, his name still comes up regularly in class. Both from the other coaches, and students, that he positively impacted. His classes and method of instructions is concise, and very meaningful. The most improvement in my jiujitsu over the shortest amount of time occurred during my time with Ruben, and my only regret is that I didn’t have more time with him. He is dearly missed by the Orange County team, and the people of Sante Fe couldn’t be luckier to have him.

I attribute winning the IBJJF World Championships and consider myself truly fortunate to have embarked on my jiu jitsu journey under the guidance of Coach Ruben Rivera. Looking back, the way he approached our fundamentals class with unwavering attention to detail and an unmatched level of dedication. Ruben's ability to delve into the intricate nuances of techniques, explaining not just the "how," but also the underlying "why," was a game-changer for me. What sets Ruben apart is his unique blend of teaching methods, seamlessly paired with an inspiring level of intensity that he encouraged not only from his students but also from himself. The energy he infused into our grappling sessions were unparalleled, leaving an indelible impression on me that continues to shape my approach to this day. I can confidently attribute my assertive grappling style to the invaluable lessons instilled by Ruben. In a world where great coaches are rare to find, Ruben Rivera's commitment to his students' growth and his unparalleled ability to cultivate a fierce yet disciplined mindset make his jiu jitsu academy, 10P Santa Fe, an absolute gem. If you're seeking a coach who not only imparts knowledge but also ignites a true passion for the art, look no further. My journey with Coach Ruben has been transformative, and I wholeheartedly recommend his academy to anyone ready to take their jiu jitsu to new heights.

The best no gi training you will get in the state! The coaching trifecta… a good human being, a skilled practitioner and an able teacher. Frequently you’ll get 2 of these 3 things but in a lifetime you get all 3 from one instructor a handful of times, at best. Ruben is a wonderful person, an expert in jiu jitsu and an amazing teacher. That’s when Ruben Rivera talked to me about the classes and got me in contact with Vin Barreda. I took my child in for her first lesson. Everyone is extremely welcoming, supportive and down to earth. I couldn’t be happier with my experience here and lucky to have such a great school in Santa Fe.

If you are interested in jiu-jitsu and are lucky enough to live close to Santa Fe, you should definitely talk to the coaches at this school. This school is open all day, with classes for all schedules. The coaches frequently compete for national and world titles. There is a large number of advanced levels who will roll with anyone, yet extreme caution and common sense is used. None of the coaches allow sloppy and foolish techniques that will get people hurt. From day one you are learning solid fundamentals and the coaches roll with the students.

Excellent BJJ school, full of friendly and encouraging coaches and members! Coaches pay close attention to everyone's progress and needs. Great place to learn an exciting sport and push yourself. I leave every class feeling I've learned and had fun.

Amazing place! They have a great kids program. My son has been in the program for a year now. It has helped him build his confidence. The coaches truly care about every kid in the class and they make everyone feel welcomed. They also have an adults class which is just as amazing as the kids. I would highly recommend everyone to give it a try!
