A friend and I did a few privates with Lila during Covid, and she’s an incredible instructor. Transitioning from stand-up combat to ground work was a challenge for me, but Lila broke it down in a way that made it digestible for me. I had to stop training when I moved away, but now that I’m back in the area, I’m hoping to start again! 🙏🏽
I started learning Jiu-Jitsu at this gym and still practice here. Both programs of kids and adults are awesome. It's now become a whole family gym which is real nice, it's a community !
My son has been attending 10th Planet Pasadena for the past 6 months, and I couldn't be happier with the positive impact it's had on him. The instructors are incredibly patient, supportive, and knowledgeable. They create a fun and engaging environment where my son can learn valuable self-defense skills while building confidence and discipline. One of the things I appreciate most about 10th Planet Pasadena is the emphasis on character development. The instructors teach my son important values like respect, perseverance, and teamwork. These lessons are invaluable and will serve him well throughout his life. In addition to the physical benefits, I've noticed a significant improvement in my son's focus and concentration. Jiu-jitsu requires mental acuity and problem-solving skills, which he is developing through his training. I highly recommend 10th Planet Pasadena to any parent looking for a positive and enriching experience for their child.
This place is fantastic! Great coaches and programs for all ages and skill levels. The class schedule is very accommodating with multiple morning and evening class options. Large mat space, nice weight training section, showers. Super friendly environment. Highly recommended!
I love 10th Planet Pasadena! Three of my grandchildren are part of their program. I recommend the program to any parent who wants their child to be physically fit, have confidence, be part of a team and most importantly not be afraid of working hard. The success of 10th Planet Pasadena is because they have a fantastic team that implements strategies for guaranteed results.
Lilaaaaa, isssss the best coach ever! Currently taking a women’s self defense class! Such an amazing person ! 💝
I never leave reviews but I felt the need to because I’m so happy about finding this place. My friends and I Started womens self defense classes with Lila on Fridays and I have never felt stronger! The class not only teaches self defense but you get a great core workout. I love how she leads the group and now it has motivated me to get my 8 year old son coming to classes too.
My son has been attending 10th Planet Pasadena for over a year and I couldn't be happier with his progress. The coaches are incredibly dedicated to their craft and show a genuine love for teaching Jiu Jitsu to children. They are patient, kind and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that each child is learning and growing in their skills. My son has developed a strong sense of confidence through his training and I am grateful for the positive impact it has had. I highly recommend this gym to any parent looking for a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for their child to learn Jiu Jitsu.
We wanted to write a quick review of 10th Planet. I won’t bury the lead - this place is awesome! Both our son and daughter have been members of the 10th planet team. Coach Lila and her small group of assistant coaches (including amazing coach Sam) have been incredibly supportive since day 1. My husband and I don’t have a martial arts background and we appreciated the really welcoming nature of the program. It’s also nice that a monthly membership gives you access to a bunch of classes each week, which means we can miss a day here and there and not feel like we are wasting money. For our kids, it was also really important to us that they have exposure to a strong female coach, and Coach Lila is as smart, strong, and nurturing as you can get. She’s the whole package, a very cool presence, and it creates a great atmosphere in the studio. We are so glad we have her - and 10th Planet - in our children’s life. I would highly recommend this program!
I personally love it here it is so welcoming and has such a family like environment
This gym is co-owned & operated by husband/wife black belt team Professor(s) Eric “Compella” & Lila. The gym is super clean, friendly & professional training environment, family friendly, and of course high quality jiu jitsu. I am a blue belt and have been training jiu jitsu 2.5 years total, & just under 1 year here. Since joining, my skills & knowledge have skyrocketed under their leadership & among the community @ 10th planet Pasadena. Highly recommend.
Great coaches, staff and training facility! Super high level jiujitsu with people of all levels. Children program is amazing as well. Very clean and spacious! There’s a workout area as well as a shower which helps a lot.
10th Planet Pasadena is a second home to me and a not an average gym by any means. This gym is a place where you can learn from very experienced, professional fighters and instructors who know how to benefit a diverse class of people from all walks of life. I have trained at 10PP for several years and it is a place I always look forward to coming back to because of the people, the positive culture, and the detailed instruction. As a lawyer who also trains, I am grateful for the schedule that provides early morning classes so I can still practice jiu jitsu before my work begins. I’m happy to be part of a great jiu jitsu school that is also my family.
Awesome community very easy to get along with team members & coaches. Everyone seems to be on the same page here wether you’re a competitor or a hobbyist everyone takes care of each other. Very beginner friendly for people starting, but also there are very high level team mates & classes here for more advanced people. I feel the system and techniques that we learn here are extremely practical and progressive where as, from my own experience, other places seem to teach super random questionable stuff and incomplete systems. I also love that there are classes through out the day if my personal schedule changes there’s always an available class to take so I don’t feel like I have to skip training if something comes up. I like that there’s an event board for upcoming seminars & comps whereas at other gyms I have felt like if I wanted to compete I would have to do my own extensive research. Other pluses there’s a workout gym area for weight lifting & also showers!
Our daughter has been a member of 10th Planet Pasadena for almost 2 years. With the amazing team/coaches (Lila and George), she has exhibited more confidence, and over all physical strength than most 8 year olds I know, on top of that, the ability to defend herself if needed. The kids are highly skilled and is an honor to be part of the 10th planet Pasadena parent community.
If you want your child to have the fundamentals to be able to protect themselves, this is the place! My 8yr old daughter has been a member for 2yrs and i absolutely love the structure and the coaches are phenomenal, knowledgeable in the art of jujitsu. I have so much love for this place and see how much my daughter has learned and the friendships she has built here. I’m proud to be part of this community, look no further 10th planet pasadena is the place!
Such a great place to learn. My daughter (6) is a student in the “Nano” class for almost 2 years. The coaches really do care for the kids. The place is really big, bright and clean. Parking is always easy. Coach Lila is amazing with the littles ones, welcoming and dedicated to her task. 10th Planet Pasadena is also really family friendly.
Love the family community here! It’s more than jiu jitsu it’s community! Perfect place to learn about discipline, respect, self defense and jiu jitsu! Started my daughter when she was 4 and so glad we did! Thank you Lila and Erik for having built this perfect little place.
Great group of guys, super welcoming & Castro is a solid instructor
Excellent gym. The kids have a blast and the teachers are friendly and fun. Great atmosphere!
If you are looking for a great community and high level instruction! This is it! Lila and Erik are amazing black belts with years of jiu jitsu. They are passionate individuals and have created such a cool environment. Clean facility and great place to train.
Love the camaraderie between students and coaches
The techniques taught here have taken my Jiu jitsu to another level, the environment is great as well as the professor’s welcoming attitude. Great place to train with renowned black belts. And on top of that, the community is awesome! Definitely recommended for any level students
Amazing and encouraging instructors. Lots of classes available at different times and the more advanced students are friendly and always looking to help new students. Really good vibes walking in here.
Bar none the best jiu jitsu instruction you will find. Erik "Compella" Cruz and Eric Ramey, 10th Planet Black Belts, break down the science and art of jiu jitsu on a technical level, earning the title of Professors. If you live in Pasadena and want top notch instruction, this is the place! Covid update: After taking a two year vacation because of the blip, I once again found myself at the doorstep of 10th Planet Pasadena. I felt very confident coming back because the owners were taking extra precautionary measures to keep the gym clean and the students healthy through these times, doing temp checks and keeping the place well sanitized. I'm so appreciative that I get to continue doing one of favorite activities in a safe environment! Move update: I keep coming back to update my comment because this place keeps getting better. They recently moved upstairs to a larger a space, with a bigger floor space as well as gym equipment. They've also expanded their program to teach younger kids (Nanotechs, 3-6 years old!) It is so rare to have so many black belts teaching their main classes, and 10th Planet Pasadena does it masterfully. If you haven't been yet, what are you waiting for?
This is what my subjective opinion of what 10th Planet Pasadena’s business model is: FOCUS on Jiu Jitsu … everything else will take care of itself. I’d like to believe I did diligent research before I ended up with 10P. There’s something about the BJJ community (in 10p Pasadena at least) that promotes genuine respect regardless of what belt you hold. There still is a hierarchy somewhat, but not in an ostentatious manner. BJJ can easily be overwhelming. Firsthand experience… “fundamentals has the potential to carry 8 moves in one drill… not to mention 10 other details in regard to body position. Instructors have an innate understanding of that, most of the students do too. A lot of other students help each other. Coach Lila shines with her motivation and positive energy. No, not the rah rah kind. She’s one who won’t sugarcoat but rather, teach tangible approaches and moves and attention to detail that helps you grow in your journey. My curiosity however led me to try out 10p HQ DTLA because it’s closer to home, experience the mecca of 10p and the “upside” of having back to back fundamental classes. Exaggerated on the upside part because I’m not sure how it’s gonna work out for me physically… but I still have to find out. 10p Pasadena is a business that doesn’t thrive on financial growth upfront. A business still needs to make money but they do it in a fashion where the offer is simple… Try out a free session, think about it and call us if you decide to. No pressure to sign up.. They’re more concerned to make sure I get my heels dug in correctly for an Ashi Garami more than signing up for one on one sessions lol. 10p thrives on establishing family with students and coaches alike. Coach Eric Ramey is all business in the mixed level class. It’s very technical but informative provided that you’re at that level that you understand theoretical approaches to JJ. Almost everyone knows everybody, clowning around, relaxing calmly before it begins. I’ve never had a chance to take Coach Compella’s class but I’ve seen him do mixed levels as well. I’ve seen/heard most of their podcasts and I highly respect these individuals. Coach Lila is my favorite since she has the most unassuming, PATIENT, instructive skill set that are unmatched, especially for beginners like myself. Coach Rich and coach George also teach fundamental classes and they too have the potential to be great instructors/professors. I find it easier to learn from Coach Rich because he takes the time to listen and his subtext is genuinely calm and open to questions. I appreciate that the most when I just cannot get it the 1st time. Age catches up to your mental capacity to learn, high blood pressure, personal life situations and all sorts of other reasons/excuses. Lol They say boxing is a science. It truly is. But then, BJJ feels like MIT. Information is 10x faster all coming at you. You take it as it is… Run the marathon, this isn’t a sprint kinda deal. No wonder 10th planet named itself that. Always pushing to keep learning. Truly appreciate 10p Pasadena and the bushido it encompasses.
This place changed my life. The level of jiu jitsu you get here is so high.
This is hands down one of the best places to learn jiu jitsu. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and they always go above and beyond to help their students grow. I highly recommend 10th Planet Pasadena!
Training here has been an extremely rewarding experience. I'm very lucky to have some of the best coaches in the game. Try the free class, you won't regret it, I promise!
Insane attention to detail. High quality instruction from high quality instructors. Nice and accepting team mates. No ego what so ever here, also one hell of a workout! I couldn’t recommend 10th planet Pasadena enough. For a small monthly fee you are receiving seminar quality instruction.
I joined as a complete beginner to martial arts and when starting anything new, there is an adjustment period but it's been a great learning experience so far. I like the idea that this is a new school where class sizes are smaller and more attention can be given to each student and that's what you'll get at 10th Planet Pasadena. The two head instructors are different yet both very effective teachers. Professor Cruz keeps class light-hearted and fun while being very focused on teaching all the latest 10th Planet System techniques. Professor Ramey focuses on the often misunderstood leg-lock techniques and makes sure you know the small details. The senior students and all the instructors and coaches here are very friendly and it feels like a family environment. I definitely don't regret joining. See you in class soon!
Great instruction, great partners, great training.
Eric and Eric are amazing teachers and coaches. They both still compete and are completely versed on the latest and most cutting edge techniques and their training is magic. They also focus on your conditioning so you will get an excellent workout as well. Pasadena is so fortunate to have this treasure of a jiu jitsu academy. Thank You Eric and Eric and 10th planet family :)
I’ve trained at a lot of places. This is by far one of the best places I’ve trained. The level of instruction here is of the highest caliber. From beginner to advanced - this is a place for everyone. No egos. Instructions are very academic based in a fun environment. Check it out for yourself and for free. You won’t regret it.
