I have been training for 5 years now and have been here for almost 2 years. I can say that there aren't many gyms out there that offer such advanced curriculum/ experienced staff while fostering a community as strong as this one. The staff and students take care of one another constantly and have better hygiene than most gyms care to consider. I always encourage my friends and family to come to open matts on Sundays!

If you’re looking for a top-tier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym in Orange County this place is unbeatable! Such a welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for practitioners of all levels. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned competitor, the coaching staff is incredibly at tailoring their instructions to help everyone grow and succeed. The instructors are not only highly skilled but also genuinely passionate about teaching. They break down techniques in a way thats easy to understand, emphasizing both fundamentals and advanced strategies. The attention to detail is next level, and they're always willing to help refine your game. The community here is another highlight. Its a supportive, ego-free environment where everyone helps each other improve. Training partners are respectful, skilled, and dedicated, making each class both challenging and enjoyable. If you're serious about leveling up your BJJ skills, getting in shape, or simply finding a great community to be a part of this gym is where it's at. The energy here is contagious, and you'll leave every class feeling stronger, sharper, and more confident. I couldn't recommend more!

I’ve been training there for almost two years now. Great place, great coaches, and super friendly and welcoming people. It has a great mix of prior wrestlers, mma, and beginners, Big and small, and male and female.
Several people compete, but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. Incredible gym, couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.

Great place to train! Started with their beginner program and kept going. No egos there, just a bunch of chill people learning self-defense and grappling.

Best jiu jitsu in OC. I have trained at various schools all over Southern California and this one is by far the best. The coaches are very technical and the vibe is really good. I mostly only attend the 6am class which is taught by Ryan Loria who is insanely knowledgeable and also really cares to make sure everyone is learning. I have done a couple classes under Matt and Abner who are both also incredible.
I think the thing that makes this place special is it's a very casual vibe and not militant like some old school studios. Also, the amount of knowledge getting taught is substantial. You will not get bored here and the coaches are always going out and learning what are the new techniques and strategies and bringing them back to the school.
Lastly, everyone I've rolled with here is really good and respectful. There aren't any douchebags or bullies and the other students really act like teammates to help you get better.

I’m 47 years old and started training here two years ago and never wrestled, never grappled, etc before in my life. Coaches Matt, Abner, Mike, and the upper belts have all taken their time and energy to try and turn me into a legit grappler. I played multiple sports in college and have been on many teams. The people here are real teammates and always have your back. The coaches are solely interested in developing the students and creating an environment that is remarkably supportive and demanding at the same time. Train here, you won’t regret it.

We joined this club recently and have already grown to love this place. It has a pleasant and friendly atmosphere, as well as super professional coaches, who inspire kids with their energy and skills. Moreover, the club is equipped with specially designed mats that are not laid on concrete floors, as in many other clubs, but on spring-mounted wooden boards, which provide cushioning during falls. I highly recommend this place.

This review is coming from a person who’s dedicated the last 28 years to learning and teaching martial arts.
What sets this gym apart from the others that I’ve either trained in or coached for, is their combination of the following:
1. Their coaches possess unique abilities in presenting/instructing in ways that are easy to learn from and can quickly apply in practice.
2. There is structure in learning through a curriculum that is set weekly or monthly and is posted for members to review.
3. The coaching staff is not only made up of great coaches but are also great people outside of the gym.
4. I genuinely feel like they care for their students development and health. They’ll make an effort to get to know your strengths and weaknesses for purposes of elevating your game.
5. The coaches are not above training with anyone. They never act too good to train with those that are beneath their own skill level.
5. You won’t ever get the feeling that you’re just a dollar sign to them or just another membership sold.
6. THE MEMBERS! As important as the coaches are the member of the gym that you share the mat with. The members here are cool as h*LL! You will meet high quality people who are conscientious of their partners abilities and the potential risks for injuries.

We knew this place was for our family the second we walked in. It felt like family. The instructors are very knowledgeable and have worked with my son for the last couple years, building his confidence, discipline, and jiu jitsu skills. I recommend 10th Planet MV to anyone considering jiu jitsu for their family.

No better gym in my opinion. The coaches are a wealth of information and the gym is clean, safe (as Jiu Jitsu can be), and the people who train here are awesome. Highly recommended.

My wife and I started training jiu-jitsu about 18+ months ago and chose 10th Planet Mission Viejo as our start. We can honestly say had we not started at 10th Planet Mission Viejo we may not have continued to train. The style of teaching and passion for fundamentals made the gym incredible welcoming for new comers with no experience. This gym offered for us the perfect blend of high quality instruction and intensity while still being an incredibly family oriented and welcoming place. There is emphasis placed on safety and taking care of your training partners above all else. The instruction is a very good blend of high level sport grappling, self defense, and overall focus on mobility and longevity. The jiu jitsu coaches, Head Coach Matt and Coach Abner are very approachable and are always willing to listen and answer any questions with decades of experience between them. Highly recommend if you are on the fence about training, starting your journey here allows you to experience jiu-jitsu in a way that fits your lifestyle the best for you and your family.

It’s been a while since I’ve been a part of such a welcoming gym. Before even meeting Coach Matt in person, he had made sure that other females my size and experience level would be there for my first class and was great at communicating with me - something I haven’t experienced before in a trial class! Having tried a few gyms in the area, I decided to commit to 10pmv because of the camaraderie (an amazing group of killa ladies 💪) and top tier instruction especially in the realm of nogi, wrestling, and takedown training! So stoked to be part of this family!

Small but very welcoming gym.
Matt and his team of coaches are friendly and knowledgeable.
I like the blend of techniques - going over standing wrestling and judo techniques for example that are often neglected at other gyms I've been to.
I also appreciate the level of general atmosphere that is cultivated. There are competitors in the gym and you can go hard, but nobody takes themselves too seriously. It's a good balance.

I've been training at [10th Planet Mission Viejo Jiu-Jitsu consistently for about 3 years and I absolutely love it here!
The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and they make learning Jiu Jitsu fun and challenging. Specifically, the coaches are intentional with every lesson plan and endeavor to have each technique build on the previous lesson(s).
The atmosphere at the studio is very welcoming and supportive, and I always feel comfortable asking questions and drilling with other students. Stated differently, this school attracts like-minded people. No ego. We are all here to learn and have fun. We are family.
Finally, I will comment on the importance the coaches place on cleanliness and hygiene. If you have ever trained Jiu-Jitsu or wrestling, you know the importance of a sanitized dojo.
I highly recommend Matt Salinas' 10th Planet Mission Viejo to anyone looking to learn Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, judo or Muay Thai.

As a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu, I recently had the opportunity to train at 10th Planet Mission Viejo. I must say, I was very impressed with the facility and the quality of instruction.
The gym was well-equipped, with clean/new mats and some workout equipment. It was very clean and well-maintained. The instructors were knowledgeable and approachable, making each class both educational and enjoyable. Shout out to Matt and Keir
The variety of classes offered cater to practitioners of all skill levels, from white belts to black belts. The training atmosphere was positive and supportive, with a strong sense of community among the students.
Overall, I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a top-notch Jiu Jitsu training experience. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner looking for new challenges, or a beginner looking to start your journey in the art, this gym provides an excellent environment for growth and development.

I’ve trained at a couple of other places, and learned well enough, but here I get a step by step break down of how to do a move, and a thorough explanation why we do it a certain way. Matt is an amazing coach, and fosters a super friendly and inviting atmosphere for all levels. There are no big egos flying around here and everyone is super friendly. My wife starting coming here and is doing Thai boxing with coach Chris, and she’s just added BJJ and loves it. Even one of my girls has starting coming to class. With zero previous training for either of them, they are excelling under Coach Matt, and Coach Chris (Thai boxing instructor). We make the drive from the IE to Mission Viejo just for the unparalleled instruction.

These guys are LEGIT. Highly knowledgeable instructors without egos. Very welcoming environment. Unlike a traditional jiu jitsu gym, they have a variety of martial arts to offer: jiu jitsu, boxing , kickboxing , muay thai, wrestling and judo. A one-stop shop for all of your fitness and martial arts training.

My 9 and 6 year old daughters started going here since the opening. I am so glad my husband did a ton of research and found 10th Planet and Matt! I love the variety like wrestling, Gi and no Gi JJ, Muay Thai and Judo. Matt is very professional and the coaches are top notch! They pay close attention to each person making sure they are learning everything properly and not forming bad habits. I would most definitely recommend this studio for adults and children.

Matt is an excellent teacher. He ensures that the techniques are presented in a way that they can be easily remembered and he builds off of them in a series. He also fosters a great environment where the team is supportive of each other. The facility is the best with springboard mats!

This is where you need to be training. Even before Day 1 it was. I reached out to Coach Matt on IG and let him know what my goals were (grappling/striking skills) and he laid out what they have and let me check a class out. As a beginner with zero wrestling, combat or martial arts experience it was intimidating but everyone is so nice and understanding. It's been four months and I have learned so much from the coaches and my peers.
At the recommendation of a friend, 10th Planet is going to give you the latest techniques that work in the real world, not just tournaments or during practice. If you are looking for self defense training - this is where you need to be. 80% of fights end up on the ground right?
Matt and all the coaches at 10PMV are awesome, as are all the members so if you are new and not sure, come in and try a month or two of fundamentals. If you are experienced and have been training GI or at Gracie - drop into Open Mat at least.

We have the Fuji Spring Floor Mat System under our entire matspace. Gymnastic level safety to go full send on. We have Budo Matt, who is an extra special coach, you'll see after meeting him. We have a team of gangsters ready to show the OC where it's at, and it's the south side 🦅⚡

Can not recommend enough!!
I began my jiujitsu journey 12 months ago with 0 experience.
Coach Matt and his team have made me feel comfortable, welcome and at ease about my
complete lack of knowledge and experience.
All of the 10th planet MV team have gone out of their way to help me learn the fundamentals and to make sure I’m trying to do the right things.
As a person who is new to the area I am truly grateful to have found this Jiu Jitsu community!

Coach Matt got me started on my Jiu Jitsu journey and I can honestly say my life changed for the better the day I first walked into 10th planet. Not only is Matt a great Jiu Jitsu instructor, but he is generous with his mobility knowledge that will help you protect your body throughout the journey.
In addition to the knowledge Matt brings about Jiu Jitsu and mobility, he is very patient and brings a calming presence to his classes that instills a sense of tranquility to an otherwise chaotic environment.

Can’t say enough good things about 10PMV or head coach Matt Salinas! To say coaching is his gift would be an understatement. He doesn’t just teach random moves every day. He sequences his classes so each lesson builds off of the previous one in a logical, intuitive flow. You actually train to RETAIN info. Matt also specifies situational implications of approaches (Sport BJJ vs Street Self Defense).
My progression in BJJ has undoubtedly been fastest with Matt as my coach. On top of that, he’s a humble and very kind hearted dude! He treats his students like family, and is passionately invested in their success! Come join 10PMV, you won’t look back!

The owner Matt is one of the best Jiu Jitsu coaches I have ever trained with. He is incredibly gifted at the teaching the fundamentals and getting you to the next level through mastering them. He also coaches classes with great energy and passion, and it’s contagious. You definitely want to train here.

Not sure there’s a better coach out there than Matt. For years, he put out free tutorial videos just to share his love and passion for bjj with others. He’s not only developed and molded young athletes to reach their highest potential, but, in my opinion, even more importantly, he’s instilled principles that will ultimately make them better individuals in all facets of life.

The detail and patience that Matt put into teaching me basic fundamentals in just one year have allowed me to be able to keep up with upper belts. I feel very comfortable putting my self into sticky situations because I know I have strong fundamentals. Trying new and unfamiliar moves are no problem because I know my fundamentals will get me out of that sticky situation thanks to Matt.
