101 Academy Jiu Jitsu

  • Love, Love, Love Academy 101! I’ve only had amazing experiences here. Met a few members and instructors in Edmonton at various jiu-jitsu events and competitions. Came to my first open mat there last Saturday. Got to roll with CJ the owner and he was so awesome and kind. All my rolls were amazing, people are very chill. Great vibes, going back today. Highly recommend!

  • Only been here 2 weeks for my 3 daughters, and it already feels like a big family. My husband and I can't wait to join them on the mat! We are convinced. So grateful Professor CJ recognizes how important it is to promote strong physical and mental wellness as a family unit!

  • I’ve been training under Professor CJ for almost a decade now and not only is he a phenomenal BJJ instructor, but a true role model. He has built a beautiful gym and created a team that feels like family through his leadership and passion for jiu jitsu and continues to be someone I will forever look up to. I have yet to train at another gym as welcoming and skillful as 101 as the many black belts that teach there are a wealth of knowledge and are truly passionate about this sport and community. I have immense love for this place and all of the people in it that continue to enrich my life!

  • Beginners: I started doing jiu jitsu a little over a year ago. I started at another gym in Calgary, spent 2 months there, and they were GREAT. I travel for work and got sent to the US for a while, joining gyms here and there to keep learning. When I returned to Calgary for a month 101’s schedule and vibe drew me in. Walking into a new gym isn’t easy but I’ve now been in 10 different gyms and I’ve found that most of the jiu jitsu community is incredibly warm and welcoming, with CJ and his instructors and students being no exception. 101 is the 8th of 10 gyms I’ve been in and I just recently returned to them for a couple of weeks until I’m away again… take this from someone that is new-ish and has been in all manner of gyms: 101 Academy is one of my favourite places and it’s because of the culture and vibe and great instruction. It’s not super formal and stuffy like some places, yet they’re still respectful of tradition. The coaches are awesome, the students from white belt on are just super, and I’m sad that I have to leave again. Thank you, CJ and crew. I appreciate you. Oss.
