Was in town for work and everyone there was very welcoming! Great instruction, facility and very family friendly. If I lived in Walla Walla I would definitely be going there!
Incredible gym! Clayton has created a family friendly environment at a great facility. Everyone was very welcoming and the instructional and rolls at the end of class were awesome. Very clean and well respected gym. This is Walla Walla’s BJJ gym to be at!
Had a drop in class here while visiting for a wedding. Would highly recommend training here. All partners were respectful, and great at correcting without being rude. They also included judo and wrestling which are incredibly helpful for takedowns / competition prep.
When I come to Walla Walla, a gi is essential for my packing list so I can hit this mat. Friendly, clean, and always a great roll. The Professor is welcoming and kind, very skilled and excellent breakdown of instruction. I appreciate the attention to take downs in every class. Already looking forward to my next drop in.
100 Kilos Jiu Jitsu Academy is a wonderfully run academy. The knowledgeable and friendly owner always provides you with a smile inviting us to come on in and learn. This academy is a safe and clean environment which I’m pleased to be part of. I’d give them 10 ⭐️ if possible. Thank you Clay for how you teach and the knowledge you provide.
Clay is a great teacher. I enjoy the gym and level of training I get. I would highly recommend.
My son has been training with these fine folks for 2 1/2 years. He has developed wonderful interpersonal relationships with the leaders and many of the students. I esteem them all. I am thankful that they have a reviewed membership so that everyone there feels comfortable confident and safe. That was very important to me when I sent my young son. ❤️💪🏻

Great gym. The owner Clayton has helped mentor and set examples for my son both on and off the mat. Can't say enough good things about this gym and it's Professor.
I went in for a free class a few months back and I must say… what an incredible experience. The staff are amazing people who are willing to patiently teach newcomers the skills and knowledge to learn jiu jitsu. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go back to as soon as I’d like, but when I do I’m excited for what’s to come!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Great gym, people and atmosphere! Top notch training for all ages!
Awesome gym. Very welcoming atmosphere for anyone from a first day student to an experienced competitor. The coaches tailor the experience to what you are looking to get out of it from exercise and fitness all the way up to high level competition. The owner and head coach has many years of experience and it shows. He takes time to make sure everyone understands the techniques being taught and will go out of his way to give personal attention if you’re struggling. He also pushes a “no meatheads and no ego” vibe in the gym so you don’t have to worry about training partners who are dangerous to drill or roll with. I can’t recommend highly enough. And as a bonus the gym is always spotless and clean, it’s clear that attention to detail is very important here!

Excellent way to get in shape and learn valuable self defense skills. Professor Clayton and all of the coaches are top notch.
I've had the great fortune of being able to get a few private lessons with Professor Clayton Mclain, it's amazing to me how much I learn everytime, it's changed my game immensely. It's like learning to write and finally being able to form and understand a sentence. I can honestly tell you that if you want to really step up your skills in BJJ get yourself some private lessons in! Many thanks to Connection Rio BJJ Walla Walla for all the wisdom I've gained on our mats.
Great family environment with top notch instruction. Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Great self defense and jiu jitsu. Hands down the best in the area.
I had been kicking around the idea of starting Jiu Jitsu for a couple years, but never pulled the trigger. After an introductory class I could see that the training was top-notch, and the people in the gym were very friendly. 7-1/2 months later I'm on the mats 4-5 times a week wishing (like everyone else) that I had started sooner!
Love Connection Rio, all the instructors are extremely helpful and patient. Everyone is very welcoming to new members, non intimidating environment and very clean. Affordable and great flexibility with classes in the mornings and evenings.
Wonderful community to be a part of! A great training facility and coaches!
I highly recommend this place. It’s a great place to learn real self defense and get in shape. It has a friendly and welcoming environment. The professor is great at teaching his classes.
Training at Connection Rio has helped me mentally and physically. Along with Dennis’s world class instruction, everyone at CRA is very supportive and will push you to be better on and off the mats. I’m very thankful for this gym
The professionalism and quality of instruction is exceptional. We are so fortunate to have Dennis Asche, 3rd Degree Gordo Jiu-Jitsu Black, in this community. Dennis and his wife Josarah really care about the community. It is like one big family who supports and takes care of each other. As a yoga instructor who has done extensive training, I really understand the difference/level of training from different offerings. I always research who I will be learning from before I start. If you read about Dennis Asche, you will quickly see the high caliber of training you will receive. Paired with the welcoming warmth of the jui-jitsu community he has created, you won't be disappointed!
World class place to train and learn! Professor Dennis Asche is one of the top notch people you could learn from and the coaches are very knowledgeable also (they’ve been tested)! I think testing for new belts like Professor Dennis Asche does is a huge benefit for his students in different ways! Connection Rio Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the best place you can go in this area to get the best training, and there is a great group of people waiting to learn with you!
A great BJJ academy and more. Excellent instruction and coaching. An incredible group to train with.
To put it simply, one would be hard pressed to find a place with a better coach or better people. Much can be said about Professor Dennis but let me say this; he is a good many with a passionate heart for what he does. His desire to see his students accel, learn, compete, and grow in confidence has cultivated students who approach Jiu-Jitsu with the same mentality making training here a warm and accepting experience; for any who come with a desire to grow. So come on in get some exercise, have a laugh and maybe choke some people.
From the moment I walked in I felt like I instantly belonged. The people and coaches at CRJJB are the most supportive and helpful people I've ever met. They accommodate your physical barriers as well as push you to be a better person always working towards a goal of a better life, not just physically but also mentally! Highly recommend taking that first step forward with Connection Rio
Connection Rio is an Incredible experience! I'm extremely thankful to have the world class experience of Professor Asche available in Walla Walla. The CRA community is very friendly and welcoming. Jiu-jitsu has really helped improve my mental and physical health. I owe a big thanks to Professor Asche and the coaches at Connection Rio for pushing and inspiring me to improve every day!
Have been training here for almost three years. We are all incredibly fortunate to able to have access to world class Jiujitsu and self defense instruction in our small town. I had never done anything martial arts related in my whole life. Before training with connection Rio. The instructors are patient and kind and the results are incredibly worth while. It has become the part of my week I look forward to the most. My daughter and wife and brother and his wife have subsequently joined the academy. If your goals are self defense, excercise, community, or developing personal discipline. This is the place to train!! Also some of the best competition coaching available in the world for both children and adults!
We love Connection Rio. My whole family attends, literally my husband, daughter, myself, sister in law and brother in law, my niece and nephew. All the coaches continue to encourage us and make Connection Rio a place of community and friendship. As a mother who lives in the mountains with my two kiddos, Connection Rio helps boost my confident and empower me, plus I get a killer workout each time. Denis and Josarah, owners and professors, take time to guide their students and provide us with the skills to be successful, both in the gym and in life. Our other coaches David, Ryan, and Jairis are incredible and supportive. I am very grateful to be part of this team.
The instruction and atmosphere makes this an incredible place to learn BJJ. Among the high quality instruction and care that is put into all the techniques. The ability to learn a demanding martial art such as Jiu Jitsu with a humble group turns training partners into a family. This is a place where everyone helps each other learn and grow as the ultimate goal which provides the perfect place to learn this great martial art.
The most important thing for me was finding a gym that was inclusive and equal with being a female in this sport and they uphold that with a welcoming and safe environment for any and everyone to feel comfortable training at. Excellent leadership and guidance from the professor and coaches.
Wonderful place to train your mind, body, and spirit! Great culture and learning atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Great classes for all levels of experience in jiu jitsu and self defense. I love training with the other women of this gym in the adult classes, and my kids have grown in their skills and confidence in the classes for kids. The various classes include Brazilian jiu jitsu for all levels, jiu jitsu fundamentals, combative jiu jitsu, wrestling, self defense and striking, and open mat time. Excellent professor and coaches, who are invested in the students understanding the techniques and improving their jiu jitsu for both defending an attacker on the street and competing in the sport. All sorts of people training there, who are very welcoming.
World class Jiu Jitsu instruction and training under an internationally respected Professor right here in the Walla Walla area! The Academy is nice, clean, and has plenty of mat space and wall pads. The staff is professional, friendly and supportive. There are lots of different class times to accommodate people's busy schedules. Whether you're looking for a fun way to get some exercise, wanting to learn some practical self-defense or looking to really develop your Jiu Jitsu game, this is the place to train! Great for all ages and all fitness levels!
World class level instruction led by Dennis Asche. Whether you are a brand new beginner, intermediate, advanced, a child, or adult this is a great gym to train at. Coaches are patient as well as motivating to help you achieve your goals. Very welcoming and friendly training partners. Morning and evening classes available to best fit your schedule.
Unprofessional in letting citizens participate. Judging folks for having loved ones in prison and not letting them attend class..
I attended a free trial lesson at 100 Kilos earlier this week, and although I had a great experience that day and came home feeling happier than I had in a very long time, I got a call a couple days later from the academy owner telling me that I was not welcome to be a student at their school because a prison employee who has been a student there for many years showed the academy owner documents from the WA State Penitentiary documenting that I had been a visitor at the prison in the past and told the academy owner he didn't feel comfortable with me being a fellow student at the academy. (This is similar to a hospital employee violating HIPAA standards by revealing patient records to a private business owner, as it violates prison employee training and policies on confidentiality.) I am no longer a visitor at the prison (the last time I visited was over 16 months ago), and I have no criminal record of any kind myself (visiting someone who is incarcerated does not mean a visitor is themselves a dangerous or bad person in any way). Moreover, there is nothing in Washington State law or prison policy that forbids a person who has visited a WA State prison from being a customer at local businesses where prison staff are also customers. It is also highly unlikely that I as a smaller female would ever be directly paired with this large, tall, male correctional officer in a class setting. It is my understanding that in jiu jitsu, the philosophy is to practice humility and respect of others while on the mat, and to base treatment of each other on what happens on the mat, rather than on individual life histories. I feel the academy owner and lead instructor had a chance to teach his prison employee student what that means in this situation, yet he instead chose to discriminate against, humiliate, and discourage a new student. For that reason, I must give 100 Kilos a one-star review. Having a nice, pretty academy is not enough. The philosophy at the core of the martial art must also be demonstrated in every aspect of how the academy operates.
