We love the karate program and all of the instructors. Boden has gained so much confidence and enjoys learning new skills. 5 stars!! ⭐️
Posted 1 year agoMy son has been going to Olathe's Best Summer Camp for the past couple of summers and will be going again this summer. He absolutely loves it. It's active, it's interactive and you learn some martial arts as well. His previous camp was mired in arts & crafts, reading and movies. Olathe's Best keeps the kids active and engaged in all kinds of things including very fun field trips and outings. The Coaches and Instructors are awesome. They truly value each child and their attention to safety is impeccable. I could not rate them higher than 5 stars or I would give them 10 easy.
Posted 1 year agoI can’t say enough good things about Total Martial Art Training Center! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and supported by both the instructors and fellow students. The classes are well-structured, challenging, and engaging, catering to all skill levels. The instructors are not only highly skilled but also incredibly patient and encouraging. I’ve noticed significant improvements in my strength, flexibility, and confidence since I started training here. The community atmosphere is amazing, and everyone genuinely wants to help each other grow and succeed. Whether you’re looking to learn self-defense, improve your fitness, or just find a new passion, I highly recommend this school . It’s been a fantastic experience!
Posted 1 year agoI have been here more than a couple of times the place is magnificently CLEAN and put together like the professionals they are! I would recommend this martial arts paradise to anyone who lives there or is passing through and needs a place to train or work out. The instructor's are very informed and passionate about their martial arts.
I have been attending Total Martial arts for almost three years now. The way that the instructors treat their students, makes you feel as if you are part of their family. They go above and beyond the call of duty to make their students feel comfortable, respected, safe, and appreciated. When their former Gracie Jiu jitsu instructor just up and quit they worked very hard to find an even better, more competent Brazil jiu jitsu instructor’s including Gabriel with whom I train with who is very skilled, kind, highly enthusiastic, and competes at the international level to come and teach. I couldn’t be happier with the level of skills of the instructors and how they take the time to make sure you understand the techniques and that you are performing them safely. I have gained so much confidence knowing that what they are teaching me I can use in real life if I would ever have to defend myself. I have seen the head instructors Travis and Rich not only teach their students martial arts but the important life skills such as respect, compassion, and kindness that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. All of these instructors are such amazing Male role models and have the kind of character that any parent would be proud to have their children be around. I am so proud to be a part of the Jeff Speakman Total Martial Arts family and I would highly encourage anyone who is interested in martial arts to please come and train with this amazing group of individual's.
This school is great. My daughter has done so well here. The instructors are all wonderful at keeping young students focused while still providing a positive and fun atmosphere. Going here has been so good for her and the improvement she has made is great to see.
My son and I have been training with the instructors for 8 years now, and I can't say enough about how they have positively impacted both my son and me. The instructors are incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and patient. They have created an environment where both beginners and experienced martial artists can thrive. What stands out the most is their commitment to individual growth and development. Over the years, we've seen our skills improve, but more importantly, we've gained confidence, discipline, and a deeper understanding of martial arts. The instructors take the time to work with each student personally, ensuring that we always feel challenged but not overwhelmed. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, and the sense of community is unmatched. It's not just about learning martial arts; it's about becoming part of a family. We’ve made lasting friendships here, and it’s a great place for people of all ages and abilities. I highly recommend Total Martial Arts Center to anyone looking for high-quality instruction, a friendly environment, and a place to grow in martial arts. It’s been an amazing journey for both my son and me!
My two kids and i have been going to Total Martial Arts almost 2 years now. I did a lot of research when deciding on where I wanted to take my kids and I to train. I wanted my kids to know how defend themselves the best way possible in todays environment which includes more ground fighting, since the introduction of MMA. I found out that there was a place in Olathe that taught Jeff Speakman's Kenpo 5.0. This system was created to be able to defend yourself standing or fighting on the ground. I was very happy with the training that we were being given and they've improved since then by offering Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have always been interested in martial arts having previously trained in Eugue Ryu Karate briefly and extensively in Kuk Sool Won.. I love having the ability to train in Kenpo and Jiu-Jitsu at the same location without costing me an arm and a leg! The cost of my family and I training is very reasonable compared to other places in the area. as well. The instructors are able to show discipline and focus in a loving manner to my kids. I have noticed the self confidence improvement in my kids since starting. A lot of martial arts schools focus only on kids training with very little room for adults. The adult training is great! It is kept separate from the kids and done in a way that is both enjoyable and challenging. I recommend any family who is interested in martial arts or just staying in shape, to join Total Martial Arts! I especially recommend any adult out there who is considering martial arts to give Total Martial Arts Center a try, you won't be disappointed!
I'm not a member at TMAC but have helped with a couple events. Many members have told me good things about the owners and instructors. If interested in getting into martial arts definitely stop and talk to them!
We could not be more happy with TMAC! The instructors are great with the kids and the atmosphere is so welcoming. Our son has learned so much from TMAC (respect, hardwork, and dedication). It has been so fun watching him grow in his abilities. He gets excited about classes so he can learn more. Thank you TMAC!!
This is a great program. It started as a convenient after school program for nights when I was working too late to pick up my son from school. He has really grown to love it. It has been a blessing.
My son has been going to Total Martial arts for 2.5 years and have been very impressed with all the coaches hard work and dedication to not just the karate skills but developing their work ethic and social skills. They work hard to make sure the kids stay safe while working on sparring.
If I could give more stars I would. My kiddo has been attending Total Martial Arts program for 3 years now and impact of the program and the coach’s, have provided for my daughter the tools, confidence, and mentors for a lifetime.
Yes, this review is from the parents of one of the owners, so it may be a little biased, but that does not mean it is not accurate. It has been our pleasure to watch our son and his family and best friend form a martial arts academy that truly has created a safe, secure, comfortable family environment with a constant undercurrent of encouragement, creativity, and respect for all participants. The academy offers outstanding programs at a reasonable, competitive price. The Speakman franchise has given it even more to offer and underscored the commitment to excellence and a safe atmosphere. The new instructors for groundwork are an amazing addition and continue to promote a positive environment. Their dedication to keeping the building secure and clean is impressive, but we are even more impressed with the hard work and devotion to the nurturing of all the students and staff and their commitment to maintaining a healthy, family oriented and supportive comfortable home away from home. The academy and school truly help develop students into responsible, well socialized, contributing members of society. It is a wonderful place to entrust your family's future development. It has been our honor to see the quality of the academy's programs and focus on safety and community. We are VERY PROUD!
My son has attended the school two years now and LOVES IT! He is extremely hyper and tends not to stick with sports so we were not sure how long he would last. He loves it and we do not see him stopping anytime soon. It has helped with his focus, respect and confidence. He also adores the jujitsu curriculum. Highly recommend.
My son has been going to Total Martial Arts Center for 5 years, he started in the evening classes and then moved to after school and summer programs. ALL of the coaches have been amazing towards my son and myself. They give my son the tools that he needs to succeed in Kenpo 5.0 and outside of the center.
My family abruptly moved to Olathe in March 2023, and with that was the mad scramble to find a place to put our kids in before/after school and summer daycare. We had called several different places and got the same response you would expect in March of the school year, “I’m sorry we’re full, and our summer camp is also full. Try calling us back in the fall or we can put you on a waiting list.” We did a google search, and we found Total Martial Arts Center. They were able to get us in, and at the time we were relieved that we at least had a place for the rest of the school year and the summer. We could find something different in the fall if we needed to. From the moment we walked in the door we’ve been treated with kindness and respect, and have felt the strong sense of community they foster. We stopped looking for other places to move our kids and started putting them into more classes. At this point, the school is a 2nd home to my children. They spend most of their days after school here, taking evening classes, and spend their summer days here. If I didn’t completely trust them, my kids wouldn’t spend that much time here. They have helped to enforce values that I myself try to instill in my children such as: respecting those that care for them and provide for them, honoring their commitments, having courage to face challenges both big and small, understanding that their word is their bond, that life is tough and not everything is fair, we all make mistakes but true character isn’t how we wish we reacted in the moment but how we did react, and the ability to differentiate between right and wrong from an objective point of view. We are looking forward to another 3-4 years with my girls in their after school program, and hoping that they stick with martial arts at the school for longer than that.
Our girls have been attending Total Martial Arts for almost two years now. They are a part of the after school program and also attend evening classes. I can't begin to explain the impact that the instructors here have had on our girls. They have grown so much in the time they have been attending and love going. The instructors teach the kids with the perfect mix of love and discipline. The respect that the kids have for the instructors and vice versa is easy to see when you watch a class. It has been such an enjoyable experience getting to know the other families at the school, the instructors, and growing with such an amazing and supportive community!
I try to drop-in every time that I am in town. Great people, good atmosphere, and even better instruction!
We drove out from another gym for the Royce Gracie seminar not realizing it had been postponed. Instead of turning us away coach Kilbey offered my son to stay for an open mat and also train with none other then Chiefs Legend Tamba Hali. Everyone there treated us like we were part of their Gym and made us feel welcomed. If you are near the Olathe Area looking for a great Jiu Jitsu/Martial arts school, look no further then here. Thanks for a great night!
Martial arts at its best! The instructors are excellent with all the kids and know each child learns differently. They are truly motivating inside and out of the dojo. So glad we found them for our 9 year old!
My sons have been a part of the summer camp and after school program. The coaches all really care about the students. Everyone has a great time while learning martial arts. It is so much more than any other program available in the area.
Fantastic place to learn self-defense. Stand up, grappling and on the ground. Kenpo 5.0 teaches multiple disciplines and teaches discipline from kids to adults.
My son and I have been attending around 2 years now. It has been a great experience for both of us. My son is meeting new kids his age, learning a new skill, and is being physically active (which is so important now with everything virtual). I am doing the adult class myself and I also am learning to push my knowledge and boundaries to new experiences. I would recommend for the young, not so young, and all activity levels.
We love the passion the instructors have! I’ve told all my friends about this place. Highly recommend!
My brother was molded into a great young man by the instructors that run this facility. For six years, they dedicated numerous hours teaching him and perfecting his skills. It is now my turn to learn from these gentlemen. In the first few months, my confidence had increased and my desire to learn has made me hungrier than I expected. Mr.Bradbury and Mr.Clouser are amazing teachers. Not only teaching movements, but the purpose behind each moment and even the history behind it. They really observe how each person learns and uses that to teach in the most effective way. I am excited to continue building on the foundation they are instilling in me.
My autistic 6 year old son has been taking classes here since fall 2024. We thought this might be a good outlet for him to learn some important life skills. He can be a little rambunctious and tends to move around a lot. We were reassured that they have experience with kids on the autism spectrum. He started camp last week and was immediately ejected indefinitely days later for kicking another student. We were told there is a zero tolerance policy when it comes to that kind of stuff, which we can understand. When my Mom (our son's grandma) picked him up this week she was made to feel like we and her were not doing everything we could to get him to eat better, in regard to the food we chose to send with our son to camp. Autistic children often are very picky when it comes to food and eating in unfamiliar environments. Getting him to eat anything has, at times, been a struggle, but we always make sure he's fed before AND after he goes to school, daycare, or camp. When the owner, Travis, was speaking to my wife about our son not being allowed back, he asked if he had an official diagnosis. This was disclosed before we even started classes or camp. We explained that he was diagnosed at 2, and we were quickly able to get him into Early Autism Intervention therapy as well as occupational therapy through our school district. The fact that he somehow doesn't know or doesn't remember he's been told our son has been diagnosed with autism shows how little he or anyone else there cared about our child's history, and how little their desire to help him thrive was with how often their discipline strategy was to exclude him. My wife feels like they've been looking for an excuse to eject him because of how he struggles in some areas. They treated us like we were a burden and like we shouldn't be there. Don't bother filling out the "about your child" section of the application. My wife wrote an entire separate page explaining a lot of this and about our son. They won't bothering reading it, or invest any time getting to know your child, but will comment on how sweet it was of you to write something. I would give it ZERO stars if I could. They only ever saw us as weekly and monthly checks $$$. RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!!
Posted 1 year agoDo NOT JOIN!!! I joined this gym in October of 2024, it took me a while to meet the owner for details about the membership service. When I finally met Travis the owner he never looked me in my eye while talking to a potential new customer to his gym, he seemed focused on something else rather then our business conversation. After going there for some time Travis used personal information of mine in a group text to get my attention, and never once try to get a hold of me before that. It was embarrassing and uncalled for, never apologize for it was just very smug about it. This gym is not worth it in my experience. I would NOT recommend based on my experience.
I could leave a review that speaks to the embarrassing and childish business practices that TMAC carries out like every other negative review here does. However, in doing so I know they will reply and spin the story to make it seem like they are a respectable establishment. Instead, I want to give a honest review on the service of Martial Arts they provide. Martial Arts above all else should give a person the ability to defend themselves in a physical altercation. Unfortunately, their Kenpo program does not provide that. I helped with a tournament preparation class during my time there as an olive branch of good faith. All of their instructors striking skills were abysmal and laughable. In my opinion they should not be allowed to teach anyone anything about striking. Second, Martial Arts is all about being physically capable. Being “Martial Artists” the staff should be in somewhat good physical condition. The instructors should inspire and lead by example. Having an entire teaching staff that is overweight and un athletic is a mockery of real Martial Arts and a spit in the face to any of their students who are trying Martial Arts out with a goal of getting into shape. Lastly, Martial Arts is supposed to teach people good qualities to preserve and uphold through the rest of their life. I find it funny that none of the instructors at TMAC possess…any…not even one of these qualities. They have proven to a large number of people that they are disrespectful, abrasive, jealous, petty, and difficult to deal with. Let’s recap shall we? They are a “Martial Arts” institute that quite literally cannot teach you to defend yourself, promote unhealthy lifestyles, and has an emotionally underdeveloped staff. Save yourself before joining or signing your child up at this laughing stock and go learn from an actual reputable gym.
I learned my lesson and will read every contract I sign more carefully now. I have never actually taken a Kenpo class from TMA in Olathe, but I did take a very beneficial class from a jiu-jitsu instructor that used to share building space with TMA in Olathe. Once, when my instructor was out of town, I was told by the owner(? - He never once introduced himself to me) to discuss membership. Assuming Mr. Travis Bradbury and Instructor Kilbey were business partners, I had no problem signing a contract for jiu-jitsu classes from Instructor Kilbey. Little did I know that the owner/operator of TMA was acting out of greed and haste. Based on my experiences, Mr. Bradbury has zero customer retention skills, and questionable business practices. Yes, I grew frustrated to learn that the contract included a 60-day cancellation period... After all, my instructor broke free from the TMA location - so I went with him. I’ve never once taken any Kenpo class with TMA, regardless of what Mr. Bradbury may claim. I kept my part of the membership agreement (although I believe I could’ve “fought” it, and stopped payment on the contract), and I paid for 2 months to cover the 60-day cancellation period. It was worth the payment, because I learned important lessons in reading contracts carefully (the contract I signed didn’t include any valid jiu-jitsu instruction), and I learned to honestly and gracefully navigate the ugly emails from Mr. Bradbury that resulted in my desire to cancel my contract. For what it’s worth, I also successfully avoided over-paying for a gi, despite high pressure from Bradbury to purchase one that same day. I assume that people with kids that pay for the great Kenpo instructors there will see the true colors of the school's ownership when it comes time to end their contract.
I was a previous student of the former BJJ instructor. When the instructor began teaching at TMAC, we (current students of the previous instructor) were forced to join TMAC or else we would no longer be able to train. In December TMAC without advance notice, announced the separation of the instructor. I informed Travis I would be ending my membership. Travis argued we need to give two months notice prior the quitting and has continued to charge me without authorization. I was forced to join so I could train in a very specific and specialized program and when they stopped offering the program without notice he continues to charge. It is my opinion he is doing this maliciously to “get back” at the former instructor. It is also my opinion weather this practice is legal or not, he is being unethical and is not doing this because it’s the right thing to do. He’s angry and just wants the money. I’m glad me and my child are no longer affiliated. I do not believe the owner practice the values they claim to teach to their students.
0/5 stars. I’ve been thinking about quitting this place for several months now and was only going here for the jiu jitsu program but they finally forced the head instructor to up and quit. The owner, Travis, is 100% the reason why I will never go back here. He is very controlling and can never be wrong without getting upset with people. Google seems to be not letting me post my true feelings about this guy so just know there are significantly worse things I wish to say.
