Cochabamba Jiu Jitsu is an excellent place for kids to learn real self-defense and situational awareness. Coach Brian Guevara (Owner) brings deep experience and a clear, focused teaching style that earns kids’ respect while helping them grow in confidence and discipline. The environment is structured, supportive, and genuinely welcoming. A place where kids can build practical skills and feel part of a positive community. Highly recommended for parents looking for something beyond just sport-based martial arts. Caters to 4-14 year old child. Exceptions and evaluations are made for 3+.

Coach Brian, Coach Sid, and Coach Asher are exceptional grapplers who actively compete at the highest levels. They train out of Standard Jiu Jitsu and have done an outstanding job applying the ecological approach to their children's program. The school emphasizes a constraints-based methodology that prioritizes live resistance and learning through games. Rather than relying on traditional static drilling, students are encouraged to develop skills through problem-solving in dynamic, realistic scenarios. My 5-year-old son has been training at Cochabamba BJJ for over a year, and in that time, I’ve witnessed incredible transformations—not only in him but in countless other children. Many kids come in timid, emotionally fragile, or lacking physical confidence, and over time, they develop into resilient, self-assured young athletes. This isn’t a place for simple games like sharks and minnows or dodgeball. The focus here is on real skill development—how to defend oneself, fight with heart, and overcome adversity. Coach Brian’s philosophy is clear: children are here to learn how to face challenges head-on, both on and off the mats. I’ve seen students dealing with bullying, low self-esteem, and attachment issues grow stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally. They develop confidence, learn to manage stress, and improve their problem-solving abilities. The gym itself is built with families in mind. There’s a space for kids to socialize and unwind with arcade games after class, a designated room for parents who need to work on laptops, and additional mat space for open training or free play. The community is incredibly welcoming, and the atmosphere is both supportive and motivating. If you’re looking for a gym that truly focuses on effective grappling, real development, and building strong character in children, Cochabamba BJJ is the place to be.

I would recommend to any parent to bring their child to Cochabamba Jiu Jitsu. My son started, took a break and later returned. The head coach and owner Brian Guevara puts forth energy, focus and dedication into teaching the children and running the program. I like that the focus is on learning skills, self defense, discipline but that it is also a community and anti-bullying environment. The children learn to become resilient, exemplify respect and become healthier individuals.

Our boys (3.5 and 7) are LOVING the Jiu Jitsu class here! Brian is especially good with the youngest kids in class. I love the way he builds leadership and confidence in the older students by using them to help the younger ones.
