Coach Brian, Coach Sid, and Coach Asher are exceptional grapplers who actively compete at the highest levels. They train out of Standard Jiu Jitsu and have done an outstanding job applying the ecological approach to their children's program. The school emphasizes a constraints-based methodology that prioritizes live resistance and learning through games. Rather than relying on traditional static drilling, students are encouraged to develop skills through problem-solving in dynamic, realistic scenarios. My 5-year-old son has been training at Cochabamba BJJ for over a year, and in that time, I’ve witnessed incredible transformations—not only in him but in countless other children. Many kids come in timid, emotionally fragile, or lacking physical confidence, and over time, they develop into resilient, self-assured young athletes. This isn’t a place for simple games like sharks and minnows or dodgeball. The focus here is on real skill development—how to defend oneself, fight with heart, and overcome adversity. Coach Brian’s philosophy is clear: children are here to learn how to face challenges head-on, both on and off the mats. I’ve seen students dealing with bullying, low self-esteem, and attachment issues grow stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally. They develop confidence, learn to manage stress, and improve their problem-solving abilities. The gym itself is built with families in mind. There’s a space for kids to socialize and unwind with arcade games after class, a designated room for parents who need to work on laptops, and additional mat space for open training or free play. The community is incredibly welcoming, and the atmosphere is both supportive and motivating. If you’re looking for a gym that truly focuses on effective grappling, real development, and building strong character in children, Cochabamba BJJ is the place to be.
Posted 1 year agoCochabamba Jiu Jitsu is an excellent place for kids to learn real self-defense and situational awareness. Coach Brian Guevara (Owner) brings deep experience and a clear, focused teaching style that earns kids’ respect while helping them grow in confidence and discipline. The environment is structured, supportive, and genuinely welcoming. A place where kids can build practical skills and feel part of a positive community. Highly recommended for parents looking for something beyond just sport-based martial arts. Caters to 4-14 year old child. Exceptions and evaluations are made for 3+.
Posted 1 year agoI would recommend to any parent to bring their child to Cochabamba Jiu Jitsu. My son started, took a break and later returned. The head coach and owner Brian Guevara puts forth energy, focus and dedication into teaching the children and running the program. I like that the focus is on learning skills, self defense, discipline but that it is also a community and anti-bullying environment. The children learn to become resilient, exemplify respect and become healthier individuals.
Posted 1 year agoMy 4yo son has been attending Cochabamba Jiu Jitsu school for six Months. Since enrolling, my son has shown remarkable growth—not just in physical skills, but in his overall character. His resilience has noticeably increased; he’s learned how to face challenges with determination and not give up easily. -Thank You Coach Brian!!
Posted 1 year agoOur boys (3.5 and 7) are LOVING the Jiu Jitsu class here! Brian is especially good with the youngest kids in class. I love the way he builds leadership and confidence in the older students by using them to help the younger ones.
Posted 1 year agoWe wanted our daughter to develop self-confidence and learn how to defend herself so we decided to enroll her in a martial art. We initially enrolled our 5 year old in a gym near our house but decided to switch her to Cochabamba in February because we heard about Coach Brian from families also doing Jiu Jitsu. Our switch was well worth our extra driving time. Our daughter looks forward to her BJJ classes every week so much so we’ve used at as a reward for listening. The classes challenge her both physically and mentally. She’s slowly developing the mental stamina to handle losses in addition to wins. Now our son is old enough we’re enrolling him in the class too. Coach Brian and all the instructors are very passionate about the sport and about teaching the kids the skills required for grappling. Every class I attend I see them patiently teach kids of different ability levels the foundation of grappling. It’s quite fun to watch each child get challenged and overcome those challenges. In my opinion, the method Coach Brian uses to teach the kids is extremely effective. I see my daughter’s grasp of the movements and her self confidence spike after each teaching game win. He breaks down complex movements into bite sized games for the kids to master. In addition to teaching kids, Cochabamba also has kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu classes for ladies. Initially, I hesitated to sign up because I have always been intimidated by extremely fit athletes. After finally giving the ladies kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu class a try, I signed up immediately. It was comforting to know that all the ladies had different body types and were all training to improve their skills. I enjoyed the physical activity and the challenges offered by kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu. Ladies looking for both a mental and physical work out should definitely join Cochabamba. It’s an investment in yourself. I highly recommend Cochabamba to all parents as a fun and challenging experience for their kids. Coach Brian is great! Any parent looking to instill in their child (young or old) the self-confidence, grit, and ability to defend themselves. I encourage ladies of all ages to come and challenge themselves to try something new. You never know what a fun sport it is without trying. Best of all, I love the family atmosphere Cochabamba.
If you want your child to learn real self defense I highly recommend Cochabamba BJJ + MMA. It’s not your typical kicks karate. Your child will face adversity and challenge but I promise you, your child will know how to defend themselves in a real life situation. My son has grown so much there. He’s met challenge and has overcome them. Yet I know his journey is just beginning, and that is the best part.
I’m grateful that Brian utilizes his time to help the youth because he’s also competing in adcc and he’s extremely knowledgeable and has a natural talent for coaching. My son has been training wrestling and jiu jitsu with him for less than a year and I’m seeing massive improvements already. It’s a high pace environment and the kids in there are very talented. Brian doesn’t waste time in there. There’s no time wasted doing stretches, shrimping, etc. He’s all about the situation rolls and this is the absolute best way to train… his academy is creating monsters, if you are looking to enroll your kid in a program and take it very seriously, look no further, Brian is your guy. He pushes these kids really hard, and he gives it all every practice. There’s no other kids academy like this one.
Cochabamba Ju Jitsu MMA has my strongest recommendation as a great recreational exercise and personal development tool for both kids and young adults. Coach Brian and his team have been phenomenal at transforming my hyper, inattentive 4 yr old into a more disciplined, focused boy to follow instructions and group activities. Their patience and teaching tactics emulate effective, parental methods for directing a young child’s energy towards their intended outcomes. I cannot express enough my gratitude for their dedicated, 1-on-1 work with him to transform him into a better little person. I also utilize their services for my own MMA fighting classes. Coach Brian give me the same excellent support and intense training within a fun community environment while hanging with other moms and young women. We always have so much fun and a great workout. I cannot recommend them enough!
I've never tried kickboxing or jiu jitsu. It's something I've wanted to learn for years as a self defense tactic. A friend had me sit in on his jiu jitsu classes with Brian to watch how it is and from that point on the desire to try it myself only grew. So when the opportunity presented itself to come in for a free first class, I jumped on it. On my first day, I was a bit nervous but Brian greeted me with a smile and everyone was extremely welcoming. The camaraderie among women at Cochabamba is fun and friendly, making it easy to connect and learn together. Brian’s teaching style combines technical precision with enough space to try different methods ourselves. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, he tailors his instruction to meet your needs. Cochabamba is all about empowering women and Brian encourages us to push our limits, both physically and mentally. However, he's not the biggest fan of answering questions so make SURE you pay attention the first time. :) He emphasizes self-defense techniques, situational awareness, and building confidence. As a woman, I appreciate that focus—it’s not just about getting a workout in but also about feeling strong and capable in everyday life. In summary, Cochabamba with Brian is more than a gym—it’s a community, a sanctuary, and a place where women thrive. If you’re considering joining, take that first step. You won’t regret it.
I wanted to get in better shape and learn something new, so I tried this place on a whim. While they are more geared toward teaching kids, they also offer personal training for adults. Both Brian and Danielle are great coaches that clearly know what they are doing. Each session is an incredible workout and I leave absolutely exhausted, but feeling great. It’s always a blast too- each session has been different and I have enjoyed the mix of practicing combos I already learned with new stuff each time. Can’t wait to continue and will be signing my kids up too!
Cochabamba Jiu Jitsu and MMA is the best place to learn self-defense. Coach Brian teaches you the necessary tools to step out into the real world feeling confident and strong. Whether it is you or your child wanting to learn martial arts, Coach Brian teaches it with passion and patience. He simplifies the necessary steps to defend or attack. If you are a woman looking to start a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, or if you are looking to step out of your comfort zone, this is the best option! In MOM/WOMEN MMA and kickboxing classes, expect to stretch, sweat, and become stronger because Coach Brian and Coach Danielle will push you to be better at every class. I had no idea what MMA was before I started, but I'm glad I joined and now, I'm obsessed! I am excited to improve and maybe even compete in the future. This is my happy place and I highly recommend it to everyone!
I can’t speak highly enough about my private sessions experience with Cochabamba MMA!! They helped me get a lot better with techniques, get strong, work on my core and build endurance! Coach Brian and Danielle are extremely patient and work hard to help you find and achieve your combat goals!
I have had my child attending this school for about 6 months now & I have to say that the experience has been unparalleled. As a first time parent I was super nervous getting my daughter involved in any form of martial art’s. I couldn’t be happier with choosing this school, coach Brian is a current high level competitor & has an amazing understanding of the sport. He brings real world intensity to a controlled & safe environment for my child to learn and excel ! I recommend him 1 million times over and if you are nervous as a parent, The kids have an absolute blast in this environment! That alone will reassure your decision instantly.
We love coming to Cochabamba! My 3 year old is a part of the kickboxing class and she has shown so much growth in her skills and confidence over the past few months. Coach Danielle tailors the workouts to her developmental level and makes it accessible and fun for her. Cochabamba is hands down the highlight of our week. Can’t recommend Coach Brian & Danielle enough!
Un buen lugar para qué los niños aprendan disiplina y puedas ser mejores en el deporte, es divertido. Mi hijo se diviete mucho, los entrenadores son muy pasientes y amables. Ayudan a todos los niños
In the last six months my kids have been going to a place called Cochabamba (Jiu Jitsu, MMA) Their coach Brian and his helpers Sid and Danielle they do a amazing job at teaching my kids and other kids as well. Brian is super passionate and patient with the kids and you can tell he wants the best for everyone. My kids have definitely learned and developed ever since they started to go there, they have gained a lot of confidence I highly recommend Brian for a coach and trainer!
Great Jiu Jitsu studio!! Teaches the principles of self defense while making it fun for kids at the same time. Brian is a competent, passionate and experienced BJJ instructor and takes the time to meet each kid where they’re at. Highly recommend!
If you’re looking for the best, this is it. Cochabamba offers Jiu Jitsu that is second to none. My kids have trained at several gyms in the area, Cochabamba is miles ahead of the competition. Coach Brian is absolutely great with the kids, building confidence and focus. The workout that the children get during class is top notch, not a moment of time is wasted. I go out of my way to tell people about this place and Coach Brian. Once your child comes, they’ll be hooked.
Brian (head coach) and Sid (assistant coach) are not only renowned competitors but are also phenomenal educators when it comes to the science of the gentle art. Ontop of that, both are exceptionally versed at connecting and building a trusted bond with their students. Highly recommend for both novice and experienced kid grapplers.
My son started training at Cochabamba about 6 weeks ago and we couldn’t be happier with our decision to switch there from another BJJ school. We have a relative that trains with Coach Brian and he had highly recommended the no-gi style BJJ school for many reasons. Not only does Coach Brian pour his heart 1000% into the students, he customizes his approach to each child to make sure they are learning effectively and efficiently. My son adjusted and felt at ease with the other students. Coach Brian creates a welcoming environment and culture that both the parents and students are friendly. We have to drive almost twice as far and I have never been happier to do so because this has been more than worth it! Coach Brian’s school is fast-growing as it has moved to a larger space and he has a wonderful assistant coach. The style that Coach Brian and his assistants teach prepare the students for tournaments and competitions. We can’t wait to see how my son’s BJJ skills will continue to improve and evolve as he is prepared for tournaments. It is difficult to transition into BJJ tournaments without the proper coaching and support. Many parents love staying and watching the kids during classes and Coach Brian has many seating spaces for them in the new location - he has been extremely thoughtful and loves that the parents are engaged. The only regret I have is that we didn’t come to Coachabamba sooner. Thank you so much Coach Brian!!
Coach Brian is fantastic with kids. Has great patience. Instills discipline. And unlike karate or other “similar” disciplines, he teaches the kids real skills they can use to stay safe. Plus, he’s just a stand-up guy. I have a 6 year old boy and 4 year old girl in his classes and they both love it. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.
If you’re looking for a great teacher, amazing lessons, and overall 10/10 experience come to Cochabamba!! I’ve taken my son to different gyms around but didn’t really like the teaching style. Brian on the other hand AMAZING. He’s a natural with children even if they’re on the younger side (as a parent you know how those 4 year olds can be). It’s clear that he has a passion for teaching and spreading his knowledge. I appreciate it even more knowing that he’s an active athlete who’s continuously competing and learning more. I love how personalized each lesson is and how he caters to each child’s need. It’s been a couple months but training with Brian has greatly improved my son’s self confidence, strength and overall health. If you’re looking for a high quality martial arts gym this is 100% the way to go!
Coach Brian is an amazing Instructor that is very passionate about teaching children MMA. We have two boys, ages 6 & 8, that have been under Coach Brian’s instruction for the last 5 months. In this time, our boys have gained a lot more confidence, strength and discipline, which shows in their daily schooling and other athletic activities - Bullying is no longer a concern for us. Our boys started competing in grappling tournaments after 3 months in, and fared very well against other kids with 1+ years experience. What you get with Cochabamba MMA is a smaller class size with more individualized 1-on-1 attention from Coach Brian. This allows the student to learn and perfect moves at a faster rate. We are very happy with the progress that our boys have made thus far. We will soon enroll our 4 year old daughter so that she can also learn these essential self defense skills.
We recommend Brian, he is an amazing coach. He is willing to go out his way for his kids. We have tried other places before but none of them give you the same personalized results. We have seen significant changes in our son in a short amount of time. David’s self-esteem has increased tremendously. Brian inspires confidence, innovation, and action in all his kids. We are so great full that David is getting the opportunity to be taught by Brian. I read that when it comes to finding a good coach they must possess the following characteristics. A good coach is positive, enthusiastic, supportive, trusting, focused, goal-oriented, knowledgeable, observant, respectful, patient and a clear communicator. Brian is all that and more.
My 7 year old has been at Cochabamba for 6 months and I can’t recommend it enough. We started with the intention of getting him out of his shell and becoming more confident. Both of those things have happened and he is also becoming stronger, both mentally and physically. He’s also more prepared to defend himself or others if needed. The classes are very immersive and the students start learning techniques and submissions on day 1. It’s has been so rewarding to see our son get out of his comfort zone and try something totally new. As for coach Brian- he is amazing. His coaching style is very direct and hands-on. He pushes his students, but is also incredibly compassionate. The kids listen to him and respect him in a way that I haven’t seen with other coaches. He is a great role model for his students and my son looks up to him. I’m so happy that we found him and I can’t recommend his classes enough
Brian has been amazing to work with my 5 year old son. My 5 year old has done a variety of activities: soccer, karate, tee ball, swimming and by far he has gotten the most out of his classes here. When he began he was very shy, reserved and hesitant. Brian took the time to really get him out of his shell and I can tell there’s a lot of thought put in the coaching and the physical development of the kids here is taken seriously. Brian takes his time to ensure all the kids get individual attention that’s tailored to what they may need. When my son started could barely throw a jab or do a jumping jack and now he’s throwing combos with the other kids, the change was drastic and I give full credit to the coaching here.
We've been really pleased with Cochabamba MMA and BJJ. Our son and our daughter have been going for about 2 months and have made tremendous progress in their skills, not to mention their focus and discipline. Coach Brian's teaching style is very engaging and hands on. He is encouraging and offers a lot of positive feedback, which has helped build our kids' confidence and their desire to keep learning. The location is perfect for us and the prices are very reasonable. We couldn't be happier!
My son loves taking ju ji tsu and Muay Thai at Cochabamba. Coach Brian does an amazing job with the kids. He’s supportive, respectful and motivates them to work hard. They’re learning discipline, getting stronger and having lots of fun. There’s also a really nice sense of community with all the other families. You won’t find a better martial arts studio than this!
I’ve been taking my two boys (ages 6 and 7) to Cochabamba MMA, and they love it! Coach Brian is simply the best! He effectively teaches them how to defend themselves, should a bullying situation at school ever arise. I have a peace of mind knowing that my kids will now be able to confidently stick up for themselves. I wholeheartedly recommend Cochabamba MMA to any parent who wants their child to learn the invaluable life lessons of discipline and self defense.
I would recommend this gym to absolutely anyone! Whether you have experience or like me, don’t know the first thing about MMA. I was very nervous before the first class, but the energy Brian has is contagious. Brian has a distinct gift for teaching - He is quick to show examples and even quicker to make adjustments to moves that feel unfamiliar. He takes you through step by step and is so uplifting, I have felt so much growth in my confidence since starting. I’ve never met an instructor with so much passion for what they’re teaching and I never thought I’d like it the way I do but Cochabamba gave me a safe space to learn, and I really believe more people need this resource!
I am extremely happy that my son is attending COCHABAMBA JIU-JITSU + MMA SCHOOL, My son learned so much technics of self defence, respect, self confidence. Coach Brian is amazing with kids, very professional, responsive, innovative, kind and extremely passionate providing their students with the best experience and tools. I highly recommend this school if you are looking for jiu-jitsu / MMA classes.
My wife and I are very thankful to have found Cochabamba Mixed Martial arts (MMA: Jiu Jitsu & Muay Thai). After visiting multiple top rated dojo’s within the Montgomery County area, I found Cochabamba MMA to be the ideal place to have my kids begin thier martial arts journey. Having been raised a martial artist, I knew that I wanted my kids to not only learn self defense, but also develop responsibility and build courage through his martial arts journey. Initially only wanting to emphasize in Muay Thai (our son was experiencing bullying in school) our child slowly transitioned into Jiu Jitsu as well learning how to defend himself both standing and on the ground. I am proud to say that after only having trained literally a couple of months (yes 2 months), our son competed in his 1st competition and placed 3rd for his division! One of the things that truly separates Cochabamba MMA is coach Brian. Coach Brian trains his students for real life situations but also at a competitive level (which most dojo’s lack in). Having visited multiple establishments, they either had one or the other- never both. Brian practices what he preaches; Brian is an ACTIVE nation wide competitor (and almost always places 1st) using the very same techniques he teaches his students. Having the ferocity of a beast and at the same time patience and kindness of a monk, Brian truly is truly the very best at his craft. All in all, we were pleasantly suprised and feel truly blessed to have found Brian and proud to say our son is now competing for his next competition!
My daughter is learning both Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai here, and it has been great. Brian is great with kids and helps to push them hard enough to reach their goals while still being encouraging and respectful to them. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in martial arts.
I'm so grateful we found Cochabamba BJJ & MMA. It has made a huge difference in my daughter's life. We initially got her started because she was getting bullied at school, and Brian accepted kindergarteners. Her teacher Brian is a miracle worker. In one month she learned so much and was able to confidently defend herself. Brian knows how to explain concepts well to her level, and gave her the right balance between easing into it and also giving some tough love when she needed to be pushed out of her comfort zone. After 6 months my daughter has grown physically and also learned how to be more assertive. She can now wrestle boys bigger than her and take them to ground. Not gonna lie, learning was sometimes rough and she cried, but even then Brian helped her learn how to breathe and focus during a fight. Brian really cares about the kids he teaches, and even remembers their birthdays. Highly recommend, and you can't beat the price!
My son started going to Cochabamba earlier this year because he was getting picked on at school. I wanted to start these classes to help him with self defense if needed but coming to the classes have helped him with more than just training/ self defense. His confidence and discipline have improved so much. He has gained stamina, strength, and pays more attention to detail. We consider everyone at Cochabamba as a family, and I love that Brian has a passion for teaching! I highly recommend!
I have been with Cochabamba jujitsu/MMA for about two years now. It was of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. Learning martial arts in this gym takes it to a whole different level. You get to experience the one on one training that most gyms don’t get to offer and everyone is welcoming. Brian is an excellent coach/trainer and I would recommend anyone to the gym if they really want to change your lives within martial arts.
The classes are great whether you’re looking to learn self defense or start a new hobby. You learn something new or reach a new goal within each class. Coach Brian is very detail oriented. He breaks down movements explaining not only how to execute them but why they work. For those who are looking to compete, the BJJ program also encourages students to take on championship opportunities and provides enforced training for individuals who choose to do so. Overall this is a great gym with a great sense of community and inclusivity to all.
