I had the privilege of visiting Athens, Greece in January 2024 for 2 weeks and was lucky to find this gym near the hotel I was staying at. I didn't contact the gym prior to showing up for a morning class but from the moment I walked in Coach David and all the students were very welcoming and friendly. As soon as he saw me Coach David introduced himself and invited me to jump on the mat. From that first day to my last day it was a pleasure being able to train at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Athens. Coach David taught every class and the instruction was superb, the training partners were tough, there was great sparring, and there were both morning and evening classes Monday-Friday making it easy to find time to train. For any visitors from the United States or any English speaking country everyone here speaks great English and Coach David gives instructions in both English and Greek. The gym is located on the top floor of the building its in and has both male and female locker rooms equipped with showers that have warm water. There is also plenty of mat space, especially in the mornings where the classes have less people. I wholeheartedly recommend this gym to anyone looking to train while they're in Athens. I couldn't have asked for a better experience, if I lived in Athens this would without a doubt be my home gym. I'm looking forward to my next visit the next time I'm in Greece and to Coach David and everyone I trained with thank you for welcoming me to the gym.
Posted a year agoIncredible gym. You will be lucky to have professor David as your coach and mentor! As another black belt and school owner, I visited this academy on vacation. The gym is clean, has great facilities like showers and locker rooms. The thing that stood out to me was the culture of the gym, every student was respectful and trained in a safe way. This means high quality leadership at the top. Me and my partner both got great rolls and had a great time. Professor David is also an accomplished and active competitor. This is going to give you a complete and up to date education in the sport because competitors have to continue to evolve through out their career. Thank you professor 🙏 ossssss
Posted 8 months agoTraining with David at Alliance BJJ was one of the highlights of my entire trip to Greece. He and his students were welcoming and friendly, the training was tough and technical. The academy was clean, well-ventilated (big plus on hot sunny days) and had showers (also big plus!). David is that extremely rare breed of instructor who can teach beginners the classic, foundational techniques of the art as well as the more recently evolved modern game for those who wish to compete. I learned a lot from just one training session! If you are thinking of joining a school you will be hard pressed to find better quality of instruction. If you are ever in Athens I highly recommend stopping by to train, I hope to do so again myself one day.
Posted 5 months agoI was in Athens, Greece on a work trip from the UK. I was looking for somewhere to keep up my training. After a quick hunt on google I found Alliance Athens and reached out to David to see if I could attend a class. Firstly let me say I am not overly tech savvy but Alliance Athens has a great website that was very informative. Everything you need to know is here from timetable to location and information on the instructors etc. When I arrived I could immediately tell that this was a well equipped, clean and modern academy. It has toilets, showers and a changing room. The class I attended had around 20+ students and every single student greeted me with respect and a warm welcome. It has a very positive vibe about it. Everyone wants to help you reach your goals and potential here. One look at the website is enough to tell you that David is clearly a very accomplished professional, having won medals around the world. In actually attending his class what was also clear is that he has a true passion for Jiu Jitsu, this is reflected in his teaching style. If you are worried you won’t understand the class, don’t be! David taught the class in Greek and English, he assisted all students with technique throughout. At the end of the class he even took time to chat with me and offer advice on my future training for an upcoming competition. Overall both David and his regular students were amazing. If you are travelling in Athens and want somewhere to train I cannot recommend a class with David at Alliance Athens highly enough I had a fantastic time and I hope to return soon.
Posted a year agoI was traveling through Europe for a few weeks and left my rash guard with a friend in Berlin because I didn’t think I would have time to train on my one day in Athens. Turns out I did get a few free hours and was craving it enough to swing by Alliance Jiu Jitsu Athens with plans to just WATCH a no gi class and get some mental reps. I’m not sure if this saying translates globally, but in the U.S. there’s popular expression that when someone is so kind and accommodating, "they would give you the shirt off their back.” Coach David Said took this quite literally, giving me his own rash guard and shorts so I could join the class. The students were so friendly and welcoming; even before I was introduced as a visitor, almost each of them, individually, came up and introduced themselves to me during stretching. And during the open mat at the end of class, a black belt named Manolis went out of his way to pair me up other students so I wouldn’t be in the sometimes awkward position of being a visitor asking locals for rolls. The curriculum was top-notch and I learned some cool variations on passes and some mount attacks that I look forward to using more. The facilities were pristine. And the atmosphere and culture is off the charts. If you’re a local looking to try Jiu Jitsu for the first time you won’t find a more welcoming environment with worldclass talent and curriculum. If you’re an established grappler looking for a new home, I can’t recommend them enough. If you’re traveling through Athens and looking to scratch that itch, check their schedule on their website and plan to stop in (my advice is always send a courtesy heads-up message via their email or Instagram DM). Regardless, give them a "follow" on Instagram at @AllianceAthens Thanks Coach David and team! I hope to visit again someday, or catch any members of your school somewhere down the line!
