Instituto de Artes Marciales IAM
IAM is an academy with high-level professionals, excellent atmosphere, and great facility conditions. Anyone who gets to know IAM certainly feels the warm welcome - both instructors/masters and students are amazing people. They have a well-structured program for people who are new to BJJ, with classes for different levels, and covering both self-defense and sportive/competition BJJ. They offer classes in three shifts every day of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays. Hope to see you there!
Posted 1 year agoI train here from time to time when in Madrid, the teachers are always friendly, knowledgeable and the classes fun and challenging. Despite not speaking much Spanish we always manage to communicate and I always feel welcome. Gracias Davi y Enrique!
Posted 2 years agoIt's like my home, the teachers are very respectfully and with many years of competition and teaching on their backs. The students usually are very advanced but there are also many beginners due to that you can train either hard or light in order to improve your specific skills. Respect, hierarchy, sacrifice, improvement and of course self defense are the premises of the school
Posted 2 years agoI am an American Expat living in Madrid since 2008. I have been training at IAM Instituto de Artes Marciales since 2010. The school offers a very clean and orderly place to train. The instructors are top notch and are very experienced. They cover both the self-defense side and the competition side of jiu jitsu with high enthusiasm for both. There is a lot of camaraderie among the students, which makes for a very comfortable training atmosphere. If that wasn't enough, IAM offers the possibility to train every day of the week, day and night! Probably, the most important aspect forme, and the main reason that I continue to train here is that it is a very family-oriented academy. My 5 year-old son and 7 year-old daughter have been playing in the IAM lobby and on it's tatami since before they could barely walk. This place is more than just a school, it is an important part of my family.
Posted 5 years agoThe change of location for the better, in addition to the fact that it is more available nearby, it feels more welcoming. Although I can't go as I would like because it takes me a bit far from where I live, I am taking private classes with Javier Elvira on Sundays, which is better for me due to schedules, and I have to say that it is super good and comfortable. When you have a mentor explaining the technique (first he does it with you as the uke, and then he acts as the uke for you to execute the technique) and correcting in situ the measures you execute, you learn a lot. The corrections, the details of effectiveness come first, that is, when it doesn't go well or you feel that something is missing that doesn't quite add up; then as it progresses, come the details of efficiency, that is, it makes you feel even more comfortable performing the technique and spending less energy. It is a good place to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, both in the sporting field and in its strong self-defense base. From the Helio Gracie family tree line, the only school in Spain.
